I'm not the type to ask someone to do something I wouldn't do. In work, in the gym, with their diet, sleep habits, or, in this case, donating to a cause bigger than themself.
Last year, I asked for help to bring supplies to people effected by the Carr fire in northern CA, and I was gifted $500 in just a few hours, some of it from friends on ActiveRain, but ALL of it in one form or another from an online fundraiser - it was truly amazing! I was able to get a TON of great (6 comments)
Agent Marketer's 'Martketing Interrupt' 2018 virtual conference is, in my opinion, the best $50 you can spend as an agent or loan officer if you want to learn new marketing strategies from some of the best out there.
That $50 is a donation to help 2 really outstanding non-profits, and you get access to content from speakers that you'll otherwise likely spend hundreds or thousands of dollars to see. Many of the names involved in Marketing Interrupt have been on the stage (or are scheduled to be on stage) at some slightly more expensive (6 comments)
There are a lot of "community" lenders out there. But what does that mean? For me, it means being a part of a community. When there's a problem, you're a part of the solution. When people need help, you're a helping hand. You do more than provide a service and cash checks based on that service. I believe that we all play a role, big or small.
With December being the Season of Giving, I wanted to see what our company does to live up to being a community lender. So earlier this month, I (2 comments)
At least that's what I thought. Almost every day it seems there's another settlement between a bank and the department of Justice based on something done in the mortgage world that traded consumer trust for tremendous profits. Let's face it, the business of banking can't exist without profits. That said, I've always thought that taking care of people leads to more profits. People always come first with me. For years, I felt that I was in the minority in this way of thinking - in my industry, I was.
I struggle with RAK's (Random Acts of Kindness), charity, and "giving back". Not the acts themselves, but talking about them. I don't believe acts of kindness or good will toward others should be viewed upon as "doing the right thing" or anything that deserves recognition. In fact, I'd be more comfortable in a world where these things are viewed as the norm, rather than exceptional. That said, I realize that seeing others being good to other people can be a source of inspiration, and can trigger more goodwill from others, which is where 'paying it (26 comments)
"Giving back" is a really important part of my life. Along the way, I've volunteered at places where I've seen so very little be turned into so very much, and I've learned that even though I'm not incredibly wealthy, I can make an impact. I believe everyone else can, too.
With the holiday season in full swing, I've already taken action to help give back. The Socal Transplants group that I'm a part of raised $500 last month for the Orange County Rescue Mission, and I'm running a fundraiser in (25 comments)
For a July ActiveRain challenge, Donna Foerster invites us to share how we've made or are planning on making a difference in our community. I love this challenge idea, because community involvement, volunteer work, and charity have always been an important part of my life. What I've done recently isn't too impressive as I've spent a lot of time just learning my way around my new community in Costa Mesa, but prior to moving here I was very active in my old community of Newark, DE.

Monday Motivation A new blog post each week to inspire & motivate through stories & great quotes. Hope your week's off to a great start! I recently saw a video made in which an old man helps a young, poor child, only to have the child return the favor upon growing up. It reminded me of the following story which I first read years ago in college. The story is written by W.E Petersen and emphasizes helping others, especially those in need, with no expectations.

Are you up to the Faithful Friends $100,000 match challenge? From now thru February 15, 2013, some generous donors at Faithful Friends animal society will be matching, dollar for dollar, any financial contribution made up to $100,000. Faithful friends is ALWAYS in need of help - whether it be financial contributions, (1 comments)
