celebrate the day: Information Overload Day is October 20! - 10/18/18 03:48 PM
Information Overload Day is October 20!

Unlike computers, you and I can only take in and process so much information at any given time.

I was reminded of this when the wonderful young lady who takes care of my nails and I were having a conversation.

She told me that recently she had to just back away. I asked her did she mean back away from her family, her work? What?

No, she said she needed to back away from so much information being thrown at her.
Between emails, texts, social media, and the news, she wanted to turn everything off for a … (30 comments)

Congratulations to Sharon Tara-2,000,000!!!

Where do you go when you need some creative placement of heads on bodies????
Where do you go when you need some ideas for Halloween costumes???
Where do you go when you want to know how to stage that “interesting” room?

celebrate the day: World Heart Day is September 29...Show Your Heart Some Love! - 09/27/18 02:13 PM
World Heart Day is September 29...Show Your Heart Some Love!

Each year to celebrate and honor World Heart Day it has been my goal to share a story with you. If in doing so I get one person to look after their heart or their loved one's heart then I consider myself successful.

If I am able to remind others of the warning signs, then I have done what I set out to do.
And if I have encouraged just one person to take charge of their own health and listen to what their body is telling them, then I will be … (30 comments)

celebrate the day: International Day of Peace is September 21 - 09/20/18 04:41 PM
International Day of Peace is September 21.

This is the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
You can read more about International Peace Day and how it began here.

Of course, World Peace isn’t limited to policymakers and those in government or ending wars.

But put your thinking cap on and imagine how you and I, little people in the big ocean of the world, can be that pebble of peace that through our one action may affect one person who will then pass that on to the next person.

No matter what side of the fence you are … (27 comments)

celebrate the day: Positive Thinking Day is September 13! - 09/12/18 03:57 PM
Positive Thinking Day is September 13!

This is a day that I try to celebrate every day of my life. Of course, there are some days or situations that tug at my usually positive attitude.

Why we should be thinking positively?

There’s a growing list and we all know why but just in case…
It’s healthier for you!

Positive thinking can help you when coping with stress, and we all know that stress is bad for you not just because of its emotional impact on you but what it can do to you physically.
It can improve your immune system.
It can help with your … (27 comments)

celebrate the day: September 11, 2001- What I Want to Remember. - 09/10/18 01:07 PM
September 11, 2001- What I Want to Remember.

This day is still hard for many. Friends, co-workers, family members were lost. Lives are still being impacted. Just last month a friend’s brother-in-law was rushed to the hospital with a tumor related to his work at Ground Zero.

There are things that happened we never can or never should forget.

What I am remembering this day is what came after that horrific morning.

I am choosing to remember how people, men, and women, came together to help those they’d never met and would probably never see again.

I want to remember other countries who … (50 comments)

celebrate the day: International Literacy Day is September 8. - 09/06/18 03:13 PM
International Literacy Day is September 8.

Any day that calls attention to the need for reading skills is an important day for me.
This year’s theme is Literacy and Skills Development.

There are events that have been planned around the world to help observe this day.
For example, on Thursday, September 6, Mirror Lake Elementary in Plantation, FL scheduled time to read between 9 and 10 AM.

Today’s jobs and professions require the kinds of skills that necessitate a strong reading and comprehension level.
Imagine not being able to read and understand the instructions for operating a machine.

Videos are on every site … (32 comments)

Have a Relaxing Labor Day!

Whatever your plans are...cookouts, shopping, relaxing or working, have a wonderful Labor Day.

If all the cars in the United States were placed end to end, it would probably be Labor Day Weekend.   Doug Larson

celebrate the day: Banana Split Day is August 25! - 08/23/18 03:05 PM
Banana Split Day is August 25!

For me, ice cream and summer go hand in hand. As summer is drawing to an end, I can’t think of a better way to say adieu than to celebrate with a banana split!

To be sure, I do my best to eat healthy meals but what would life be if you couldn’t indulge once in a while.

The original recipe (1904) had your requisite split banana with scoops of chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry ice cream. It also had pineapple chunks, sliced strawberries, chopped peanuts, whipped cream and maraschino cherries.

