Hawaii International Billfish Tournament begins its last day in just a few minutes, just watching 38 boats race for the best fishing grounds is something in itself, the hummmmm of all those deisel engines, all the wakes, looks like a flag, blowing in the wind. But its really about the fishing, HIBT was launched 2 days after Hawaii became a State, for those of you who dont know - it was 1959, ok history lesson over, lets talk about fishing - take a look at Day 3's video

No I'm not pulling your leg - I Woke up to a beautiful site this morning, Mauna Kea, on the Big Island of Hawaii, covered in snow! A lot of people don't realize that Mauna Kea is the Tallest mountain in the world, and it sits right next to the Largest mountain in the world - Mauna Loa. (don't confuse those with the highest - Mt Everest) Needles to say, we have our fair share of snow each year. We had quite a snow storm the other day, it looked like a winter wonderland up on Mauna Kea. Driving around Kona, I counted 4 different snowmen - NO - it didn't snow all the way down to Kona, but everybody loads up the trucks with snow, and then we head to the beach and build snow men. Obviously kona is at Sea level, but Mauna Kea goes up to the 13,795 foot level - lots of snow up there! A lot of people dont realize how BIG - the big island is - you can take all the other islands, combine them … (6 comments)

I just don't know why people don't believe we have snow in Hawaii, but we awoke to Mauna Kea covered in snow on Christmas morning. We usually try to get up there as soon as the snow hits, but not on Christmas Day. The roads were closed anyway due to icy conditions. Actually that was the excuse I used not to have to get cold yesterday :) I prefer to stay in my warm 80 degree climate down here at sea level, my house sits at about 120 foot elevation, and Mauna Kea sits at 13,796 foot elevation - talk about … (12 comments)
