A Painting - Weldy School, "Before and After".
As an artist, I am always looking at things differently than most.  This photo was taken on the west side of Nappanee, Indiana, just north of Highway 6. The school has since been replaced with a much modern school able to handle more students.

I have been asked on occasion how I was able to create my paintings. In this series I present a photograph that I took of the actual place and the final painting which shows my transition and interpretation between the two..  Most of the paintings were made from, … (28 comments)

History of a Painting - "The Corner Shelf".

While looking for some antique items for subject material for paintings, we stopped at a broken down old farm house along the road, we called the junk shop, because there was not much in the way of valuable antiques there..  The sign painted on old old piece of wood said, "Antiques".  The shop was located along a 2-lane road on central Georgia near the town of Pine Mountain.
There was nobody around as we walked around the outside of the building.  As we were behind the home, a car drove up, and … (17 comments)

History of a Painting - River Street, Savannah, GA.

While living in north Georgia in the 1980's, one of my favorite Art shows that I attended, was in south Georgia on River Street in Savannah.  The show was along the edge of the River, opposite all the shops and restaurants.  The street was still cobblestone as it was decades ago.  The buildings used to be warehouses, convenient for the shipping trade.
The painting is of one of the typical buildings made from stone and rock, at the north end of the street. The wrought iron stairs … (30 comments)

While traveling around the country, I was always on the lookout for places and things of nostalgia.  One Sunday afternoon, while driving down a 2 lane road in east-central Georgia, we passed through a community which may have been too small to call a town, but they had a building, with a row of stores on the north side of the road.  One was an antique shop, so we stopped, camera in hand.  It was obvious they were closed, because there were no … (17 comments)

As a young boy, I remember all the bright lights of the Palace Theatre in South Bend.  All the best movies were there, including the Premier of the the movie "Knute Rockne: All American", starring Ronald Raegan as George Gipp (The Gipper), with Rudy Vallee, Bob Hope, Jane Wyman, Kate Smith and Pat O'Brian as Knute Rockne..  The theatre was built in 1922 and closed in the 1960's.  It was later saved from demolition and remodeled into a theatrical venue with the help … (4 comments)

History of a Painting, On the Road in Senoia, Georgia
Fried Green Tomatoes
If you recall in the movie where Buddy was killed by the train, it was the Threadgood house, where they were having their festivities. This home was actually a bed and breakfast Inn,  located in Senoia, Georgia.  It is a historic home that sat across the street from a railroad track which was perfect for the story line.  The paved street was covered with dirt for the movie to fit the time period.
