Just about 25 minutes east of Murphy on Hwy 74 is a great little town where you can enjoy a more leisurely pace of life to settle down in. You won’t find any condos or townhomes here, but this small town atmosphere with its tree lined streets are just the thing that attracts new residents to this lifestyle in the mountains. Whether you’re wanting a home in town, down along Junaluska Creek, Lake Nantahala or up on the mountain, Andrews, (3 comments)
This flowing Junaluska Creek running through Andrews, NC is just one of the many NC creeks, lake and areas named after Chief Junaluska, the Cherokee chief who saved Andrew Jackson's life in the 1814 Battle of Horseshoe against the Creek Indians. Years later, Jackson betrayed his rescuer when he signed the Indian Removal Act, and in turn the great Cherokee leader earned the name we know him by—Junaluska, meaning "he tried repeatedly but failed."
