If you think you know real estate in Hawthorne CA from even just 10 years ago.....it's time to think again.
Real estate in  Hawthorne CA doesn't always evoke images of  luxury.  One of it's main selling points over the years centered solely on the fact that it's less expensive than other South Bay cities.....but there was definitely a reason for that lower price tag and it's taken a while for that to change.

Real estate in the South Bay is definitely not one uniform market. As we're on the coast, homes from one street to another can yield dramatically different prices.
Real estate in Hawthorne CA is a perfect example of how even within the borders of this smaller city, prices and neighborhoods can be dramatically different. For a long time when mentioning to buyers that they might want to consider "Hawthorne", it was often  received with a questionable (at best) look.
Hawthorne has not often been one of the more highly sought after areas of the South. That changed for a variety of reasons.

4/11/19 update - Oh if we had only known then what we know now.  Hollyglen and Del Aire prices have skyrocketed since we originally wrote this post.  Looking at the prices below back in 2013 when we wrote this there are no prices like this anymore.  Home prices now generally start in the $700,000s and quickly go up from there. hollyglen ca: Fusion South Bay Taking the Brunt of the Foreclosure Market - 08/20/12 07:22 AM
While much of the South Bay has been somewhat immune to the wave of foreclosures and short sales that have been so prevalent in much of Southern California, unfortunately the townhomes of Fusion South Bay haven't been so lucky.  Of the 6 homes that are on the market, or currently in escrow, 5 are either short sales or bank owned which is an unheard of ratio in the area. 
So why is Fusion impacted so much more than surrounding areas.  Unfortunately it's the perfect storm for foreclosures and is due to a number of factors.
