taxes: Question for everyone - Point of Sale Assesment - 06/12/09 05:36 AM
in 2007 in South Carolina real estate tax law was changed.  The new system is called "Point of Sale Assessment"  The difference between P.O.S. and the old way is that every few years the tax assessor would come around and estimate the value of the property and your taxes would go from there.  Now they use the same method unless you have recent purchased the property, if so they now use that value.  The are arguments for both positive and negative impacts.
My question to all you, does your state use the Point of Sale assessment?

taxes: Tax Blunder - 04/30/09 11:11 PM

taxes: Politicians and taxes - 04/21/09 11:52 PM
SC State Senator Greg Ryberg has put forward 3 bills which would make it harder for politicians to avoid paying taxes.  Right now there are 12 state house and 1 state senator which have back tax issues from as far back as 1999.  Mr. Ryberg, I wish there were more elected officials like you and to think one of your colleague stood up and protested this bill.  From what I know of the bills, I like them very much and hope the list of names does make itself public.

taxes: It worked - 04/03/09 12:04 AM
Yesterday the South Carolina State House of Representatives voted on a bill which is the first step toward reversing the POS (Point of Sale Assessment).  This is a major victory and I would like to thank all the Realtors in South Carolina for contacting their Representative.
The fight isn't over, the bill still needs to pass the senate.  Be on the look out and be sure to contact your Senator when the time comes.
