luxury marketing: Luxury Outdoor Decor: Living Art Display for the Great Outdoors - 07/13/14 09:06 AM

We stopped in at Island View, our favorite nursery in Carpinteria, when it comes to exotic plants and great ideas.  This was hanging on a shady wall, and we loved the artistic feeling of it.  It would brighten up any shady spot.
Wishing you a great week,

luxury marketing: Luxury Real Estate Branding Tips: Define What You Stand For! - 02/11/14 05:03 AM

In branding and marketing yourself as a luxury real estate marketing professional it is important to declare what you stand for.  The optimal way to do that is to state it in a clear straightforward manner. People like doing business with people who are like themselves. Your statement of what you stand for can often be the deciding factor when it comes to choosing one agent/company over another.

luxury marketing: Luxury Real Estate Branding Tips: Why and How StandOuts Thrive! #3 - 02/07/14 02:40 AM

In our first post, we identified that the first course of action was to find the under-served market niche. In our second post we emphasized studying the under served market niche.
The third course of action is to develop your primary strategic differentiator. You must differentiate oneself from the competitive landscape by being uniquely different, both in presentation and service.  Many of our restaurants here in Santa Barbara, are proponents of farm to table, great service, and good food.

Although, The Lark offers a distinctly different menu from any other restaurant in Santa Barbara, they have an extraordinary strategic … (13 comments)

Privacy is a luxury.  Here are some ways that you can insure it, at least for yourself.
According to a CNN article, we discovered that Internet “BIG” Data Mining & Brokering companies now represents “a $300 billion-a-year business that employs 3 million people in the United States alone” according to McKinsey Global Institute.  Focusing more on big data is most likely an important reason for merger talks between the 2nd and 3rd largest global advertising firms, so they can better compete with the likes of Google and Facebook—the biggest aggregators of personal information on earth.

luxury marketing: Speechless Sunday: Teddy Bear Sunflowers-the Joy of Summer - 08/04/13 01:03 AM

Sunflowers are so beautiful, and their intense yellow color announce summer.  We noticed these fluffy balls of yellow among the usual sunflowers at the Farmers Market, and I asked if these were sunflowers.  The vendor said, "They are teddy bear sunflowers."

In this photo you can see that they definitely are different than their cousins with the wide open face.  They look like a big ball with a small hollow of seeds.  These flowers exude the joy of summer.
Happy Sunday everyone!  Cheers, Ron & Alexandra Seigel

luxury marketing: Saturday Smiles: Fig Checkerboard - 08/03/13 01:31 PM

Figs are a wonderful summer fruit often overshadowed by all the other fruits of the season.  When I was a little girl in Beirut, the corner of our garden had a big fig tree.  It was a wonderful tree easy to climb.  I loved sitting there watching the world and eating figs.  This farmer at the Santa Barbara market really did a great job displaying them.
In Italy, they are often served as an appetizer with fresh prosciutto sliced thinly over them.  The sweet and savory combination is wonderful.
Wishing you a Happy Weekend with lots of smiles, Cheers, Ron … (12 comments)

luxury marketing: Marketing Luxury Real Estate: Saturday Smiles What a Tomato! - 08/03/13 05:49 AM

Although we arrived early at the Santa Barbara Farmers Market, it was teeming with local and tourists who are here for the Fiesta Week.  Parade goers  had pretty much commandeered the lot we usually parking, and had staked their places 2 blocks down where the second Fiesta Parade was taking place. One of the stars of the market today were the tomatoes from Roots Farm.  The cherry tomatoes were beautifully displayed with purple basil on one side and green on the other.

Roots'Farm tomatoes are dry farmed which means:",a type of farming practiced in arid areas without irrigation by … (10 comments)

luxury marketing: Marketing Luxury: Historical Santa Barbara County/Friday Fun - 08/02/13 07:28 AM

Walk in to the Union Hotel and Saloon built in 1880, in Los Alamos and you are transported to the days of yore.  It looks like the set of a Western film.  It is a small hotel with 14 rooms decorated in the style of the 1800's. The saloon to the left of entrance features the local wines and microbrews and good local food.
It is a good place to stay when visiting the Central wine country regions.
Happy Friday, Cheers, Ron & Alexandra

luxury marketing: Luxury Brand Strategy: How to Find out What Google Knows About You - 08/01/13 05:17 AM

The privacy debate rages on.  In yesterday’s a Wall Street Journal article, titled, Google’s Data-Trove Dance Internal Debates Over Using Collected Information and Protecting Privacy, journalist Amir Efraty notes,
“The breadth of Google's information gathering about Internet users rivals that of any single entity, government or corporate. The Web search and advertising giant continues to expand its collection and analysis of data, turning its mission to index the world, its people and their interests into a roughly $50 billion-a-year advertising business”.
Here is how you can you find out, what Google knows about you.  Thanks to Tom Gara, WSJ journalist … (88 comments)

luxury marketing: Santa Barbara Lifestyle: Old Spanish Days Week- Flamenco or Flamingo? - 07/31/13 02:43 AM

Yesterday, after lunch we came upon this flamenco event at the Paseo Nuevo (our shopping center) in Santa Barbara, featuring the students of flamenco of all ages from the Linda Vega studio.  In honor of Old Spanish Days week, Flamenco celebrations are being presented all over Santa Barbara, including all the retirement homes.

