Delray Beach-The First Spring Breakers Arrive!

There seemed to be a lot of young people around the beach and Atlantic Avenue this week. It turns out that some of our neighbors to the north had their Spring Break this week.  And so it begins…..

This is also Library Lovers’ Month so I hope you will visit your local library and take your children there as well. If you haven’t been in a while (as in when you were in college) you’ll be pleasantly surprised at the changes.

Delray Beach- Cool Air and Surf -A Good Lead-up to Valentine’s Day!

We had cool weather this week, which meant most of the locals (that would be me) bundled up for their morning walks.

On Monday afternoon while out for an afternoon ride we couldn’t believe the waves that were out.  We don’t get the kind of waves that  those in California or Australia get but we take what we can get. It’s so much fun watching surfers, young and old, race out with their … (27 comments)

Delray Beach- Cloudy with a Twist(er)

It’s been a fun and busy week.  Eileen Burns hosted a MeetUp for Broward County on Tuesday at Caluz.  We had 4 in attendance and absolutely gorgeous weather.

Then on Wednesday, rain and a tornado down in Broward County.
On Thursday, while we were working out in the gym I heard the sirens go off.  No one paid any attention but a few minutes later, we saw that a tornado had touched down just 2 miles away.

Word to the wise… pay attention when the sirens go off!

Delray Beach- Sending Some Sun Up North!

It has been raining all day in Delray Beach but you will get no complaints from me. At least, it’s warm and as long as you have floaties on your car, you can traverse the streets!

If you did not have the opportunity to attend the ActiveRain State of the Company webinar today, it was recorded so keep your eyes open for a link to it. Or, read an excellent summary by Jon Kolsky.

Delray Beach- Break Out the (Light) Jackets!

One could say that winter has finally come to Delray Beach.  Well, it has for the full-time residents here.  We were the ones wearing long pants and jackets on our early morning walks.

For those visiting from the north, it was business as usual- shorts, flip flops and t-shirts.
Later this week, we heard about the first hurricane for the 2016 season (thankfully nothing occurred here) and today we had a tornado warning!

Delray Beach- Clouds, Rain and Wild Cards

The first week of the New Year in Delray Beach was rainy and cool, but who can complain, it was still in the low 70’s!

It’s been interesting watching our 100 foot Christmas come down.  I’m always a little sad to see the tree, skating rink, and all of the holiday trimmings come down.
However, there’s something refreshing about the beginning of the New Year….a clean slate… an opportunity to make this a good year.

Delray Beach- A New Year Begins

One thing I love about this time of year is the sense of lull that creeps into our lives between Christmas and New Years.  And then BAM! the New Year is upon us!
Delray Beach is especially busy during the holidays with families
and visitors enjoying our warm weather, our beaches and Atlantic Avenue.

And now we welcome the new year. Full of things that have never been.

Delray Beach- Almost Over, But Still Some Christmas Spirit Left!

Christmas was yesterday, but there is still the holiday spirit spilling over into the weekend.
Atlantic Avenue and the beach are swarming with families and visitors… everyone enjoying our beach and Atlantic Avenue.

Please indulge me while I try for the 6th time to offer my take on “Twas the Night Before Christmas.”

Twas the Night Before the Showing

When all through the house,
Not a Creature was stirring,
Not even a mouse.

All the boxes  and shopping bags could be seen  everywhere
But in just a few hours, the Buyers would soon be there.

Spreading Some Christmas Cheer…

We may not have snow or cold weather, but we do our best to spread Christmas cheer here in Delray Beach.

Last Saturday, Delray Beach had its Jingle Bell Jog on A1A.  It’s a 5K run that many cities have to celebrate the season. We were observers while we were on our own Saturday morning walk and what a treat it was.  This has to have been one of the largest runs I’ve seen along A1A….someone said there were 2000 participants.

There were Santas everywhere since each participant was given a Santa suit, beard and jingle bells for … (30 comments)

Delray Beach-The Force is Finally With Us!

The clock was ticking this week for the release of Star Wars-The Force Awakens.  While I’m a huge fan and can remember seeing the first Star Wars in 1977, I am content to wait until after those who waited in line for hours have seen it.
In preparation for the new Star wars, we watched the original trilogy- Episodes IV, V and VI.  I already had those on DVD.
What about you?  Do you have plans to see the new movie?

Delray Beach- Finally…. The Sun Found Its Way Back!

After about 3 weeks of cloudy days, wind and rain, the sun finally graced us with its warmth and light.  We all needed it, trust me.
Everywhere I went, people seemed to be a little on edge… no sun… the holidays peeking around the corner...parties to attend...bah humbug!
And then YEA…. sunshine!!!

Delray Beach- Ready, Set, Go… The Holiday Season is Officially Here!

Thanksgiving has come and gone.  Black Friday was yesterday, today is Small Business Saturday and Monday is Cyber Monday.
I haven’t set foot in a store, but I’m tired just thinking of all of the shopping (and hopefully buying) being done.
Once again, we come to the Holiday Season, a deeply religious time that each of us observes, in his own way, by going to the mall of his choice.

Delray Beach- Heading Into Thanksgiving.

Whether you’re heading off to places far away or staying home, Thanksgiving is the time of year when we gather our family and friends around us and give thanks for all that we have.
This week has been a busy week in Delray.  Our favorite hangout, Ellies 50’s Diner celebrated their 25th year in business, and we were invited to help Bob and Ellie celebrate.

Delray Beach- Eyes to the Skies- Clouds

When we walk along the beach every morning our eyes are usually focused on the beach and the ocean.  Some days the ocean is as flat as glass.  On others, you can look out and see small dollops of whipped cream on the tops of waves.

The beach is no different, every day is different.  Piles of seaweed at ocean’s edge on some days, and on others a seashell lover’s paradise.
We may see seagulls and terns having their morning breakfast or a small group of yoga enthusiasts offering sun salutations to that little orange ball … (27 comments)

Delray Beach - Keeping Cool

Oh yes, it’s still warm in Delray Beach (86 degrees during the day) but that’s not exactly what I meant by keeping cool.

Walking into the gym the other morning, I witnessed an older man sitting in his car in one of the handicapped spots.   He was there with the door open and was very casually unwrapping little Tootsie Rolls (Planet Fitness has them in bowls for everyone) popping them in his mouth, then dropping the wrappers on the pavement.

Delray Beach-Time Away is Strange.

It’s a funny thing about being part of this ActiveRain community.  You become addicted to it.  Many of us start all or part of our early mornings reading posts, commenting, answering questions and posting. We have friends here we look forward to seeing.

We want to see if we might get more than 2 correct on Wayne Martin  daily trivia...how Lou Ludwig  will motivate us today...what interesting bit of information James Dray  will favor us with…. and finally if Roger D. Mucci  (BARFF) will ever beat Mickey in their weekly game.

Delray Beach - Learning the Value of Exercise.

We completed our second week of working out with a trainer and as tired as I am, I love it.  There’s something synergistic about exercising the mind and the body.
I’ve kept my mind active but the body has taken a back seat.  It’s not exactly been neglected over the years but clearly one has only to look at my angel wings and you can see the neglect.

But as those of you who workout know, when you get some exercise, whether through the gym or some outside cardio activity, oxygen gets to travel … (43 comments)

Delray Beach- I’m Not Aging in Place!

I may have become a year older this week, but I’m not aging in place.  Larry and I met an angel sent from the heavens a few weeks ago and we started an intense training program this week.  We started on Monday and went every morning this past week.
We start up again on Monday.  So, I’m NOT aging in place… I’m moving!  Yes, we walk the beach every day and ride our bicycles but we wanted more.
