nar convention: rebarcamp Atlanta, 2011... Coming up SOON! - 10/19/11 09:32 AM
Less than 10 days from now, Atlanta will have its second rebarcamp event.
If you haven't been to one of the rebarcamp (rebc) events around the country, you REALLY need to change that.  rebc events are billed as the "unconference".  Unlike a traditional conference, there aren't a bunch of vendors running sessions that are thinly disguised sales pitches... and sometimes they aren't even thinly disguised.  If you've ever been to the NAR Convention, you know exactly what I'm talking about.  It seems like every "education" seminar ends with "and you can get my DVD set at booth 347, for just $199."

nar convention: To require registration or Not require registration... Not - 11/19/08 03:07 PM
One of the more interesting (and repeated) debates/discussions/arguments at the Bloodhound Unchained conference had to do with property search registration... and whether to require it or not.
In this and the last post I am going to explore and debate myself about the pros and cons of each side of this question.
Requiring registration for property searches is a crappy idea...
EVERY real estate website now has an IDX (MLS access).  Requiring a buyer to give up personal information is not a valid strategy.  All it will do is drive buyers away from your website and kill any relationship you might … (19 comments)

Registration requirements for search are a great idea...
Let's think about this for a minute.  THE single most valuable thing that we have as real estate agents is the IDX (or whatever method we use to allow MLS searches).  What consumers want is to be able to see listings.  … (10 comments)

nar convention: I'm baaacckkkk! - 11/13/08 02:01 AM
I know that some of you missed me.  Others were hoping that I lost my laptop.  Well. I'm back.
While we had made plans to have internet access at the townhome we rented, we didn't actually have access except through mobile phone modems.  They were amazingly slow.  So, there weren't comments and posts as scheduled.  Sorry.
But, as of last night we are back in town, more tired than when we left, and recharged.  Disney World says Hi...
I will be writing about Bloodhound Unchained, as well as stuff I learned on the floor of the NAR Convention EXPO.  I will … (14 comments)

nar convention: Web 2.0 and Social Network Marketing Panel Discussion at NAR... - 11/03/08 08:36 AM
There is a reason I moved to Diamond Dwellings...
Ok, think of this...  Get some RE.net heavy hitters together.  People like Jeff Turner and Teresa Boardman, Cindy Haydon and Ines Hegedus-Garcia.  Toss in a broker that is in love with Web 2.0 Techology and Social Network Marketing for real estate... and then let the questions fly.
Matt Fagioli (the aforementioned broker) has done just that.  And it will be at 11:00 on Saturday at the EXPO at the NAR Convention in Orlando.  You don't even need a full event pass... just the EXPO pass.
We will be talking about Twitter, Flickr, … (7 comments)

nar convention: Ok, let's have it... Who is going to NAR? - 11/03/08 08:03 AM
I know that there are scores of us going down for NAR in Orlando... some of us might even make it to the convention for a few minutes...
So, give it up... who is going to be there?
I will be htting Orlando Wednesday evening dragging along the two most adorable little boys around, as well as their groovy Mom.  We will be hitting Disney parks on Thursday & Sunday-Tuesday.
I will be at Bloodhound Unchained on Friday... all day.  I am looking forward to BU in a BIG way.  It will be an incredible event with a LOAD of information … (11 comments)

nar convention: Going to NAR in Orlando? - 09/02/08 05:41 PM
Yes and no...
I knew this would happen.  Being in Orlando, this year, with me in Atlanta, it is only a short drive away (yes, I call 10 hours a short drive).  Also, being in Orlando, I was pretty sure that "I" would not be going... it would be "we."  Also, I knew that if "we" went, that "we" would be going to DisneyWorld.  In the last case, "we" meant "them."
I got into real estate because I love being with my family.  I was in retail previously, and worked 12 hours a day, 6 days a week... somewhere else.  Now, … (46 comments)

nar convention: FMLS Showcase... Who's going? - 08/17/08 12:49 PM
It is that time of year again... FMLS Showcase at Galleria.
Anyone planning on going?
I'm going to be there.  I think a few more of the Diamond Dwellings team will be in the house...  But, what about the other 44,982 real estate agents in Atlanta.  We have a few hundred listed here on Active|Rain...
Maybe we can do an impromptu A|R gathering...
Sure, we won't have Jon, Bob, Matt, Rich or even Brad... but we can still get together for lunch at Jocks & Jills or the Subway in the food court... hang out for a little bit... meet in … (10 comments)

nar convention: New pricing model - 11/14/07 01:20 AM
I'm still out here at the National Association of REALTORS(R) Convention in Las Vegas. So far, it has been a pretty cool experience. Sorry I don't have any pictures, I actually have carried my digital camera with me everywhere... but I haven't even seen the strip. So, what interesting stuff is here for consumers? Just about nothing. But, as a REALTOR(R) there have been quite a few interesting revelations. One thing I can say for sure is that I have found a new pricing model that has amazing potential. CMAs (Comparative Market Analysis) look to be a thing of the past … (2 comments)