Flamenco is a dance which originated in Andalusia (Southern Spain) accompanied by singing, guitar playing and handclapping.  It is a sexy, sultry and passionate dance. The dance is inspired by the movements of the flamingo courtship.  Flamenco as a dance has grown in global popularity.  There … (14 comments)

luxury marketing: Santa Barbara Lifestyle at the Blue Owl: Do You Speak Bahn Mi? - 07/30/13 02:07 PM

It was time for a lunch break today.  We decided to head out to the Blue Owl, An Asian America Eating House, on 5 Canon Perdido, in the heart of Santa Barbara's downtown.  The Blue Owl is open on Tuesday-Friday 11AM to 3PM.  On Friday evening they are open from 10PM to 2:30AM, and Saturday 10AM to 3PN and 10PM to 2:30AM.
One of our favorites is the pork Banh Mi, pictured below.  A Bahn Mi is a Vietnamese baguette Sandwich.  Here is a great description I found on Battle of the Banh Mi:

MEERKAT SURVEILLANCE TEAM
Personal privacy on the Internet is one of the most important topics in current events today.   Is privacy truly the new luxury expenditure?  Would you pay for a subscription to Google or the social media platforms if your privacy was guaranteed, and all ads were on an opt-in basis? Or would you hire a pair of meerkats?

  Mining Your Personal Data
In Part 1, we discussed the effects of digital footprints or tattoos, and the impact of “free” usage of social media.  Here is the latest way to mine your data by Facebook.
As companies are reporting earnings for the last quarter, it is important to note that Facebook’s earnings have improved because companies are willing to spend money advertising on the social network.  Facebook has recently expanded its mobile ad strategies by spending time with its potential ad buyers and listening to what they need and want.
The facts are that marketing budgets are eager … (15 comments)

luxury marketing: Luxury Real Estate Website Design: The Magic of Quality Cues - 01/03/13 01:57 AM

Courtesy of Apple
One of components of our Strategic Brand Analysis that we perform for each of our luxury real estate marketing clients is an audit or review of their current websites and those of their direct competitors. Among many factors, we look for what we call “quality cues”, those small details that add up to a remarkable user experience. Dropping the ball with quality cues is often where complacent market leaders become vulnerable.
We cannot overemphasize the significance of quality cues, as they help to capture leads. And, they are also the sparks that trigger word-of-mouth advertising or … (14 comments)

Ron and I love these big boulders on the beach on Sandyland Beach in Carpinteria.  They support mussels and other bivalves, and the crabs that hide among them.  Wishing you all a delightful Wednesday and a great start on 2013.

luxury marketing: Happy New Year: Another Fresh New Year is Here - 01/01/13 08:07 AM

Ron and I found this poem, Another Fresh New Year is here, by William Arthur Ward, who was a teacher and a scholar.  It really sets the tome for 2013, as we begin a short week of work.  We wish you all a wonderful year ahead and may all your wishes be realized!
Another fresh new year is here . . . Another year to live! To banish worry, doubt, and fear, To love and laugh and give! This bright new year is given me To live each day with zest . . . To daily grow and try to … (20 comments)

luxury marketing: Luxury Real Estate Marketing Tip: Life is What You Make of It - 12/30/12 11:36 PM

One of the great poets/songwriters of our time is Paul Simon.  His genius is getting under your skin with words that appear to be non-sequitur (out of context).  But somehow, the meaning comes through and moves you, profoundly.
This New Year’s Eve, when many are making resolutions, the lyrics of one of his most recent great songs, So Beautiful or So What (April 8, 2011) inspired us. He felt it was his best work 20 years. And, we wanted to share it with you.  We believe deeply that life is truly what you make of it.

luxury marketing: May You Stay Forever Young; The Sentiment Holds Up Today - 12/30/12 07:18 AM

On December 30, 2009,  we wrote a blog post calling " May You Stay Forever Young, The Ultimate Luxury" as an to inspiration to welcome 2010.  We think the sentiment and the words by Bob Dylan are valid today as we end 2012 are a classic. Here are the words written for the album Planet Waves, in 1974.  This is one of the few songs that Dylan recorded in one take.  In his book, he recalled how everything aligned perfectly for this creative opus.

luxury marketing: Marketing Luxury Real Estate: The Face of Envy-World Class - 12/29/12 12:10 PM

We woke up to pouring rain this morning, which meant our plans to the Santa Barbara Farmers' Market were cancelled. However, we went to one of our favorite markets, Gelson's to pick  organic apples and vegetables.  As we wre looking at the beautiful display of apples, I spotted apples, named Envy!  Envy? I said to Ron.  The lady next to me piped up and said, "Try a sample, they are really good!"  So we did, and they are amazingly delicious.
According to envy.com, "When New Zealand's passionate apple researchers brought together the best features of Braeburn and Royal Gala in … (12 comments)
