des moines: Des Moines Housing in 2016 - 01/04/17 04:26 AM
The Des Moines housing market remains extremely active and the trends are pointing to even more opportunities for buyers and sellers into 2017, and beyond. As expected, median costs have been steadily rising while there hasn't been much fluctuation from a sellers asking price to what is actually paid. With the limited supply in the market, that is to be expected.

des moines: Central Iowa Home Sales Down; Sale Prices Up from 2010 - 06/30/11 05:31 AM
Let's start with the good news. Average home sale prices are up slightly in central Iowa from last year ($141,279 in May up from $137,934 in May of 2010). The bad news, the number of sales is down significantly from May 2010. We can blame (or thank) last year's home buyer's tax credit that expired in June of 2010 and caused a surge in contracts this time last year.
Another interesting trend to consider is the list price vs. sold price ratio. The percent of list price dropped nearly a point to 95% from last year. On average, a house listed … (0 comments)

des moines: Des Moines Among Top 5 Areas Where Housing Market Will Recover First - 01/19/11 04:38 AM
Des Moines may not be the flashiest place to live in the eyes of coastal or big city folks, but I tell you what,  I wake up every morning thankful to be living in Des Moines, Iowa. As an expectant father, a homeowner, and a realtor, there is no better place to raise a family, own a home and prosper professionally. My Iowa enthusiasm is underscored this week by a recent report from marketwatch.com that ranks Des Moines among the Top 5 areas of the country where the housing market will recover first.
Yes, my friends, it's still a bit painful … (0 comments)

des moines: Qualifying to Sell Your Home as a Short Sale - 01/12/11 05:55 AM
A short sale can be a great way for a home owner to get out of a mortgage they can't afford while preserving their credit rating and not owing additional money. But, not just anyone can decide to sell their home via short sale.
In a short sale, a lender allows a property to be sold for less than the amount owed on a mortage. While the lender suffers a loss, most banks prefer short sale to foreclosures because, generally, they recoup more money with a short sale.
To qualify for to sell as a short sale, you need to show … (2 comments)

des moines: Whole Foods in Des Moines? The Bigger News is Hy-Vee in Waukee - 01/04/11 08:06 AM
I get the current excitement over Trader Joe's new store in West Des Moines and the news that Whole Foods is eyeing the Des Moines metro  for its first Iowa store, but I'm way more charged over plans for a grocery store coming to Waukee.
Hy-Vee, the locally-owned store that has been feeding us Iowans for more than 75 years, is coming to the intersection of Alice's Road and Hickman. Yeh, I may be snacking on a bag of inexpensive, organic walnuts from Trader Joes as I type this, but Hy-Vee is my family's meat & potatoes.  Hy-Vee has evolved over … (0 comments)
