Five Benefits of Historic Designation ! This summer I have been taking a class on Historic Designation and Vintage homes at the local junior college in Santa Rosa, California. I have learned about numerous aspects of the process for obtaining designation as a Historic Preservation District. The class project, in fact, is a survey of the junior college district housing stock to establish the basis for historic designation. Last year I was involved in helping a retired couple moving from Michigan to the wine region in Sonoma, California to be closer to their daughter (a single -mom) and three grandsons. I have spent many years selling and refurbishing vintage homes in Historic neighborhoods, such as San Francisco, Healdsburg and Santa Rosa and on the East coast. In Northern Virginia, I was on the committee to establish Historic Designation for Fairlington Villages, built by the government to house all the G.I.'s returning from World War II. Traveling the Back Roads of Sonoma County / Fall Series This weekend my husband, our miniature schnauzer and I went on a excursion along the byways of West Sonoma County. The first segment of our trip took us along Hall Road going west through the Santa Rosa plain to Occidental Road to 116 going South. All along the route were scenes that attested to West County's peculiar combination of the bucolic, the whimsical and the free - spirited! For example , this mailbox is approximately twelve feet off the ground. As it label indicates , it is only for AIR MAIL.

REALTORS - AMBASSADORS FOR ENERGY EFFICIENCY? Sonoma County has recently announced a community action plan to generate discussion and education about the issues and challenges we face in dealing with the impact of global climate change. We are very proud of our county for initiating this undertaking as many "talk" about what needs to be "done" but few implement the difficult tasks necessary to change.
