home staging: The New Face of Professional Staging - 09/27/09 04:09 AM
I have to admit this blog was inspired by the comments from another blog I wrote last week http://activerain.com/blogsview/1256749/monster-project-monster-results   I am often amazed how this industry and my company has morphed into this amazing multi-level diverse profession.
If someone had told me 7 years ago when I was thinking of leaving the wine industry to start my own business that I would be soon staging homes, designing interiors and creating custom furnishings amongst other things... I would have said they were nuts!  How could I possibly be doing that when I have been a marketeer and brand director for most of … (14 comments)

home staging: Clients that make you want to work for FREE - 09/24/09 06:48 AM
The title of this blog would make most of the people who know me laugh.  I am a huge advocate for never ever giving anything away for free- from a business prospective. Stagers work much too hard to discount their services whether that service is verbal or back breaking it should always be associated with a monetary amount.  No one values FREE, no one.
How often have we heard had a homeowner or Realtor call us up and say would you mind just coming over and giving me a few ideas on what to do to prepare my home for market?  … (12 comments)

home staging: Small yes, Liveable YES! - 08/20/09 02:49 AM
This small but charming condo was on the market just five days when it received two offers way over asking. The Realtor Nancy Deverel with Hitchcock Realty did an amazing job of educating the homeowners on the need for staging. The smaller the house, the greater the need.
We only have seconds to impressive a buyer enough to choose a property over the competition. Every inch of a property counts, but when it's small its even more important.
Placement of sofa's (can I even get a sofa in here?), beds and dining area is so important.  If the buyers can not … (13 comments)

home staging: When it was done he priced it higher than anything in the neighborhood and it went pending in just 6 DAYS! - 06/04/09 06:17 PM
Last week I posted the blog about a Full Service Staging project that we worked on for four months and launched to very good reviews.   http://activerain.com/blogsview/1090497/months-and-months-of-work-but-worth-it- The owner was very happy with the results and the reviews were very very good.
We received word today that the house has already gone PENDING! Just 6 days.
Yes, that is very good news - in this market - really good news as that was quick. BUT here is the real story.
This home four months ago was not the home you see today by any means. We completely transformed the entire property from head to toe. … (5 comments)

home staging: IF this doesn't sell you on staging, nothing will - 05/28/09 02:32 AM
I was at a property yesterday and chatting with a Realtor about the value of staging. He started to chuckle when I said "It's hard to believe anyone in their right mind would put a house on the market without staging."  Of course, it helped that we were standing in a listing that my crew and I had recently staged and put on the market so the evidence was right in his face.
He told me that some people really are just simply not using both sides of their brain when they put a house on the market. He told me … (18 comments)

home staging: Sometimes the Room is Scarier than the Dog - 03/02/09 09:11 AM
Here doggy, doggy. Nice doggy, doggy.
My Realtor client called me up to say that she need a staging for her client who had a tenant. She wanted me to go by and give her a bid when I had a moment. She was so sweet because she was very concerned that the homeowner had a dog. Me being a dog person I had no concerns. When I arrived and enter the house this little guy was waiting for me.
Being a true stager I found the site of the living space much more scarier than "Killer" here.  This was what we … (16 comments)
