My family settled in Monterey County long before the "Sardine Days of Cannery Row". My Grandfather came from Italy, fished for Sardines..while my grandmother and Aunt worked in the canneries. I asked my grandmother once, "Wasn't is amazing when the canneries were in operation, the harbor was bustling with fishermen"? She said..".NO! the whole town stunk". I also remember when Foam Street was not a one way street. I grew up playing on the sand dunes where Spanish Bay Resort and Golf Course now sit..in those days, the Sierra Club … (0 comments)
