family: Exhausted! Hungry! & Happy! - 10/24/12 10:04 AM
I think I will sleep like a baby tonight.  Today I spent about 5 straight hours pressure washing the entire front of my office and then the screened porch on the back.  Plus, I also cleaned all the patio furniture.  We're hosting a trick or treat for children next week and I wanted to make sure the office looked nice and the steps weren't slippery.  And I even cleaned a rug... who knew you could clean a rug SO well with a pressure washer?
I'm am totally exhausted.  And of course this would be the day that my Donald worked late … (15 comments)

family: A Grandmother story.... - 09/29/12 03:26 AM
I've pondered all day wondering which of my humorous moments or childhood memories to share with you about my Grandmother.  I can't really decide.  So I'll talk about a few of them.
I remember that I used to get to sit in my Papa's recliner in the afternoon.  (this would have been when I was too young to be in school) and my grandmother would watch her "stories".  That's when I got to know all the folks on As The World Turns and Guiding Light.  I was so sad when each of those shows ended.  My Grandmother would watch with her … (18 comments)

family: My Donald never fails to amaze me - 09/06/12 02:31 PM
We went on a road trip yesterday and when we headed home we needed to stop for gas.  When we turned into the gas station there was a truck we could barely get around blocking the driveway.  I stayed in the car and Donald got out to pump the gas.  Then he popped into the store to find out who's truck.  As it turned out it was a young girl and she simply was out of gas.  Yup, out of gas in the driveway of a gas station. It was up hill from the street to the pump.  But that didn't … (21 comments)

family: Serendipity- the happy accident that is my life! - 04/20/12 05:10 AM
Serendipity the movie:   Synopsis: After the long-delayed Town and Country, director Peter Chelsom turns in his second 2001 effort with this love-at-first-sight romantic comedy that revolves around fate, destiny, and chance. Jonathan (John Cusack) and Sara (Kate Beckinsale) are two New Yorkers already in relationships when they meet one another, each reaching for the last pair of cashmere gloves at a department store. Over coffee, they strike up an intimate conversation, and Jonathan thinks they should see each other again. Unconvinced, Sara arranges an elaborate series of "fate" games; if they're meant to be together, she reasons, she and Jonathan will receive … (21 comments)

family: Merry Christmas from me - 12/24/11 08:18 AM
There was a time when I used to work on Christmas.  A time before 1988.  But having children changes Christmas.  This will be the first Christmas that I won't have my baby girl home all snug in her bed.  But the fact that she's working for someone who does have children makes me proud of her.
Then there is my Uncle Eugene, his youngest son Kaleb will be spending Christmas in Afghanistan.  I hope he'll be safe and home soon.  And my guess is that many of you reading this will wake up on Christmas morning away from someone you love … (12 comments)

family: First priority- Family, family always comes first. - 10/08/11 10:39 AM
I am a real estate broker and I own my own firm and when I am working I dedicate myself to the task at hand.  And in the down turn in the market I spent more hours working for less money.  But when I have seen many of my colleagues close their doors and even some loose their homes I have continued to have success.  I credit that success to my ability to adapt and change with both technology and the market.  My family, perhaps, has missed me the past four years and so I finally arranged a two week vacation.  … (52 comments)

family: Speechless ( nah) Sunday- it's history... my history - 09/04/11 03:22 PM

I'm looking for photos of my old "house"  Not a house I ever made a payment on, but one that I called home for many years.  One that I laughed, cried, celebrated, became a teenager, dressed for prom... home.
Yesterday I went to visit my parents in their new home for dinner.  And the only thing left of that home in this photo is the brick foundation and on three sides of that are left.  My parents built a new home... right in the back yard and tore down the old one.  New home is bigger, nicer, has basement... it's beautiful … (19 comments)

family: ActiveRain turned 5.... but My baby turned 23 today. - 06/20/11 01:59 PM

From a little chatty child who loved to talk on the phone to the big girl who bought her first care last week.  I cannot imagine where the 23 years slipped away too.  Too fast she was crawling, then walking, then came kindergarten which went with the blink of an eye.  Next thing I knew there was the first school dance.... oh boy.  Then high school and driving, then graduation and college.  Now she's working as an EMT and will be back in school in a couple of months too.
I'm very happy to say we are still really close … (24 comments)

