kyle hislop: Sometimes you need a little Photoshop... - 10/29/09 11:24 AM
We've all had those listings.  Cluttered, abandoned car in the driveway etc.  In times like these I use Photoshop to help clean up the pic before I publish it on my website.  My clients have always appreciated how great their homes look after a few minutes under the knife.  Now if you are wondering if the Real Estate Manual is against such practise:
"A licensee must not publish real estate advertising that the licensee knows contains a false statement or misrepresentation concerning real estate, a trade in real estate or the provision of real estate services"
However the manual continues: "While … (4 comments)

kyle hislop: Capital Gains Deferral in Canada - 10/25/09 06:05 AM
Does anyone have any case studies done about the benefit of a capital gains deferral in their town?
My government relations committee is looking for some examples to take to government and I'm just wondering if some other boards have done any work on this.  I know Victoria had done a case study but they focused more on the high cost of commercial properties and hopefully a deferral would bring those prices down to a more affordable level.
I'm looking for a case study that shows the decaying downtown city cores that are happening because owners don't want to … (0 comments)

kyle hislop: Compulsive, over-worker much? - 10/23/09 10:05 AM
I was challenged the other day in my local church when the Pastor preached that after God created the heavens and the earth, on the seventh day He rested.  Now I'm not trying to start a theological discussion on if it actually was the seventh day, or six of our days or anything but rather focus on the fact that God rested.  Now being God, He doesn't get tired, He doesn't need to kick up his feet and watch the Oilers dominate the Canucks on a Saturday night.  So why did He rest?  Maybe it was to provide us with … (2 comments)

kyle hislop: President's Meeting - 09/19/09 05:15 PM
Monday and Tuesday are the president's meeting in Vancouver.  We will be discussing such issues as the HST, education and some other hot topics.  I have to be honest the last president's meeting wasn't very useful, so I am hoping this one will be a little better.  I'm not a big fan of having meetings just to have meeting.  I prefer a little meat to the discussion, other wise it would be better left to an email exchange.
I will blog when I return on what we accomplished.

kyle hislop: Chilliwack Realtor - 09/15/09 04:55 AM
Ouch...I am still sore!  We had our 1st annual softball tourney with all the other real estate offices, the RCMP, and the Chilliwack Firefighters.  It was a great event to raise some money for charity, and spend some time with those who are involved in the city.  The RCMP team won the trophy, they were an excellent team and played really well.  Our RE/MAX team did fine, we won 2 out of 3 games.  With that success comes a little pain, and that pain is in my legs, butt, arms and shoulders.
So if you come into my office … (2 comments)

kyle hislop: Chilliwack Realtor thoughts... - 09/11/09 09:12 AM
Is anyone else tired of all the Federal elections we are having in Canada?  The Liberals, even though the current polls are not in their favour, are wanting to push another election.  Jack Layton has so much crap coming out of his mouth I feel the need to grab him a handful of toilet paper everytime he opens it.  Maybe the real problem is these minority governments.  Lets put a party in power, even the green party, I don't care, and let them do their thing for 4 years.  If they suck, kick them out then and elect another.  Minority … (0 comments)

kyle hislop: Chilliwack Real Estate and the HST - 09/05/09 12:24 PM
On July 1, 2010 British Columbia will be having to deal with the HST.  When reading this you may feel I'm totally against the HST, but I'm not.  However there needs to be some more concessions when it comes to Real Estate or there may be some poor consequences.  Below I will show how much of a burden the HST will be for those who dare to purchase a New Construction property after July 1st.
One question that comes to mind.  If new construction decrease their prices to help off set the extra cost for consumers wouldn't previously owned … (0 comments)
