luxury real estate websites: Marketing Your Luxury Real Estate Practice: What is Your 2014 Vision? - 12/02/13 02:01 AM

Vision without action is a daydream.  Action without Vision is a nightmare.  (Japanese proverb)
Have you taken the time to daydream and create your vision for marketing your luxury real estate practice in 2014? Think of a vision like the picture on the box of a jigsaw puzzle.  Inside the box are all the pieces that will create that picture.  Once put together the pieces (representing the action) will duplicate the picture on the box.
Be sure you love and are passionate about your daydream/vision, or else the actions needed are often abandoned like New Years’ resolutions.  Take the … (13 comments)

luxury real estate websites: Speechless Sunday: You Gotta to Have Heart--Here's Sadie - 12/01/13 12:05 AM

On our walks on Sandyland Beach in Carpinteria, we often meet dogs and their owners.  Usually the dogs come over to check us out, or drop a ball at our feet for us to toss.  This beautiful Brittany Spaniel just came to be loved.

Her owner explained that when she walked in to the breeder's home it was just for a visit.  She was NOT going to buy another dog, until she saw Sadie's heart on her head.  And at that moment her checkbook came out, and Sadie was hers.
We would have undoubtedly done the same thing...

luxury real estate websites: Saturday Smiles: Long Stemmed Artichokes & Snow Pea Leaves! - 11/30/13 03:09 AM

Today, the Santa Barbara Farmers market was relatively quiet.  Some of the farmers took a well deserved weekend off.  These long stemmed artichoke are  beautiful. Many people don't realize that the stems can be eaten separately after you peel them, and they have a sweet nutty flavor.  Or cook them with the artichoke, if you wish.

Snow pea leaves are considered by the Chinese a delicacy, and it is according to our palates. They can easily be sauteed in a wok with finely minced garlic and ginger, and a touch of wine.
Wishing everyone a wonderful Saturday!

luxury real estate websites: Marketing Luxury Real Estate: After the Storm - 11/29/13 12:37 PM

We had a rain storm last night and early this morning.  Around noon the clouds drifted to let in the sunlight.  It was our cue to take a long walk at the beach.  The above shows uprooted kelp.  These roots as well as the leaves support all kinds of life, from mollusks to coral.

On this close up of the uprooted coral above, the white and burgundy strands attached to the roots are the beginings of coral.  Storms are a way for the ocean to cull the kelp beds.
Wishing you lots of Saturday Smiles, Cheers, Ron & … (20 comments)

luxury real estate websites: Marketing Luxury Real Estate: Walt's Cheesecake Recipe - 11/28/13 11:45 PM

Last week, I tried a New York style cheesecake recipe that was a disaster.  I was talking to our friend Walt, wine and food expert, and he gave me this recipe assuring me it was easy, delicious (more New York style) and memorable...And he was right.

Turn oven to 300
Graham Crackers

3 large eggs at room temperature
1 can of Borden's sweetened milk
Juice of two lemons

luxury real estate websites: Marketing Luxury Real Estate: Clear Day on a Cloudless Wednedsday - 11/27/13 11:42 AM

Noon signaled low tide at the beach today...It was a great day to go for a walk on Sandyland Beach in Carpinteria.  A lot of out of towners were picking up shells, and enjoying themselves.  We saw our favorite seal (we have named her Louseal) who shows up regularly.  Quite often, when she catches a fish, she will flip it up before taking a bite...and the dolphins were swimming close to shore much to the delight of the onlookers...
What a perfect way to experience Thanksgiving eve...we are thankful for the sites that we see daily, the people who surrounds … (10 comments)

luxury real estate websites: Wordless Wednesday: Beach Butterflies - 11/13/13 08:25 AM

Ron and I love picking up these shells on Sandyland Beach in Carpinteria.  They look like butterflies in the sand. Both sides are still attached, which means these were opened recently by the various birds.  Sandpipers and the curlews dig in the sand for them.  The colors are varied, and we are always delighted to see a new variation.
Do you think they look like butterflies?
Happy Wednesday, Cheers, Ron & Alexandra

luxury real estate websites: Luxury Real Estate Marketing Tip: Concierge Service or Lip Service? - 11/12/13 11:43 PM

“Concierge Service” is a term that we advise luxury real estate marketing professionals against using when describing their own level of service because the term is so often misused. Unless you hire a highly trained professional concierge to offer authentic concierge services to our clients, you will just be offering lip service to those who know the difference.
For example, Target, the massive discount chain is deploying beauty concierges” to sell cosmetics in 300 of their stores by year's end, according to Wall Street Journal.  Concierge service or lip service?
Nordstrom’s has a completely different approach.  They call … (15 comments)

luxury real estate websites: Real Estate Marketing Tip: When Dishing, Focus on Heroes, Not Zeroes! - 11/11/13 11:15 PM

