I love, love, love their personalization and monogramming service for just about everything in the shop.  They have beautiful initial necklaces and signet rings, and they'll … (0 comments)

west hartford center: Summer... When it’s Respectable to be Lazy! - 08/07/13 02:34 AM
Is it really possible that the year is more than half over? It seems that not so long ago we were turning the corner into the new year, the chill of December still with us. Now of course, that chill has long faded. Summer is here.
Sam Keen, an American author and professor, once said of the season: "Deep summer is when laziness finds respectability."  When the hot weather comes, it's a reminder for all of us to slow down and locate a little of that respectable laziness. According to James Dent, "A perfect summer day is when the sun is … (0 comments)

west hartford center: What's so great about the Buena Vista neighborhood? - 09/22/11 04:18 AM
Well, it's one of West Hartford's cutest neighborhoods (they even have their own street signs!) and it's also pretty convenient to everything.   Need groceries?  Five minutes away from Stop & Shop.  Feel like taking a swim?  Five minutes to Cornerstone Aquatics Center.  Love to shop?  Five minutes to Westfarms Mall & Corbin's Corner.  Like to run, bike or hike?  Five minutes to the West Hartford Reservoir.  Is golf your thing?  Buena Vista 9-hole golf course is right around the corner (for those not familiar with the area, it's a great place to take the kids to learn to play golf).  Okay, by … (1 comments)

west hartford center: "Swirly Goodness" is coming to Blue Back Square! - 09/09/11 01:11 AM
Wow!  West Hartford is truly becoming the place to be for all things food and drink!  Pinkberry Frozen Yogurt is the newest addition to West Hartford's long list of eateries (I was excited about Joey Garlics Pizzeria, but this is really fantastic!)
My first (and only) experience with Pinkberry was about a year ago in Washington, D.C. where we actually stumbled up this fro-yo delight.  As their site proclaims, "Pinkberry is home to Swirly Goodness®".  Inspired by European gelaterias and yogurterias, Pinkberry's distinctive yogurt flavors complement the fresh cut fruit and dry toppings that are available.  The best part is that you … (4 comments)

west hartford center: Don't Bring Your Open Containers to West Hartford Center! - 07/26/11 08:00 AM
I just heard about a new law in my home town of West Hartford, Connecticut that bans open alcoholic beverage containers.  Who knew with all the talk of the state budget problems and federal debt ceiling crisis that we had bigger problems-- open containers!
Fox News reports that residents have mixed reactions:
West Hartford Center and Blue Back Square have quickly  become the outdoor dining capital of central Connecticut and apparently "pre-gaming" or the consumption of alcoholic beverages on the way to local restaurants and bars has gotten out of hand.  (News to me as I live a block from West … (1 comments)

west hartford center: Lululemon opens August 5th in West Hartford Center! - 07/23/11 06:47 AM
West Hartford Center shopping just keeps getting better and better!  Lululemon, which sells men's and women's athletic and "yoga-inspired" apparel, will be filling the space formerly occupied by Bennett's Card Shop at 987 Farmington Avenue in West Hartford Center.  I guess active wear is the newest fashion trend (let's hope Stacey & Clinton don't find out!)
The day after the new store opens, on Saturday, Aug. 6, Lululemon will offer a free yoga class "all-levels — we'll have mats" — on the corner of La Salle and Farmington from 8 a.m. to 9:15 a.m.   Closing the street for yoga-- this should be good!

west hartford center: Price vs. Patience - 07/21/11 09:26 AM
We've been having a lot of discussion at our office meetings (and at the water cooler, copy machine, parking lot, coffee shop, and just about everywhere else) about getting listings sold.  With more inventory on the market, there seems to be a lot of commisserating about pricing right.  One of the agents recently commented that he tells his seller-clients that "In this market, it's either price or patience and I don't recommend patience."  Classic.
The funny thing is, I don't think there's really a choice when it comes to price vs. patience.  We all know that the market has shifted.  (in fact, … (0 comments)

west hartford center: Joey Garlics to Open in West Hartford Soon! - 05/16/11 01:55 AM
If you haven't tried Joey Garlics in Farmington or Newington yet, you'll have the opportunity to take a bite in West Hartford soon.  A Joey Garlics Express will be opening on Park Road (at the former Barb's Pizza location).  JG is in the process of preparing the space for their newest location which is sure to be a hit. Their New Haven-style brick oven pizza, is characterized by a crust similar in texture to rustic peasant bread, cooked to a darker color, allowing the toppings to blend together. The different ingredients caramelize, bringing out their naturally bold, sweet or savory flavors.  Although the … (0 comments)

west hartford center: What's in a Neighborhood? - 03/30/11 02:51 AM
Want a home in "The Center"? Or "Bishop's Corner"? Perhaps "West of Mountain Road" is more your style?  Or maybe even in "Elmwood"?  It seems that when buyers are searching for homes in West Hartford, it's all about the neighborhood.  Simply ask someone where they live and they'll give you the street address. If you don't recognize the street, they'll quickly follow up with, "Oh, it's in the Morley district" or "it's in Norfeldt".  But for those who are unfamiliar with the various intricacies of the the town it can be difficult to know exactly what that means.
Here's a quick summary of the West Hartford … (0 comments)

west hartford center: West Hartford Home Sales on the Upswing - 03/03/11 07:05 AM
I'm always a little surprised when I hear people comment about the dire real estate market; I just don't see it.  In one of my market areas (West Hartford, CT) single-family home sales increased by 28% during the first two months of 2011 when compared to the same time period one year ago.  During January and February 54 single family homes were sold in West Hartford with an average sales price of $342,651; in 2010 42 homes sold with an average sales price of $317,014.  That's an 8% increase in sales price, folks!  Some interesting statistics considering that the tax credit was in full swing … (0 comments)
