New Jerseyan's want transparancy in government.  So, as promised, Governor Chris Christie recently launched a website that provides the public with data that makes it easier to understand New Jersey’s public finances.   Included on this website, www.YourMoney.NJ.Gov, is an interactive map that displays the Garden States’ 3.1 million property tax assessment records. With the new property tax feature,  you can check individual records in your town or community, jump from record to record and compare assessments and taxes from one town to another. New Jersey's new budget (FY 2009) has been approved by the Senate and Assembly, and sent to the Governor for final approval.  The $32.9 measure passed both houses of the Legislature Monday with little fanfare.
No so for the $3.9 billion school construction bonding bill which was hotly debated for more than four hours before gaining approval.
At issue is the amount of the bonding proposal and the refusal of the Governor and Legislature to put the plan before the voters.
The Governor originally called for borrowing only $2.5 billion to complete school construction projects in the state's most distressed school districts.  … (0 comments)

THE BATTLE OF TRENTON CIRCA 2008
As required by the NJ Constitution, Governor Jon Corzine delivered his new budget (Fiscal Year 2009) to a Joint Session of the New Jersey Legislature the last week in February and the next few months promise to be battle filled.
 In his budget message, Governor Corzine outlined his spending priorities for the upcoming year calling for cuts in state spending by $500 million.  The Governor's proposed budget contains no new taxes or fees.
