Waukesha’s Friday Night Live Waukesha Friday Night Live began over a decade ago as Freeman Friday Night Live when citizens and downtown business owners gathered to discuss the fact that the city of Waukesha was abandoned and looked like a ghost town by 7 pm on Friday nights. Businesses were closed due to a lack of customers, and the only sound that filled the streets was wind and muffled music from local taverns. The Philharmonic ends its 65th anniversary season in grand style at the splendid Oconomowoc Arts Center. Opening the concert will be Shostakovich’s Festive Overture, chosen by the public during the 2011-2012 Audience Choice Poll. We’ll continue with two of the greatest masterpieces in the symphonic repertoire: Tchaikovsky’s captivating First Piano Concerto with the fiery young American pianist Andrew Armstrong and Gustav Holst’s grand orchestral suite, The Planets.
