activerain community: Tag, You're It!!!........too much? - 09/01/14 10:18 AM
Tag, You’re It!  …..... Too Much?

You know the saying.. be careful what you ask for?
In my years of blogging and commenting here on ActiveRain, I’d wished for some way of notifying people of my response to a comment they made on my post, or some way of bringing another member into the conversation.

Voila!

With the recent update at ActiveRain, we now have the ability to tag people in our comments and our posts.  We no longer have to take that extra step of sending an email to someone in response to their comment.  ( or Gawd forbid … (55 comments)

activerain community: Want to Know What to Include in Your Blog? Try the 4 E's! - 08/12/14 10:10 AM
Want to Know What to Include in Your Blog?  Try the 4 E’s!

For me the hardest part of blogging has been deciding on a topic.  And, after that, the approach I want to take.  Liz and Bill Spear, in their Ask An Ambassador series wrote a post today addressing all of the many questions and dilemmas that come up when deciding on your blogging efforts.

The thing to remember is that it is YOUR blog, your ship and your path to choose.

There are, however, some basics that I think all good posts will have.   When I’m trolling … (81 comments)

activerain community: How to blog like a Professional - 07/30/14 09:52 AM

I love what Richard has to say about ActiveRain and why he's here.  If you're wondering about why so many people are blogging and commenting and "liking" and "following" here it's because it's about learning how to blog like a professional and also about the community.   If you're not familiar with Richard Yates, I encourage you to follow him and please head to his post and leave a comment.

activerain community: You Don't HAVE to Comment! - 07/21/14 10:26 AM
You Don’t Have to Comment!

We spend a lot of time suggesting that we engage in ActiveRain by not only reading posts here, but also making comments.  And, that is absolutely true.

Commenting:

1. Lets people know that someone read their post
2. It can let them know who we are- tell them a little about us.
3. It also lets other readers get to know us. 4. It’s a way of saying “thank you” to a blogger for commenting on your own post.

However, just because you see or read a post doesn’t mean you have to comment on … (71 comments)

activerain community: Do You Realize How Lucky We Are? - 07/16/14 05:55 AM
Do you realize how lucky we are?

This morning I attended a Women’s Council of Realtors Meeting for Affiliates.  I love the idea that the organization is trying to bring more value to our participation as Affiliates.

The topic…How to Use Social Media.
You know how much I love to learn, especially about Social Media and anything tech oriented.  However, as I was listening to the presentation by Jennifer Rosato of Sotheby’s International,
I realized just how lucky we at ActiveRain are.

All of what we need to know about:
*How to use Social Media in general
*How … (28 comments)

activerain community: Do You Have a Code Word? You Should! - 07/01/14 03:25 AM

I was roaming the ActiveRain halls this morning and found a post written a few months ago by David Serle, with RE/Max Services in Boca Raton.  What he suggests makes a lot of sense.  Hope you'll read this and brokers, perhaps bring this up at your next meeting.

There have been so many scary articles recently about "fake" customers assaulting real estate agents.  It made me think how scary this must be.  Most of them were women and in society today unfortunately we need to take precautions that this never happens to you.  We always think "this can never happen … (18 comments)

Quality is in the Eye of the Reader.  Whom Do You Want Your Reader to Be?

Much talk has been made about the content in our blogs.  Quality or Quantity, or perhaps even both.
(BTW, Debbie Gartner wrote an excellent post on your quantity of posts.)Before you leave, this is NOT a post about the recent increase in posts per week that qualify for points. That topic has been thrashed, stomped on, and dragged through the muck enough. No this is about quality.

Quality is in the eye of the reader.

Some have questioned the presence of the roboblogs … (18 comments)

activerain community: Template or Pictures? - 06/30/14 02:29 AM

OK... you know what they say, if you don't vote, you lose the right to complain.  The staff has asked your preference for their photo editor ideas that they're considering,  so express your opinion!
     Keep it friendly!!
As always, AR is tossing around ideas to improve your blogging ease.  In addition to other improvements, we were wondering...
If you had the ability to upload a template or purchase a photo from iStockphoto directly from your blog, which one would you prefer and why?

activerain community: Just a Thought About All the Stuff Going On. - 06/24/14 08:42 PM
Just a Thought About All the Stuff Going On.

One of the first sites I read in the morning is CNBC.  I scan the headlines to learn what I need to be worried about for the day,  or what companies we should have bought or shouldn’t have.  Half of what I read flies over my head , or to be more accurate it whizzes by, but every once in a while, I’ll see an article that jiggles the old dendrites.

Such was the case recently, when I read an article “Google’s secret updates leaves small sites scrambling.”

Well any … (44 comments)

How to Access ActiveRain via Your iPad/iPhone-a Workaround.

