La Chimenea, a great Mexican Restaurant in Germantown Wisconsin
When this restaurant first came to town we wondered why Mexican in a German based community? Well, the answer we unofficially got was because we don't have a Mexican restaurant in Germantown, Ok, works for me.  Since then, my wife (Donna) and I have been to La Chimenea many times and tonight we decided to visit again.
We went at 6pm on Friday and although the restaurant was full, we were seated immediately. Immediately is a word I could use frequently as the service was quick, fast and accurate.  Upon seating, we … (4 comments)

germantown wisconsin: How to move your plants in the winter - 12/14/10 12:15 AM
We woke up to -5 degrees this morning and somewhere in the Metro Milwaukee area someone has plants that are getting ready to brave the outdoors and guess what,  they don't like winter weather.
Like any living thing, plants require special attention. It is best for the plants, if you can transport them in the car.  Here are some suggestions for moving your plants:

Preparing For The Move
Now that you've decided which plants will accompany you to your new home, take precautions to help them survive the trip.
Three weeks before moving day:

germantown wisconsin: High Speed Train derailed in Milwaukee - 12/13/10 02:09 AM

This was going to be the big economic boom Milwaukee was looking for to help the manufacturing sector by connecting Chicago, Milwaukee, Madison and eventually the Twin Cities with high speed rail.
The plan was to grab the $820 million dollars in Federal stimulous being offered for high speed rail to connect the dots to the afore mentioned cities and in return create 1000's of jobs - That was the plan anyways.
The reality, WE DON'T NEED HIGH SPEED RAIL SERVICE and Scott Walker (incoming Rep Govenor) knows it!  You can get to Madison from Milwaukee in less than 90 min, about … (3 comments)

germantown wisconsin: Thanksgiving dinner for 10 - 11/09/10 01:50 AM
The cost of Thanksgiving dinner
On the way to work this morning I heard the cost to feed 10 people for Thanksgiving this year is up slightly to around $43.  It always amazes me this time of year when I hear the "food report" and how affordable it is to feed so many especially when a cup of Starbucks itself cost $2 or a meal at McDonald's $6.
It will cost you more to pig out on big bird this year and they say it's because the bird will be more expensive as a result of more expensive feed. And the … (2 comments)

Diane Newbury of Fox Point has been assigned a project to do an in-depth study/behind the scenes of a local museum and she chose the Germantown Historical Society from the suggested list.
The end result of the assignment will be to write a paper and create a PowerPoint presentation covering what she learns through interviews and museum visits. This is a wonderful opportunity to gain more … (0 comments)

germantown wisconsin: Germantown Wisconsin, Do you know the begining? - 10/30/10 04:03 AM

Not many people know that today's modern Germantown orginally was but 2 square miles and today is the result of 7 seperate hamlets (towns) coming to gether in 1963/64 to fight off the expansion of Milwaukee county into Washington county.
The orginal 7 hamlets  were Dheinsville, Goldenthal, Germantown, Willow Creek, Meeker Hill, Rockfield and Kueburg. Started in 1842 and at the  time called the Wisconsin Territory. Wisconsin officially became a state of the Union in 1848.
The center of lower Washington county was originally to be Dheinsville but the rail roads effectively changed all that (as the rail roads came through Rockfield … (0 comments)

germantown wisconsin: Village saves for a rainy day by increasing reserves - 10/19/10 07:40 AM
Below is an article on how Germantown plans to balance it's budget. Personally, I think the administration in Germantown does a fantastic job year to year.  Although our taxes have risen somewhat in the 14 years we have lived here, it has been reasonable and we haven't seen a decrease overall in our services.
