Wordless Wednesday…Thanksgiving Leftovers Redux

It didn’t take long for us to tire of turkey, dressing, and the rest of our delicious Thanksgiving leftovers!

We’d sent guests home with doggie bags and yet we still had enough for several meals.

When in doubt… make a casserole!!! A friend made this years ago and  I decided to give it a try!!! After reading several recipes online, I threw everything together and we loved it.

Here’s a link to one of the recipes. I used leftover dressing, corn casserole, turkey, green bean casserole, cranberries, and some extra corn, and topped it with the leftover mashed potato casserole … (14 comments)

Wordless Wednesday…Stop and Breathe

This is a busy week for most of us. We’re either preparing our annual Thanksgiving dinner or planning to travel for the holiday.
We’ll have the usual crowd over on Thursday. I’m a list maker so the only way I know how to get a handle on everything is to make my list!
On our morning walk, I was focused on my list and everything I had to do. I walked past this lone beautiful red leaf on the path.

Something made me stop, turn around, and take another look at it.

It was as if Mother Nature was telling me … (14 comments)

Wordless Wednesday…That Look!

We had a small birthday celebration for my brother this weekend. His grandchildren and daughters took him to Escapology- A Live Escape Room.

Since my brother is a big Star Trek fan, they picked that room to escape from. My nieces ordered Star Trek garb for them to wear.
I love this photo of Mini-me looking up at her grandfather (my brother).

She lovingly calls him “old man” (from Last Man Standing) Think she has him wrapped around her little finger?  He recently took her to the Galleria Mall in Houston for shopping and lunch!  This from a man who has … (16 comments)

Wordless Wednesday…Down the Rabbit Hole I Went

Whether you read or listen to the news, you can’t escape the talk of AI…Artificial Intelligence. I have William Piotrowski to thank for the time I’ve spent going down the proverbial rabbit hole.

At one of our recent Zoom Calls (held on Tuesdays at 1 PM CST), William shared Lexica with us.

I prompted Lexica to search for a contemporary bedroom with high ceilings and lots of windows.

Caution…if you don’t want to risk going down this hole…feel free to stop here and move on!!!

Wordless Wednesday…Oh-To Be Carefree and Young Again!

Larry is still on top of the world after his alma mater, Kansas University, beat a then #6 ranked Oklahoma.

Hugo, our oldest grandson and a KU freshman took part in some of the post-game festivities with his fraternity brothers.

After the win, the students stormed the field and took down the goalpost. I have no idea how they divided the post but Hugo’s frat got their part and carried it back to the House,

Oh and on the way back, they took a quick swim in Potter Lake! The high in Lawrence, KS was 39 degrees!!!

Wordless Wednesday…In Their Home

One of the benefits of our morning walks is the chance to see wildlife in their home. Granted it’s often near shopping centers or busy streets but at least they’re not in a cage.

When you’re out early in the morning or before dusk you have a better chance of seeing Mother Nature’s creatures foraging for food.
We saw this sweet deer early one morning while it was down by Cypress Creek. We were far enough away so we didn’t invade his space but close enough to get this view!!

I am so grateful for the opportunities we have…even living … (18 comments)

Wordless Wednesday…Curiouser and Curiouser

Did you see the eclipse last Saturday, October 14?

Larry and I used his welding mask to watch the eclipse…it was a very slow process.

Even though the eclipse took center stage, there were other interesting things to be observed.

Our backyard menagerie…the birds and squirrels…went dark. That is to say, they were nowhere to be seen or heard.   And the air had an odd tint to it.

What struck me was the odd shadow our tree made on the driveway.
Sheri Sperry - MCNE®  saw the same shadow on an outdoor cushion. What about you? Did you notice any odd shadows? … (21 comments)

Wordless Wednesday…Getting To Know You!

Over the years, members, new and not-so-new have asked about referrals. Some join, write a post or two, and may even say something like “I’m Joe Agent, send me referrals for Muleshoe, TX.”

Yesterday at our Weekly Zoom Call (Tuesdays at 1 PM CST) our presenter was Diana Dahlberg.
While Diana has been a member for many years, I didn’t know that much about her. I’m sure I’ve commented on her posts but not regularly…and that’s on me.

It occurred to me that our Zoom Calls are an ideal way to get to know other members.  Weekly, I have the … (30 comments)

Wordless Wednesday…Don’t Drop Your Knife!

How would you like to dine 180 feet in the air overlooking the city of Delray Beach?

In 2012, Larry and I observed from ground level Dinner in the Sky. Organized by the Delray Beach Cooperative, the $ 500-a-ticket event allowed diners to be hoisted up high, and strapped into a chair like at a Disney ride.

I was standing next to a small group when the organizer announced that she had a cancellation and could take only one. A woman jumped at the chance and bid her husband and the others in her group bye-bye as she raced … (20 comments)

Wordless Wednesday…Any Idea?

