first time home buyer: More Information on the New 8,000 Tax Credit For First Time Home Buyers - 02/18/09 07:01 PM
The buzz this week has been the 8,000 tax credit for first time home buyers that does not need to be paid back.  We are still waiting to find out for sure if this can be claimed when you file in 2009, instead of 2010.  I am waiting to hear back from the president of our mortgage company as well as my own tax advisor.  I am told the software has not been updated yet at the tax offices.  Yet many are saying it can be done now.  I'd prefer to wait until we know for sure, than give someone the wrong information.

The government enacted a benefit to help you make your first home purchase. The incentive gives first time home buyers a federal income tax credit up to $7,500.   The tax credit is equal to 10% of the purchase price of the home up to $7,500. This is part of the "Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008″.  It is a temporary, federal tax credit to provide incentive for first-time home buyers to purchase a home. 
This tax credit is for first-time homebuyers who purchase a principal resident on or after April 8, 2008 and before July 1, 2009.
