lee and carol barbour: Sharing our Murphy NC Thanksgiving Traditions and what are yours - 11/15/12 11:13 PM
With Thanksgiving just around the corner and making our grocery shopping list; it got us thinking about the “traditional” things we do in our family.

For our Thanksgiving celebrations I always display the Hall Autumn Leaf dishes from my paternal grandparents and it gets displayed on the old kitchen table from their home in Miami, Florida.  Without this treasured tradition, it’d be like not having pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving if we didn’t have the Autumn Leaves out.

How can some old dishes bring back so many memories each year... tell us what some of your “traditions” are … (12 comments)

Thankful Thursday in the Murphy, NC real estate office of the Mountain Living Team. Lee was out with Buyers up from Florida showing homes and I was in the office with our niece, Jayden Rose, helping out in the office and helping me get organized. Jayden is 8 years old and a girl after my own heart as she loves getting things organized and always has a “plan” to make things work better.
After we worked most of the morning we took a break and treated ourselves to a stop into Murphy Nails and Toes for a manicure and pedicure. … (2 comments)

lee and carol barbour: Fishing on the western NC Lakes, Rivers and Creeks - 06/16/12 11:41 AM

There are so many places in western NC and the surrounding GA and TN mountains around us to enjoy fishing. Favorites are largemouth and smallmouth bass, striper, crappie, catfish and trout. in our pristine lakes, rivers and creeks. On March 31, 2012, seventeen-year-old Tyler Shields of Murphy, NC thought he was fishing for largemouth bass when he headed out with friends to Hiwassee Lake. What he boated instead was a 66-pound striped bass that shattered the state’s freshwater record - and topped by 2 pounds the North Carolina saltwater striper record as well.Besides all the rivers and creeks around these mountain … (6 comments)

Speechless Sunday in the western NC mountains and just over the NC/GA state line we came across this little guy - hey, don’t call him shorty!
Well, whatever his name was he was the cutest and curious little horse. I guess he could still see us with all that mane because he kept following us back and forth the fence line. There are some great Farms and Horse Properties here in the mountains!

lee and carol barbour: They found their mountain get-away in the Hayesville, NC mountains - 05/01/12 01:02 AM
Tom and I would like to take time to express our sincerest appreciation to Carol & Lee Barbour. We were fortunate enough to see a property for sale on another realtor’s website that we were very interested in.  Tom had talked with Carol about some other properties and was very impressed with her professionalism.   So we called Carol about the property and immediately she jumped into action.  I’m certain without her prompt attention we might not have gotten this property.  We are very grateful we got The Mountain Living Team as our Realtor. She made a very tense time much easier. … (6 comments)

This Sunday on April 22, 2012 we celebrate the 42nd Anniversary of Earth Day! The following statistics are eye-opening, to say the least how just little changes can impact our world. If everyone went vegetarian just for one day, the U.S. would save:● 100 billion gallons of water, enough to supply all the homes in New England for almost 4 months● 1.5 billion pounds of crops otherwise fed to livestock, enough to feed the state of New Mexico for more than a year● 70 million gallons of gas--enough to fuel all the cars of Canada and Mexico combined with plenty to spare● … (5 comments)

Celebrate Golfer’s Day in the western NC Mountains! Some avid golfers might suggest that any and every day is Golfer's Day. But on April 10th, it's official. Golfer's Day is an opportunity to be thankful that someone invented this addicting, yet relaxing hobby. Also referred to as "Golf Day", there is only one proper way to enjoy this day. And, that's out on the golf course - of course.