family: She'll be wanting to buy her own house next... - 06/12/11 09:07 AM
I can remember this day like it was yesterday.  My little Abigail was just thrilled to have that first car.  The one that was powered by the Flintstones method.  (stopped that way too).
I also remember the first time I rode with her.  Right down the middle of the road we went the day she got her learners permit.  Looking back I'm not sure how I coped.  Then came the first car... the used VW Passat.  For 16 months it was loved.  Then poof in an instant it was totaled.  And when replacement time came since I couldn't get a tank … (14 comments)

family: Happy Birthday My Donald, I love you. - 03/02/11 03:13 PM
It is my Donald's birthday today.  I hope I made it a wonderful day for him because he's made it a wonderful life for me.
We both had to work today, although his "work" today was a day of in service education so he actually got to leave for lunch.  That was a real treat.  I managed to sneak away for a little over an hour and drive to town and have lunch with him.  We had lunch at our favorite Japanese Grill (Little Tokyo).  The food was good, but getting to have lunch with my husband on a work day... … (20 comments)

family: Thankful Thursday- a day in my life as wife and mother! - 10/28/10 06:21 PM
From time to time I've written posts about how crazy and complicated the life of a broker/owner can be with all the ends and outs of real estate in today's market.  In fact I have to say this is the year with the highest percentage of complications, most contract extensions and lost deals.  But this post... is about my life away from the office.
Our home life has been a little hectic lately.  First of all, we have a blended family.  You know a married couple with his and her children.  My daughter just recently moved back home.  Not completely as … (30 comments)

family: Another goal met, more to come... - 09/19/10 05:15 PM
As a single mom for 14 years, I always felt one of the most important things I could give my daughter was confidence.  I started early and maybe to a fault, telling my daughter she was smart, beautiful and could do ANYTHING if she was willing to work for it.  And I want to share with you just a few things about Abigail that perhaps I've not shared with you before and then tell you about this week and how very proud I am of her.
Rescue 911, hosted by William Shatner that began before my daughter's first birthday and ended … (21 comments)

family: If you look closely you can feel the love. - 03/18/09 09:22 AM
For those of you who read my posts you understand that family is the most important part of my life.  My parents who have been married for 45 years are two of the best people I know.  They taught me right from wrong, raised me in this wonderful small town that I love and have continued to support me through all the ups and downs I've had in my life.  Yesterday was my birthday and my parents took Donald and I out to dinner and gave me a beautiful gift.  It's something I will treasure for every single day for the … (32 comments)

family: Happy Veteran's Day Daddy, I love you! - 11/11/08 05:38 AM
My Daddy is my Hero.  Today is veterans day and for more reasons that one, it makes me think about my daddy.  My dad was in the Navy.  He joined right after high school and for the next 4 years while my mom finished high school and went to college for two years they had a long distance romance.  Sometimes across most of the world. Nine years ago we had a scare with my daddy having cancer.  In fact, his surgery was 11/11/99.  9 years ago today.  My dad was born in 1940 to a farmer and raised on a family … (25 comments)

family: 90 years of actual experience & the lessons I take from them. - 11/06/08 10:53 AM
This beautiful lady is my Grandmother.  And that's what I call her... Grandmother.  She was born the in March the year World War I ended.  That makes her older than Bubble Gum, Frozen foods, disposable diapers, women's right to vote in this country, chocolate chip cookies, photo copiers, polio vaccines, lasers, nuclear submarines, calculators, product bar codes, cell phones, microwaves.
Can you imagine life without chocolate chip cookies?
My Grandmother was my caregiver while my parents both worked when I was small.  I like to tell a story about her sending me out to get my own switch for a spanking.  … (15 comments)

family: "Mom, kroger sells that for $2.00" - 10/11/08 02:33 PM
My daughter called me from college day before yesterday.  When I answered she asked me what I was doing
When I told her I was making apple Jelly, she told me they sell that at kroger.
Was I making apple jelly to save money?  Well no I wasn't.
Let's take a step back to about 1975.  I remember shelling peas and snapping string beans until well after my thumbs hurt and thinking to myself... they sell this stuff at Big Star, what are my parents thinking.
Well in the early 80's when I stepped out into this big world with a … (15 comments)

family: This is very conflicting! - 10/05/08 05:56 AM
Last year in an effort to have more in common with my husband... who allows me to drag him to chic flicks and watches Lifetime movies with me occassionally I decided we'd have a season long pick the winner of football games contest.  I don't know much about football.  I love baseball and I love nascar, but have really never been a fan of football.  (College teams excluded)
Last year my husband stomped my behind.  I'm not even going to tell you the numbers... they were so bad.
So this year... I'm ahead.  I've learned a little and made choices based … (7 comments)