If you’re like me,  you use your iPhone and iPad throughout the day to access ActiveRain.  And if you’re like me, you’ve had a difficult time accessing some parts of the community since the recent update.

Today I was able to catch Bob Stewart and he gave me a way to access ActiveRain until the mobile issue is fixed.

First, let me say that Bob was waiting to hop a plane to somewhere and took the time to tell me how to do it, not once but twice (because … (19 comments)

activerain community: Just Inspected - 06/22/14 10:10 AM

I don't know about youbut I learn a lot from our home inspector members at ActiveRain.  James Dray started a new group called Just Inspected that you will want to join as well as post to.

Head to James' post if you have any questions and take a look at the group!!
I was reading Michael Thornton's post today and started a new group.  When I tried to create the group I was having difficulty and of course I called Kathy Steib one of my go to persons when I'm having problems in the Rain.  She directed me to Craig Daniels and in just … (8 comments)

ActiveRain Discovery… Would You Like Some Bling?

It doesn’t always rain in ActiveRain, and even though there are the occasional glitches, there are some fun surprises sometimes.

The other day I went to take a peek at my Traffic.  By the way, if you’re not looking at your traffic, you could be missing out on some useful information, such as which posts of yours get the most Clicks, for example.

Anyway, back on track, there was a period of time when our much coveted went missing.

Oh yes, say what you will, but we all like to know … (44 comments)

I didn't see this until todaybut now's your chance to let the AR staff know what changes you would like regarding the Blog Editor.
The AR staff wants to know what features are missing from the Blog Editor, what you like, and you get the drift.
Please remember these guys are just trying to make us all happy and at the same time work within the confines of the system.
So, head over to their post and let them know what you think.

A Tip for Writing Your Local Event Post- Where and When!

Writing posts on local events can be fun and easy to do, especially if you’ve actually attended the event and taken photographs.  It’s an added bonus when the business or event director calls to tell you how much they appreciated your post.

And, if you’ve been writing local event posts for any amount of time, you’re always tickled when you receive a call from someone wanting to know if you have any corned beef left or if they are allowed to bring their dog to the orchid show. … (35 comments)

activerain community: Floating to Where I Am....... - 05/14/14 09:01 PM

Very few Home Stagers ever set out to become a Stager.  Like others, we end up here after careers in other areas.

With some it’s a natural morphing into a new career and some take a more circuitous route.  My early career was doing clinical psychological testing.  I’d just gotten out of Grad School and began working for a professor in his private practice.

While it was interesting, I also didn’t find it all that stimulating.  I was ready to get out into the real world.

For the next 15 years I was in sales…. I sold … (58 comments)

activerain community: You Want Whom??? - 05/12/14 09:15 PM
Some of my favorite posts to write are the ones about the events, people or places in Delray Beach.   And so I thought I’d share with you my most recent experience.

I received a call from someone who wanted to know why I had not responded any of his emails.

What?  What emails?

I’d written a post a while back on an art organization. This gentleman wanted to join the organization, but needed more information.  When he finally contacted someone at the organization, guess whose number they gave him?  Yep.. .mine.

Hey, folks, I just write the posts and pass … (32 comments)

activerain community: Local May Not Be Local to YOU, but It Is to the Local. - 05/05/14 09:10 PM
Local May Not Be Local to You, but It Is to the Local!

I enjoy writing posts about the activities taking place in my area.  It’s fun and I love showing off Delray Beach.  Some bloggers aren’t sure of the payoff for writing them, and that’s ok.  It’s your choice….remember YOUR blog, YOUR choice.

I even enjoy reading local posts written by bloggers here.   It’s a chance to learn more about what’s going on throughout the country. Several posts about Savannah, Jacksonville and St. Augustine written by George Souto last week made me want to revisit those areas!

Local Event Posts- Post Them Early Enough to Give People a Head’s Up!

If you include posts about local events in your blogging regimen, then let me pass on a tip that Richard Yates gave us several years ago.  ( ok, I think it was Richard and if it was someone else, I apologize.)

When I first started writing about local events in Delray Beach, I would write them the day before or the day of the event.
However, it was pointed out to us that when people are searching for a local event, they often begin several weeks in … (43 comments)

This is one of my favorite challenges/contests at ActiveRain because we all get to learn!
Don't forget to follow the guidelines, though, so that you can receive your hard earned points!
Read below and by the way, there's still time to get your entry in.   Please leave your comments on Dick's post!

First, I'd like to thank all of you who have participated. Your willingness to share and eagerness to learn are amazing, and have generated a lot of great collaborations and some very productive results.

However, I see way more posts in the Sensei/Grasshopper group … (6 comments)
