Delray Beach- Achievement

Why is it that the holidays, even though you know that they’re coming, and do so at the same time every year, still manage to find you scrambling to get things done in time?

I’ve made my list of “yet-to-be-done” things and am crossing them off. All I can say is thank goodness for Amazon Prime.

delray beach: Highlights from the Delray Beach Christmas Parade-2017 - 12/10/17 05:03 PM
Highlights from the Delray Beach Christmas Parade-2017

One of the many things that we love about living in Delray Beach is going to the parades. Yes, they're bigger in New York but there’s nothing quite like going to a hometown parade.

Delray Beach had their annual Christmas parade Saturday night and even with cooler temperatures (OK...low 60’s and breezy) we still enjoyed it.
At one time, I remember the parades taking place in the afternoons but for several years now the parades have been at night.

Our viewing has transitioned from going just to have fun and another excuse for adult reverie to … (28 comments)

Delray Beach...Giving

‘Tis the season and the crunch is on for buying, wrapping, baking and preparing for the next year.

It is the season to open our hearts and give to others...and that includes people we don’t even know.

This week I saw something on one of the morning shows about a young girl who saw a need and took it upon herself to get the ball rolling. Rachel Ritchie saw that some children could not access her playground because of their special needs.  She knew that this was not right.

Delray Beach...Change

There is so much change going on in all our lives. Delray Beach has a new tree (still 100 feet high) in a somewhat new location.
New businesses are coming to town, and others have left.

It’s not that I don’t like change. But I prefer it when I am the one making the change, not the one having to adjust to it.

Delray Beach-It’s All About Friends and Family.

Just in case it has escaped anyone, we are deep into the season of giving, being kind to each other and spending an inordinate amount of time with our friends and family. And, I for one, love every minute of it.

delray beach: Thankful for the Beach - 11/16/17 11:28 AM
Thankful For the Beach

From the moment we moved to Delray Beach 30 years ago I was in love with the beach. It wasn’t my first experience with the beach since I am from Houston and we went to the beach often when I was growing up.
However, there are the Texas beaches, and then there are FLORIDA beaches!

The beach is my source of energy before I start the day. It is ever changing-like a lake on some days and rough and choppy on others.

Delray Beach...To All Those Who Serve and Have Served.
We have had Chamber of Commerce weather this week, and word of warning to my friends up north...prepare for our annual onslaught of sunny beaches and warm weather from all of your friends down south!!!

Delray Beach- A Championship Week

What a week! I had about 200 Trick or Treaters at the house for Halloween! I’d made 170 bags to hand out but had loose pieces left over...thank goodness.
We had beautiful weather so most of the Givers sat out on our front porch waiting for all of the costumed kiddies and adults to stroll by.

I love our neighborhood because they have activities for kids before a parade and then the candy gathering begins!

Saturday we caught part of the Witches of Delray Annual Ride through Downtown Delray.

Delray Beach- Halloween is Here!

Delray Beach finally got a bit of fall weather this week...Thursday morning when we began our walk at the beach it was 58 degrees!!!

That may not seem like much to some of you but when you’re usually walking in 80+ degree weather with high humidity at 7 AM, this was a real treat.

Delray Beach...Patience

Residents in Palm Beach County had to exercise some patience this week.  SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) took place this week at 3 locations in Palm Beach County and one of them was in Delray Beach.

This program is for those families who are not ordinarily eligible for food assistance such as Food Stamps but lost food in Hurricane Irma.

Delray Beach- My Two Faves

When I graduated from high school way back when, it was a tradition for the drill team to take a 2 week road trip through DC, Boston, NY, and Canada.
We were supposed to see the Radio City Music Hall Rockettes but there was a scheduling oops moment and we saw instead Barefoot in the Park, starring Robert Redford and Jane Fonda.

Delray Beach...Another Year!

A few months ago while I was waiting for my “turn” for treadmill stress test, there was a very nice gentleman waiting as well.
I knew that he’d been in the room before me, so I said: “you must be next.”

Oh no, honey. I’m 94 and have had bypass surgery. No treadmill for me!
I said: “It’s heck getting older, isn’t it!”

And he said...On no, dear! I’m happy to be getting older.

Nextdoor- Another Very Useful Tool

Social media has proven to be a valued tool for communicating with those who may be as far away as your family across the country or as close as neighbors just a few miles down the road.

During Hurricane Irma, a Delray Beach woman was rescued after she posted on Facebook that her roof was peeling back and water was coming in.Her calls to the police were not getting through.

Delray Beach….Whew!

If memory serves, Hurricane Irma makes my 7th or 8th hurricane...I’ve honestly lost count.
Up until last Saturday, when Irma veered west, she was the one who caused me the most fright.
As Larry pointed out to me, Harvey leveled Rockport, TX at 130 mph. Irma was projected to come in at 185 mph.

Help Hurricane Victims With Your Own Hurricane Supplies

This is an idea that someone in our community is doing and I wanted to pass it on.

If you have seen the videos of the flooding in Houston thanks to Harvey or the devastation that Irma inflicted on the Florida Keys, west coast, and Jacksonville areas, you know that there are many who need urgent assistance.

Having just gone through Irma myself, I know that I have a stockpile of supplies that are sitting waiting for the next (hope not) hurricane to hit.

Monday-Monday-Am I Here or Was I Here?

First of all, it’s not about the points but more about the discipline.
I’ve posted something every day now for I forget how many years. I wasn’t about to let IRMA get in my way.

That said, I have no idea what she is going to do on Sunday, which will have been yesterday by the time you read this.

Delray Beach- Yikes!

And this week...Katie...bar the door. Really...bar the door, board the window, and fill the tub with water!