All professions have tabloid style of stories to tell, and dish about.   However, the stories that make the headlines in the tabloids or the legitimate press are not the only the stories that should be told.  We think the untold story that inquiring minds should hear about are the tales of the heroic gestures that agents often make on behalf of their clients, which go undisclosed.  Here is one of our favorites.
A luxury real estate marketing professional sold a magnificent estate.  The negotiated deal included the majority of the furnishings as well as a piece of art, a serigraph. … (38 comments)

luxury real estate websites: A Quiet Day: Just Ducky at the Beach! - 11/11/13 06:32 AM

Cooler days thin out the Sandyland beach in Carpinteria even on a gorgeous sunny holiday.  We love joining the hearty locals walking their dogs and the fishermen who were having a great day, catching perch.
We noticed this black tern (sea duck) taking a step towards the water. He waited for the wave to roll in so he did not have to work so hard.  Now, it was obvious to me, what it means to be like a duck in water.  You just wait for the wave to take you on in.  We think there is inherent wisdom in that!

luxury real estate websites: Maketing Luxury Real Estate: Sand Castle - 11/11/13 01:25 AM

This home with its distinct Moorish inspired architecture on Sandyland Beach in  was built as a compound for a large family, one of the locals told us.  Now it has been subdivided into condos, and the last one that was for sale was listed at $7 million.  What a lovely spot to view the world from.  Wishing you all a delightful Veteran's Day.
Cheers Ron & Alexandra

luxury real estate websites: Speechless Sunday: Natural Beach Art - 11/10/13 08:22 AM

We are always fascinated by Nature's arrangements of what the ocean sends to the beach.  This this the root ball of a kelp plant.  What is unusual about it is that is has nothing attached to it.
Usually there is rock that the kelp embeds itself into.  The root ball is pristine, except for little sprig of coral (the golden green plant), and then are some long blades of sea grass.  Wishing you all a great week.

luxury real estate websites: Speechless Sunday: A Perfect Dessert with Fragaria Vesca. - 11/10/13 04:50 AM

In our opinion the perfect dessert is often a simple one,  Here is a photo of a dessert we had at Per Luigi, a seafood restaurant in Rome, recommended by our concierge.
What you see is homemade vanilla ice cream on top of Fragaria Vesca, aka Alpine strawverries, wild stawberries and also known as Fraises des Bois in Europe.  It has an intense flavor, sweet and aromatic at the same time, and it is addictive.
We used to grow them in our Los Angeles garden and they are great trailing plants. While we watered that section of our garden, … (14 comments)

luxury real estate websites: Marketing Luxury Real Estate: Not Your Average Belgian treat! - 11/08/13 09:10 AM

When we think of Belgium, we remember great chocolate, beer, mussels and french fries served with Bearnaise sauce, which we indulged in on our honeymoon as we wandered around the European continent.  One thing we never associate with Belgium is Brussels sprout.
Wikipedia informs us that Brussels Sprouts may have originated in Brussels Belgium, and then again in an older iteration may have come from ancient Rome. They are in season now and ccan be bought in huge stalks.  Some people go gaga over them, we are not in that league. (Chocolate at 85% is our gaga choice) Ocasionally, … (12 comments)

luxury real estate websites: Branding: Is Your Logo A Shortcut to Communicate Your Brand Message? - 11/07/13 08:01 PM

Thank you for the tremendous response on our previous post on logos entitled, “Which Comes First, the Logo or the Brand?” Here is a follow up:  You must first know your unique value proposition, i.e., your brand message before your logo can become a communication shortcut for your brand.
Getting your logo to succinctly and swiftly communicate your brand message directly to your target market is no easy task.  But, when you get it right, as a luxury real estate marketing professional, it is unmistakable.
We recently drove by a Jack in the Box and saw their logo … (11 comments)

luxury real estate websites: Marketing Luxury Real Estate: Holding up the Temple of Wisdom - 11/07/13 09:14 AM

When I was 10 years old, my parents took me to the Parthenon to see the wonders of Greece.  As a child I was fascinated by the Temple of the Caryatids, sculptures of women holding the Temple of Athena.  I loved mythology which was a subject of taught in my French school.  Athena was my favorite, aka the Goddess of Wisdom.

On this last trip, Ron and I climbed up to the Parthenon, and we veered off to see Athena's Temple.  The original marble statues have been replaced by 5 concrete ones, and moved to the Acropolis museum.  Sadly … (8 comments)

luxury real estate websites: Wordless Wednesday: Sunsets Come Early These Days - 11/06/13 12:18 PM

It is starting to gett dark around 5PM these days.  On Monday, the sun started setting around that time.  Winter sunsets have a different feel as the beach becomes deserted, because it gets quite cold.  It is still eye candy for both of us. Wishing you all a great Thursday,
Cheers, Ron & Alexandra
