toronto urban planning development: Buying Infill properties and Contruction of Laneway Dwellings in Toronto - 07/25/10 09:02 AM

"House behind a house."
I have had many clients who are particular drawn to constructing laneway dwellings. However very few understands the complexity of the process and the hurdles they have to face. From the sellers of point of view, sometimes these unserviced infill lots or structures become unsellable due to Planning restrictions by the City. Before the purchaser can commit to buy the property, it's recommended that the buyer make the offer conditional on consulting various City Departments before proceeding with the purchase.

Toronto Public Works has often opposed the idea of constructing housing on existing, future or proposed laneway, with the exception that there is no privacy with adjacent neighbours, … (0 comments)

toronto urban planning development: Affordable residentail units should manifest the best architecture in the city. - 05/12/10 09:56 AM
Affordable residential units should be innovative, dignified and pleasurable to live in. In the mission to build innovative dwellings, Toronto Community Housing, as the largest affordable housing provider, has initiated plans to build the first phases of new housing co-ops in Regent Park redevelopment, West Donlands and various pockets of downtown Toronto for stronger and sustainable communities.

toronto urban planning development: Five Final Scheme Unveiled for $75 million Competition for St Lawrence Market North Building! - 05/08/10 04:55 AM

St  Lawrence market has always been one of my favorite places to get fresh, in season, organic produce.
Back in February 2010, five well-known architecture teams battled for winning design in the competition to rebuild the significant downtown landmark -$75 million new North Building of Historic St Lawrence Market.
The City expressed that the current one-storey design is under used, and proposed to rebuild a four -storey, sustainable and energy efficient mutli-purpose  urban model. The competing designs can be seen at the competition site here.
The winning design will be announced on June 7!

Public consultation is often inadequate in new development planning process, leading to decisions which often leaves the public baffled.Recently, PPT came up with the concept to create a Community Planning Resource Centre. PPT proposes to take planning beyond design and architecture, and place more emphasis on development relative to … (0 comments)
