Throwback Thursdays…Market Reports, Listings, and Comments.

Several years ago I wrote a post that was inspired by one from our Margaret Rome Baltimore 410-530-2400

It had to do with being courteous and professional with our comments on consumer-focused posts of fellow members.

For example, someone posts about a new listing…

Supportive: “Congratulations on your new listing. Best of luck for a quick sale.”

Not so much: “The seller should update the appliances in the kitchen.”

Listing and market reports are consumer-driven or focused… the ones that you hope will gain good SEO and attract consumers (those who will hopefully help keep your boats afloat.)

blogging: My Guide for Blogging Success…The “Not to Do” List - 12/05/22 02:48 PM
My Guide for Blogging Success…The “Not to Do” List

For my entry into this month’s December  2022  Challenge-A Guide for Blogging Success hosted by Jeff Dowler, CRS and Brian England, I decided to begin with what I would put on my “Not to Do” list.

Depending upon who you talk to the list could be long…very long but I decided to pick the things I think are important, no matter what direction you want your blog to take.
These are things that cause me to move on or never return.

The Wall of Words

With YouTube, videos, and audiobooks so popular, actually reading something often … (25 comments)

How To Keep Your Posts From Sounding Too Buzzy/Stuffy

Today I was listening to someone speak and the first several minutes almost put me to sleep. It felt like I was sitting through someone presenting a paper before a very formal academic group.  Unless this is your purpose, refrain from using terms and words that you think make you sound like a professor.

We live in a world where information comes at us 24/7. Most of us here rarely will read a post that is all words and more words. It’s important to remember that our readers feel the same way.

Even Summer Television Has Reruns, So Why Not You?

The heat is on!  ActiveRain has a new owner, Ben Kinney ,  and the welcomed return of Bob Stewart .  Let’s get back to blogging and quality content. That doesn’t mean, by the way, that the posts that we love to read that let us get to know the blogger a bit better will go away.

This community runs on much more than listings and stats.

So what do you do? Where can you get blog ideas?

Do what television does… think reruns!

Remember, not everyone will have read each and every one of your … (30 comments)

blogging: Even Stagers Benefit from Local/Neighborhood Posts! - 07/23/14 11:00 AM
Even Stagers Benefit from Local/Neighborhood Posts!

One of Bob Stewart’s earlier challenges the summer of 2009 was to write local posts.  It was a great way to show the members how to write posts to generate targeted traffic.  And, points hoarder that I was, I asked Bob if it was open to Home Stagers.

And so, I set out to write 7 posts.
I’m not saying it’s easier for agents but people looking for stagers usually just “Google” home stager Boca Raton (or whatever town or city they’re in)

Fast forward to yesterday when I received an inquiry from … (32 comments)

Blogging Daily- Here We Go Again!  It’s All About CRAPP!

Several years ago, after completing a 30 in 30 challenge, I wrote a post letting my fellow members know what I learned from the challenge…. CRAPP!  This was a challenge I’d completed even while having 2 long road trips (one planned and one unexpected!)

Inlight of the many 30 in 30’s we’ve been having I thought I’d take it out of the blogging attic, dust it off, freshen it up and offer it to you as what I learned from blogging every day.

So yes, I learned CRAPP from my … (71 comments)

blogging: Call Me Obsessive But Here's What I Do to Keep Track of What I Do! - 01/03/13 08:10 PM
Call Me Obsessive But Here’s What I Do to Keep Track of What I Do!
When I started posting every day and expanding on the topics for my blog I wanted a way to keep track of what I was doing.  For example, I wanted a balance between posts on staging, local posts and  posts like this one.
I wanted a way to keep track of who reblogged my posts (to make sure I reciprocated at some point) and who I reblogged.  And I wanted to be able to track down a post I’d written without scrolling through my posts in AR. … (28 comments)

blogging: ActiveRain, Facebook, Twitter, Outside Blog. . Hm-m-m oh,yes , I forgot. .. my Website! - 11/08/09 11:18 PM
Last week my new client told me she'd decided to call me because of what I'd said on my website.  Smiling, I said, "And what was that?"(Now in all honesty, as she said that, part of my brain was scrambling to try to remember what great marketing phrase or slogan I'd used.  Would I be able to live up to what she said my website claimed?   Think, I told myself.  What could I have possibly said on my website that made her decide to Stage her home?)
Thankfully, she remembered.                            "The investment in Staging is far less than your first Price … (24 comments)

blogging: I had this perfectly good blog sitting around at ActiveRain; and I thought, hey, why not put it to good use!? - 10/29/09 02:59 PM
I've only been seriously blogging on ActiveRain since December of 2008.  (I wrote my first post on ActiveRain in June but it took me 6 months before I wrote another one.)  Before that I sent out periodic e-Newsletters via Constant Contact.( and still do)   I've never wanted to just send out facts and figures about my "wonderful" Staging efforts.  I thought that if I wanted to attract and keep readers or subscribers, I needed to give them something other than figures on how quickly my Staged homes sold.  It's not brain surgery.  I receive e-Newsletters daily and the ones that I read … (7 comments)

blogging: Okay, I mean it, if you're not taking advantage of the Local Business Challenge, take a look! - 08/01/09 01:32 PM
Okay, I mean it, if you're not taking advantage of the Local Business Challenge, take a look!  Hey I know it's Saturday night (and, yes, it's pretty pathetic that I'm on my laptop at 9:20 on a Saturday night!) but I just blogged about  Escentials less than 30 minutes ago and look:

Carolann doesn't have a website and already has a loyal clientele.  However, I'm hoping that this might attract nearby customers from Boca Raton and Boynton Beach, as well as tourists and people coming back for the season.
It's so easy:

blogging: I finally unblocked my writer's block and oops. . . I had to restart my computer. Can you recover a blog with AutoSave??? - 07/11/09 03:24 PM
I'd been scratching my head all day and after finally choosing a topic, writing it in a new blog, adding pictures, and, yes, using Spell check, I had to restart my computer.

Since I'm still a relative "newbie" to AR, I've been "writing without a net" so to speak.  I'd thought about writing my blog in a Word file where it could be saved and then copying it to my blog, but, well that would be too smart, wouldn't it.  I did notice a message in the upper right hand corner.
                           "Draft auto-saved at 10:13pm"
What luck! I thought, … (10 comments)

blogging: Blogging Away?? Did you know you could be libel, as in lawsuit?? - 07/06/09 03:03 PM

In various places, Blogs have been defined as personal journals or diaries; a means for the "Every-person" to be able to voice their thoughts and opinions.  But here's something to remember, as pointed out in today's Sun-Sentinel  in South Florida, as a blogger you become a "potential Editor-in-Chief".  In other words, and let me make it clear, I am not an Attorney, you could be held libel for what you "say"/blog, and therefore be sued.  Damages have been awarded.
There is a Media Bloggers Association formed in 2004 that has also developed the first media liability insurance for bloggers in 2008.  The article also talks … (9 comments)

blogging: ACTIVErain- here's why you should put the ACTIVE in your Rain. - 06/15/09 02:26 PM
I know there have been many posts lately about why you should blog.  Steve Shatsky just wrote a great one about how blogging is a good outlet and networking resource.  He's right.  If you're on Activerain just as an observer then you're missing out on a lot of information and maybe even some leads.
Let me give you an example: A few days agoI wrote about foreclosures and distressed properties and how they relate to content insurance for Stagers.  Virginia Tatseos left a comment that was prime for someone to follow up.  In essence she needed a Stager.  I emailed her and we have … (6 comments)