Years ago when Larry and I were walking on A1A along the beach in Delray, we saw benches with these things on them.

As we walked, we came up with all kinds of wacky ideas about what they could be or why they were there.

After asking a fellow beach walker, we learned that they are skate stoppers or skate deterrents.  They are placed on benches or handrails where skateboarders like to practice their skills.

As much fun as it can be, this can also damage the surface of the bench or railing.

What about you? Have you seen these??

Wordless Wednesday…Just Passing Through

Don’t blink or you may miss the migration of the beautiful hummingbirds.   We enjoy seeing them feed at the three feeders that we have out.

There’s also fun to watch as they chase away other hummers.  We have two small feeders on our window so we can get an up-close-and-personal look at them.

You can learn more about hummingbirds and their migration patterns.

Have you seen these beautiful amazing birds???

National Read a Book Day

The ability and desire to read have always been important to me.  It goes back to my days administering psychological tests. I was floored when I learned that a great many could not read above the 3rd-grade level.

Having the ability to read opens doors for you…in your work and personal life. Books can carry you to places you may never see or light a desire in you to learn more about.

Several years ago I had the opportunity to take part in Delray Reads. There were law enforcement officers, firefighters, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles…all there to instill … (20 comments)

Wordless Wednesday…Pretty in Pink

Our walks at Green Cay Wetlands in Palm Beach County introduced me to countless wildlife…alligators, bobcats, the purple gallinule, and the roseate spoonbill.

While I love all animals (except snakes), I have a special fondness for Roseate Spoonbills. When you see one, it’s like spotting a special fairy all dressed up in pink.
These beautiful birds are found along the southeastern coastlines of Texas, Louisiana, and Florida. They are waders, foraging in shallow waters for shrimp, crayfish, crabs, minnows, mollusks, and other small fish.

If you can, take some time to enjoy the beautiful creatures Mother Nature shares with us.

The artistry that Mother Nature provides for us never ceases to amaze me. Whether it’s in the Rorschach-like clouds….

…or the fallen leaf that shouts out LOVE.

Wordless Wednesday…What’s This?

Larry and I first saw one of these in Auburn, AL when we were there for a Football game.

They make sense because when you need it…you truly need it.

If you’ve ever been on a bike ride and had to walk your bike on a long walk back to your car or home when something broke, you’ll appreciate this bike repair station!

They include Philips and Standard screwdrivers, Tire levers, headset pedal wrench, and other tools.
Have you seen any in your area?

Wordless Wednesday…Happy Birthday Future Astro

On Saturday we helped Raffe celebrate his birthday but today is the day he turns 6 years old!

It’s hard to believe that just days before Hurricane Harvey would turn Houston into one huge lake, my niece and her husband welcomed this energetic 9-day-old into their arms. We all fell in love with him immediately!

Raffe is interested in two things now…the Astros and firefighters. For his party, held in the Parish Hall of his church, we all wore our Astros attire. My brother rigged up a screen to show the Astros’ game (we lost) and there was … (17 comments)

Wordless Wednesday…Identity and Identify

There are many external factors pulling on all of us from the moment we enter this world. And, that’s not to mention the factors and characteristics we’re born with.
It’s no wonder that our young people spend much of their high school and college years trying to figure out who they are.

Add to that the recently introduced, confusing issue of pronouns.

I had to chuckle when Larry and I saw this in a parking lot…

Wordless Wednesday…Don’t Play With Your Food

How many times have you had that said to you? Oh yes, I made all kinds of designs with my spaghetti when I was a kid.

Larry and I usually have yogurt, fruit, and nuts after our morning walk.  I got bored one morning and returned to my childhood days of playing with my food.

So…next time your kids are playing with their food, be careful…you might be stifling their creativity!

Part of the secret of a success in life is to eat what you like and let the food fight it out inside.

Wordless Wednesday…Only in Texas

On our way to our morning walk last Sunday, Larry and I did a double-take.

That’s right…a horse tied up at a light pole!  (Sweet Larry knew that I’d want a picture of this so he did a U-turn and pulled in so I could get a shot )

It’s not like we’ve never seen a horse in Texas! And during the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, you’ll see not only horses but chuckwagons as well!

When we were in our first home in Houston, one of our favorite steak houses became one because when we pulled up the first time, … (19 comments)

Wordless Wednesday…The Duck Whisperer

One of the extra perks Larry and I get from walking is seeing what animals we’ll see that day.

We may see snakes (thankfully not that often), squirrels, coyotes, rabbits, and birds of all sizes.

Sunday I was taking videos of a Mallard family at Meyer Park. I began walking backward and they kept following me.  I stopped and they kept coming! When I turned around I saw my fellow walkers watching me and getting a big chuckle.

One walker called me the Duck Whisperer!!!

Love the animals: God has given them the rudiments of thought and joy untroubled.