Ice cream is something I rarely eat … (32 comments)

Be an Angel Day is August 22! What Will You Do to Be One?

Just a heads up that tomorrow (August 22) is Be An Angel Day. Reverand Jayne Howard Feldman started the celebration of this day to encourage others to incorporate random acts of kindness into their daily lives.

If you’re like me the phrase Thank you...you’re an angel has been said many times to many people who have performed some act of kindness towards me or others.

Maybe we take these acts for granted or perhaps some have come to expect them, however, there is nothing better for feeding the soul … (28 comments)

celebrate the day: August 10 is Lazy Day. - 08/09/18 04:54 PM
August 10 is Lazy Day.

Yes, I’m grasping at straws here.  It’s been a busy week and as I was pondering a topic for the day, I discovered that it is Lazy Day.

And, as such, we have been given license to be lazy today.
For the most part, I shy away from being truly lazy. It might be because of what it implies.

However, I do plead guilty to taking the time to just relax and do something I want to do that I enjoy.
My women friends and I talk about how much easier it is to do nothing when … (27 comments)

August 2 is National Coloring Book Day...Bring Out That Inner Kid!

With the beginning of a new school year, my thoughts turn to the excitement I had when I got to buy a new box of crayons...Crayola brand to be specific.  First, there were 8. And of course, as I got older, the boxes got bigger.

For fun, take a look at The Crayon Bow...a Crayola Chart showing the colors from 1903 - 2010.

I cannot remember how many coloring books I had or how many coloring books I purchased for all of the children in my life. I have to admit … (25 comments)

National Junk Food Day is July 21!

Warning to Barbara Todaro ...do NOT read this!  (just kidding) With so many of us trying to eat clean, it’s a bit ludicrous to talk about eating junk food.

But just pretend that you could eat any junk food you wanted for this day without being concerned about or impacted by calories, sugar, salt, carbs, gluten, nitrates, additives, fat, and all of the other goodies...what junk food would you pick?
Savory??? Such as potato chips or French Fries?
Sweet??? Such as cookies, ice cream or chocolate?

I think we owe it to ourselves to indulge our junk food fantasies … (34 comments)

Simplicity Day is July 12-Count Me In!

Years ago there was an ad that pictured a young girl with the caption Remember how simple life used to be?

If you’re of a certain age, I’ll bet you remember that ad.

Well, today is Simplicity Day and it is celebrated in honor of the birthday of Henry David Thoreau.

You must live in the present, launch yourself on every wave, find your eternity in each moment. Fools stand on their island of opportunities and look toward another land. There is no other land; there is no other life but this.

July is National Cell Phone Courtesy Month…

Before I begin, let me say that as a gadget queen, I love my smartphone!  It is always within easy reach and I do not (yet) feel the need to go off to some island and divest myself of all of my electronic goodies for a week.

That said, as in other new endeavors, we as a society are often slow to catch up to the courtesies, rules, and consequences of new technology.

So allow some tips...

Global Beatles Day is June 25!

It’s hard to imagine anyone not being familiar with the music and lyrics of John, Paul, George, and Ringo. So whether you’re a casual fan of theirs or someone who knows every song they’ve written, this day is for you.

Why this day?
It was on June 25 in 1967 that All You Need is Love was performed on a program, Our World, and broadcast via satellite to 26 countries and was seen by 400 million people.

Of course, they were formed 10 years before that and even performed on the Ed Sullivan show in 1964 to 73 … (24 comments)

celebrate the day: Flag Day is June 14...a Special Meaning - 06/13/18 01:05 PM
Flag Day is June 14 ...a Special Meaning.

Flag Day is not one of those holidays or special days that we tend to recognize like we do July 4th or Memorial Day. It commemorates the day that the United States Flag was adopted back in 1777.

I can remember after 9/11, flags flew everywhere...on front porches, flagpoles, from cars and people proudly wore lapel pins.
(BTW...this is NOT a political post at all so if you’re in search of one, check out Facebook)
