deb brooks: Diary of a Day of Dial-Up for Deb... - 09/19/08 11:33 AM

Diary of a Day of Dial-Up for Deb...
First of all let me just say that I am grateful to have access to the Internet right now with so many people still fighting the effects of IKE.
I am connected to a phone line that is as old as dirt in the rural area of Texas...nuff said.
I am not complaining! Really...I just want to remind all of you HIGH SPEED junkies just why you are addicted. I remember why I am!
When I signed up for Dial-Up they were calling it "Lightning Fast"...
IMHO...that is yet to be determined.

deb brooks: Ike, The Bay of Pigs and Me and Bobby MaGee... - 09/15/08 02:47 PM

Ike, The Bay of Pigs and Me and Bobby MgGee...
I do have a tendancy to become fearful of storms. Growing up just outside of Camp Atterbury as a young child caused a major impact to my personality. Camp Atterbury was being used at the time for the "test bombing" operations. We were not allowed to be on the street when they were actively bombing so when a loud siren would sound we would scatter down the street and I would immediately end up under my bed. This was the Kennedy era and we were taught to climb under our … (27 comments)

deb brooks: More Drama? Not my choice...Y---Ike. - 09/11/08 02:07 PM
Okay, I am reporting in. I'm scared. My hubby hates it when I say that. I guess it's because I've shown a sign of weakness.
We have been told by the State of Texas that we must have our cats under surveilance and in isolation for the next 65 days. For more information read my post titles, Drats, Cats, and bats.
1. Two cats had run out of their 3 year rabies certificate two weeks before a rabid bat showed up on our front porch. Therefore, by the state they must be isolated for 90 days.
2. We probably should have … (47 comments)

deb brooks: Yike, now comes Ike...PLEASE TAKE CARE... - 09/10/08 04:27 PM
Yike, now comes Ike...Yuk. Please take care if you are in the wake of Ike...please.
What is it? Is mom nature upset with us? Do we seem too lethargic or overly confident within our mortality? What?
Here comes another and I CAN'T STAND IT!!!!
Okay, I have a generator and gas now. What the hell do we do with that?
I pray there are no more casualties from anymore storms for many years...it doesn't hurt to pray.
God Bless you all and do what you can to remain safe....
If you need me or any other AR member....please just call. … (17 comments)

deb brooks: When the going gets tough the investors buy. - 09/10/08 02:51 PM
SMART INVESTMENTS.
When the going gets tough the investors buy.Have you read Rich Dad's series written by Robert Kiyosaki? It's amazing and profitable. What I can find by his teachings is that they are governed by YOUR states' mandates. He and his wife Kim are great. They are a success story from the heavens. They are people that you want to aspire to be like.
They teach you how they became rich. I am not one of their REPRESENTATIVES.  I just read it. It' worthy. It will teach you. I am simply a voluntary student. My husband pushed the books on me. Now … (7 comments)

deb brooks: 5 Reasons Why Loans Go Awry at the 11th Hour - 09/07/08 02:35 PM
David Garcia has helped me with a very difficult situation and has earned my business. I recommend him to all of you that need "special" attention and a gentleman to cover the details.
Our mortgage market is turbulent at the least.

deb brooks: The Wealth of Points - 09/06/08 07:39 PM
Localism.
It is new and shiny and ready to go. Are you ready? I am. I like the look and I think I will post more than ever! The idea of being the "neighborhood specialist" is really appealing! Although, I work a lake of more than 50 active waterfront subdivisions I will enjoy the new Localism and take full advantage of the source!
Imagine if we could "get to know our neighbors" over the net just as we learn about each other over AR and other sources? From what I heard the old Localism had thousands of hits per month. I … (68 comments)

deb brooks: Create a Man Cave! - 09/06/08 08:21 AM

The magic formula for making Real Estate sell is becoming an art. With the market tightening it's time to pull out all the stops.
Staging is becoming an incredibly popular "science" to optimize any space to become more appealing to the buyers. If your property already has the selling benefits for the wife...
Ie: Great Kitchen, Big Baths and large closets then you're more than halfway there. The female gets a strong vote when buying a home!
Create a Man Cave and help to seal the deal. Having a great garage or separate environment for the guys is a always a … (14 comments)

deb brooks: Drats, Cats and Bats! - 09/04/08 02:34 PM
I've had a really interesting week. I'm pooped. I'm going to try to make this blurb short. I found a dead bat on my porch a week ago Friday night.
Hubby and I, out of responsible citizenry, decided we should bag it and take it to the City. We did. All our cats (4) were sitting around looking at the dead "thing" and we assumed one of them delivered it to us.
That next Monday morning we delivered it to the City headquarters. We received a call today saying, "please quarantine your pets...
That bat tested POSITIVE FOR RABIES.
Yeah, for … (24 comments)

deb brooks: Did You Ever Stop To Think And Then Forget To Start Again? - 08/31/08 07:05 AM

