We are fascinated by the patterns of the waters as it comes over the sand. The water seems to individuate creating patterns, grooves and ridges that direct its flow for a brief time...and then it returns to the ocean where it came from. This reminds me of an Albert Einstein quote:

This week Satsuman mandarins ruled, and our friendly citrus farmers are promising that the navel oranges will be at their best by next week. This morning at the Farmers' Market, my eyes were drawn to this magnificent wreath, made with protea flowers. Given the nature of our climate, Ron and I found it appropriate and innovative. This wreath would be beautiful on an entry door. The vendor had them in two sizes, this one pictured above and a very large one, picture below.

We like bringing food items as hostess gifts when we are invited to holiday parties or dinner, and cheese is one of those foods almost everyone loves. The Farmers' Market has so many interesting choices that make for great gifts.
Our Santa Barbara Farmers' Market has several artisan cheese makers who sell their cheeses. One of our favorite stands, Dairy Goodness, makes "fromage blanc" (white cheese) is a creamy soft cheese made with whole or skimmed milk and cream. It has the consistency of cream cheese. The theme in the bright colored pennants in Beverly Hills this Christmas season is "Live Joy". Bijan, known for dressing moguls and royals, was the only one to express this sentiment as seen in the lead photo. Here is a tour of what we saw:
Ralph Lauren's window was beautifully composed. The mannequins looked bored. X-mas Ennui (French for boredom)
Tom Ford's windows featured Christmas in gray with gray boxes and mannequins dressed in gray.
Cartier had its signature playful panther batting the red boxes. Even the cat is subdued.

Poinsettias have become the symbol of the holidays in America. They are beautiful, and I spotted this variegated one at the Santa Barbara Farmers Market. In the Mediterranean countries of Europe, cyclamens signal the holidays.
My parents always bought cyclamens as part of the holiday decor when we lived overseas and continued the tradition in America. I love the red and white poinsettias, however, I always buy cyclamens for the holdays. This is our tradition, what is yours?

As we were leaving the bank, we noticed this gorgeous bouvier dog. His owner told me that Morgan, who is only 15 months old has not grown to full size yet. In Belgium, male bouviers are used for police work as they are very good at spotting the evil ones and herding them in. Santa Barbara is a dog loving community, and we have seen beautiful dogs of all types purebred and mixed breed dogs. To their owners, they are very special regardless of their breed!

Yesterday, we decided to leave early for a holiday celebration an hour away and see the movie Argo, which came highly recommended. The movie is based on a true story set in Iran in the tumultuous 1980’s and involves moving 6 Americans out of harm’s way. It was so well told and acted that we were riveted to our seats, and felt every anxious moment that the characters portrayed.
