norris dam state park: Beautiful fall colors on Norris Lake, Tennessee

Most every fall we take one of the annual color cruises on nearby Norris Lake. Operated and narrated by a ranger from Norris Dam State Park, these cruises take you places you can only access by boat.
Friends of Norris Dam State Park donated this pontoon boat for park use. This past Friday wasn't the best weather conditions for a trip on the lake. It was rainy, cold, and blustery; in other words a fairly typical fall day in east Tennessee. However the leaves were almost ready for viewing so off we went.

For the next two Saturday nights (July 12th & 19th) the Knoxville Observers Astronomy Club will be hosting a stargazing party at nearby Norris Dam State Park If you're never been to a stargazing pary I guarantee you it will be a delightful experience for all ages. Seeing the Milky Way Galaxy undimmed by city lights is a sight to behold; it looks like a huge river of light flowing across the night skies. And seeing the rings around the planet Saturn, the many moons of Jupiter, and just how red Mars actually appears close up will amaze and delight everyone. … (5 comments)
