February 2017 Housing Statistics show North Kona up 6.77% YTD, and 10% over last February, surpassing mainland numbers.
Aloha, Lance Owens (RS) here with LUVA Real Estate, and I have to be honest, the FHFA numbers state "1st Quarter" and we still have several days of reporting left? (typically sales take 2-4 days to get reported or I would have used 1st Quarter results also).

I just don't know why people don't believe we have snow in Hawaii, but we awoke to Mauna Kea covered in snow on Christmas morning. We usually try to get up there as soon as the snow hits, but not on Christmas Day. The roads were closed anyway due to icy conditions. Actually that was the excuse I used not to have to get cold yesterday :) I prefer to stay in my warm 80 degree climate down here at sea level, my house sits at about 120 foot elevation, and Mauna Kea sits at 13,796 foot elevation - talk about … (12 comments)

973 pounds !!! This is the second largest fish caught in the 49 year old tournament, amazingly it was the same team, back in 1986 that reeled in the largest - 1,062.5 pounds - what are the odds?
Kona is world famous for its fishing - mostly because of its Deep Blue waters, Aloha Spirit, Warm tropical weather, and the ability to pull in a fish of this size - 5 minutes out of the harbor. Island wide sales slowed 35% from June last year, with Kona showing a little more than 38% drop in sales.
Sitting down and talking with other agents, and gathering my information - I think a big part of this drop, is the closing of 2 major airlines serving the Big Island - Aloha & ATA. That made a huge impact that I think we are really just now feeling - why just now, when the airlines closed months ago. Just crunching some of the numbers and thought I would pass them on. So far in May we have 15 homes reported as sold, that puts us on track for 20 . Last year for May we finished off with 33, so we are off by almost 33%. But what I found interesting was the fact that we now have affordable homes in Hawaii - there are 8 homes for under $400,000. and of the 15 sales - 10 of them were for over $700,000 - 5 of those 10 - were for over $1,000,000 .
