sumter sc: Balls Out – HEY It Isn’t What You Think - 09/27/13 01:47 AM
Having worked so many years in manufacturing and other various jobs, I had heard many expressions like “balls out”.  I knew what the modern term was referring to.  Working hard and steady to get something accomplished.  Then one day I was watching “How Stuff Works” and there was a show about steam engines.
They were demonstrating how Watts had developed a more efficient engine and used a centrifuge governor to regulate speed.  The term “balls out” comes from the centrifuge governor.  The governor was typically two balls placed on opposing arm over a shaft.  Below the balls were weights on the shaft.  … (5 comments)

In November the number of units closed decrease from 111 in October 2009 to 77 in November 2009.  October 2009 had the largest number of units closed in Sumter County since August 2007!  Sumter County has been close to this number in the past two years, but has not reached this number.  This number is also very impressive due to October is normally a month of slower sales in prior years.  November did decrease to 77, but to put this in perspective in it is the fifth highest month for 2009.  November is … (2 comments)

Are Homes Selling in Sumter? Yes!!!!!! Part 8   This is the last of a series of posts about selling your home.    What does it take to sell your home in Sumter?  This is a question that I often hear.  I like any other agent have had some homes linger on the market to suddenly sell.  I have also had homes sell very quickly.  The properties that sell have several common threads among them...  You have probably heard this before if you have listed a home, watched the shows on tv or read on the internet, but here goes....   … (2 comments)

sumter sc: Air Force Retirement Ceremony, WOW - 06/08/08 10:34 AM
My husband and I were invited to attend a retirement ceremony for a special couple from the US Air Force.  It was a special invitation that we were surprised and thrilled to receive.  The couple has served our country for 24 years and 20 years and during that time, they have traveled much of the world and still manage to have a wonderful marriage and raise two great young adults.  Their oldest daughter graduated from Crestwood High School the same evening as the retirement!  Talk about a day filled with emotions!  It was a proud day for the entire family and they should indeed … (2 comments)

sumter sc: I hate Frogs..... - 05/13/08 01:55 PM
Ok, so I really don't hate frogs.  I hate killing frogs.  No, I don't kill frogs on purpose!  I live two doors down from the retention ponds for my development.  This time of year the tadpoles are becoming baby frogs and there are a gazillion of them.  It seems like that many anyway.
The problem is the frogs come out of the ponds and they are everywhere.  We had this problem the first year we lived here.  It was horrible because you couldn't move your car without killing a frog.  We didn't have the problem after we had some fish put … (29 comments)

sumter sc: Sumter, SC February 2008 Market Update - 03/11/08 08:26 AM
2008 is starting out in a traditional fashion for Sumter County Real Estate.  Traditionally we have seen a ramp up in our sales in January through the summer and then a slower sales rate in November and December.  There are many reasons for this.  My experience has shown that in the first quarter, I am working for many first time home buyers looking to use their income tax returns to purchase a home.  This is a great investment of that money and it provides many families the ability to purchase a home that otherwise might not be able to gather the … (0 comments)