Dear Diary,
I believe that's what has happened to me. Quite by accident though. My lovely daughter and Office Manager for the last two years has just left our Brokerage.
 Ouch.
Bragging rights allow me to say that she is one of the brightest, gregarious, responsible, thoughtful and proficient people I have ever known. She holds a BA in Accounting and married a man that owns his own accounting firm here in Huntsville.
I didn't stand a chance in keeping her! When she left last week...
I intentionally turned my brain off.
I didn't want to feel the pains of … (23 comments)

deb brooks: I get to meet Sondra Meyer on Tuesday! - 08/30/08 04:53 PM
See this pretty lady? Her name is Sondra Meyer and she is out of College Station, Texas.
I just wanted to brag a bit and let everyone know that Sondra and I will be having lunch in College Station on Tuesday!
I have a silly Doctor's appointment there...in fact my entire insurance plan is built around College Station and I now have a reason to look forward to seeing the Doctor!
I will get to see my Sondra too! Yee haa! One of these days she is going to take me horse back riding...hopefully in the fall when it cools down.

deb brooks: Be Prepared...Not Scared - 08/30/08 11:58 AM

Hurricanes are a unique animal in my book. I've seen tornados, tropical storms, hail storms,  wind storms, snow storms and others.
I am in the preparation stages for our own Gustav. I want every one close to please take this to heart. The loss and devestation of the last several hurricanes will be felt for generations. New Orleans and its people are just beginning to breathe again after Katrina.
Being just one hour north of Houston I was able to donate my time to help with the misplaced families and survivors of Katrina. I felt their pain and watched them … (13 comments)

deb brooks: Making Ready For Gustav... - 08/30/08 07:43 AM
For the last three years I have promised myself that I would buy a generator and gas cans "just in case". When Rita ripped up the southern coast we were without electricity for 5 days...It was 108 degrees in my home. My carpet all buckled from the heat and humidity.
We couldn't go anywhere as the gas stations were out of gas locally and the traffic was at a dead stop. A stop to the point that people were passing away in their cars from no relief.
We still don't know where he will hit but I am praying for Lisa … (17 comments)

What does a Realtor and an Ostrich Have in Common? Huntsville Texas can answer that!
Texas rural roads are an interesting drive. Here in Walker County we have wildlife on the ground like we have birds in the air! Lots of wildlife...did I mention lots and lots? Yes, bunches. I was returning from a home tour out by the lake and had the pleasure of driving back from the Lake Livingston area on Hwy 980. Our National Forest and highly protected area is thousands of acres along this road. It's a very beautiful drive.
I was coming around the corner when … (33 comments)

The Beatles Were Marvelous Dahling...
They were simply wrong...
Now, when I was 7 years old it seems they knew exactly what they were talking (singing) about. Everything that came from their guitars and wonderful angelic voices meant the world to me. I lived, breathed, hummed, swung, and did the mashed potato to the Beatles. Truth be known I don't know what the mashed potato is but it sounds cool. I do remember the twist. It was a few years before me but I won a contest or two with it! Man,could I dance!
I've always felt that I missed the "meat" … (12 comments)

deb brooks: I Want To Say Thank You! - 08/23/08 10:26 AM

We must take the steps each day to accompany our positive attitudes.
This includes acting and reacting in ways that may be foreign to our natures.
We must learn the words, "thank you". And, we should use them in abundance.
In my opinion there are no bad days. My days are good or great. Those are my choices.
If we adopt the positive attitude, the attitude of gratitude, and the will to work to make our days great, we will all find a wonderful today and tomorrow.
What you believe will be, will be. Create a great reality!

deb brooks: Positively Negative...or, Negatively Positive? - 08/23/08 09:39 AM
Most of us have heard of the supposedly new "Secret".  "The Secret," written by Rhonda Byrne is a worthwhile book to read.
I don't think it was necessarily written to tell us something that we had never heard but more to reiterate the lessons we have been taught during our lifetimes.  It was written to connect all the "dots" we have learned during our time on this earth.
Such is written in our very own Ethics of Realtors. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you".  The world wants you to understand that you can create your own reality.  If … (17 comments)

deb brooks: When The Going Gets Tough....The Tough Must Advertise...Look To Localism. - 08/16/08 03:57 PM
HOW CAN I MAKE IT THROUGH A REAL ESTATE DOWNTURN??
Yes, it's true. The sheer number of us Realtors that fall by the wayside on a normal daily basis is astronomical. Agents are dropping like flies.
The top 5% of the nations Realtors make up 80% of the nations Real Estate Business.  You've heard the old adage: It takes money to make money??? Well, this is where it applies.
Except, with these phenomenal media exposure tools called Active Rain and Localism.
Are you taking advantage of it? I have discovered that whatever I say on Active Rain is actually READ!

deb brooks: How To Look Good Naked! - 08/12/08 03:46 PM
How To Look Good Naked! Is a program I just watched and am so impressed with I can't even express it.
The entire show is based upon gaining self esteem.
I laughed at it when I saw the preview and scoffed its usefulness...
It is useful.
It was brilliant.
It took two young women that didn't feel so great about themselves and made them see themselves the way the rest of the world sees them. We (the world) see them as beautiful, young, vibrant, intelligent and persuasive young women! What more can you ask for?
Perfection?
In whose eyes? Don't … (25 comments)

1965, Dairy Queen and Cherry Coke
Dear Diary,
I will never forget this day. It was in the summer of 1965 and I was a child. My mom treated me to an old fashioned (new then) Drive Inn lunch. We just left one of my swimming meets and I was starving or so I thought.  I can close my eyes and remember where we parked, what the whole scene looked like and how I felt. I was young, energetic and felt as if the world would last forever. Mom looks so young in my memory and her smile lit up my … (31 comments)
