Every area has local community events, news, real estate and blogging.  So far I am pretty new to it, but so far so good.

If you love homemade tamales mark your calendar for Dec 5 & 6th.  A parade at 10 am on Dec 5th  with marching bands, floats and the cheer of people kick starts this fun event.  With over 70 tamale vendors, there is sure to be a tamale for every ones taste.  Sweet, hot & spicy or just original style, they all are homemade and ready to eat.

la quinta: Just thinking about Thanksgiving travel - 11/15/09 08:48 AM

My Broker, Lori shares her plans for Thanksgiving!  Kathy

I have been listening to agents talk about their Thanksgiving plans for a few days.  Some are staying local as they have deals almost ready to close and getting away is not an option.  One is flying to Illinois for 4 days and one is going to Arizona.  As for me i am fortunate that my parents are coming into La Quinta to spend the holiday with me.  So I was just thinking about how far are people willing to travel for Turkey?  What are your plans?  How far are … (5 comments)

la quinta: Tweetdeck or Hoot Suite - 11/08/09 12:06 PM
I have tried both of these Twitter helpers... and I have found that Hoot Suite actually offers more.  It came later in the Tweet craze and has had time to learn from other formats.  With Hoot Suite you can actually track your tweets and find out how many clicks you are getting on any of your Twitter accts... and follow individual tweets.  This can be a terrific tool for letting us know which tweets are reaching our clients/friends.... plus you can even see the regional demographics on each tweet.  Are your tweets being followed in Brazil?  I wonder????

la quinta: FOX NFL Sunday Team Broadcasts Live from Afghanistan - 11/08/09 10:04 AM
I always watch Fox NFL Sunday--- and thought the show today was timely and TERRIFIC !!  Here from Mike Saunders--
I usually don't turn the on the TV on Sunday until later in the evening. However, today I did the unusual and decided to watch a little before lunch. After flipping through channels I settled on the FOX NFL Sunday pregame show and was very surprised to see team all in military fatigues.
I initially thought it was just in celebration of Veteran's Day this week, and, I was only slightly wrong. The FOX NFL Sunday team has spent the previous … (0 comments)

la quinta: Making utility boxes beautiful in La Quinta, California - 11/07/09 05:03 AM

Everyone knows what an eyesore utility boxes are, but they are necessay as we all need electricity so we live with them.  The city of La Quinta has decided to hire an artist named Julie Kirk to turn these boxes into a masterpiece.  Each utility box is in the process of being painted with the theme of La Quinta in mind.  Mountain scenes, desert scenes, wildflowers and more.  I happened to pass one on my way to work today and wow do they look nice.  No longer an eyesore, but something to gaze upon as art.  Once again, I am … (3 comments)

la quinta: The ActiveRain Nature Channel: The Jumping Cholla - 11/07/09 04:58 AM

Although many cactus species have thorns, they really aren't any more thorny or dangerous than the mighty rose, and many cactus (and succulents) have flowers to match the rose while requiring far less maintenance and care.
There are two cactus species that I, and many others, do consider flat-out dangerous. One of them is the Jumping Cholla (Cylindropuntia fulgida).
I used to have one of these in my garden, a little one about a foot tall, but after accidentally stepping into it one day and not being able to walk for two years, I decided that it was even too … (3 comments)

la quinta: Paying it Forward - 11/04/09 02:58 PM

An idea worth sharing--

As we see the changes in the economy, some good but mostly bad, we also see a number of our friends, colleagues and co-workers struggle to make it.  Those of us who are able to hang in there are very fortunate to be working.  But what are we doing to help our friends during these tough times.  Are we hording what we have in fear or are we trying to help the less fortunate?
A struggling friend once asked Benjamin Franklin for a loan.  Mr. Franklin agreed to the loan, but he wrote the following specification … (3 comments)

la quinta: Time keeps on ticking, ticking, ticking... into the future! - 10/31/09 03:20 PM

Time keeps on ticking, ticking, ticking... into the future!  Just a reminder... don't forget to set your clocks BACK one hour tonight (Sunday November 1st) at 2:00am local standard time.  And, don't forget to check the batteries in your smoke alarms!
DID YOU KNOW...
Benjamin Franklin first suggested Daylight Saving Time in 1784, but it was not until World War I, in 1916, when it was adopted by several counties in Europe that initially rejected the idea? Not all places in the U.S. observe daylight time?  Hawaii and most of Arizona do not use it, and Indiana first began using it in 2006.   Many other … (3 comments)

la quinta: Where we stand -Shakey ground or solid footing- Coachella Valley sees signs of both - 10/29/09 05:37 PM

Mountains may shelter the Coachella Valley from undesirable weather patterns that affect those beyond the desert, but could protect us from the economy. Despite its resort lifestyle, the desert has felt the pain of the past 18 months. However, vast resources also put the valley on the cutting edge of what economists think will be the way out of the recession. Since the recession started the housing prices have fallen further than they had risen. Retail sales shriveled as national chains closed and left and local shops too. All three major golf tournament revenues were down more than 20%. Convention and tourism … (0 comments)
