family: Speechless Sundays - Something I Need to Confess - 02/10/13 01:31 AM
It was a great week at the Bettag House.  My oldest turned 14, tomorrow my 2nd oldest turns 12.  But the fun here was with my 4th, Grant.  Grant had his first reconciliation, a pre-requisite, prior to his first communion.  I was telling people that I''ll probably go to hell for this, but I couldn't resist.  Although a private confessional area, with a million kids, a lot of the priests had to create a makeshift area.  So I had to throw my camera up against the window to capture this moment.  Love it.
There's Something Really Cool and Innocent about this … (8 comments)

family: Don Corleone Has Nothing on Me! - 01/24/13 02:54 AM
There's a lot of responsibility when you're the head of THE FAMILY. Sure....I didn't really set out to do this. Just wanted to hang with the family, but when Don Vito Corleone went down, I got the call......as
THE GODFATHER....OF "THE FAMILY." I will tell you that I never thought that Facebook would do this to me, but, now, I'm growing into this role and frankly, it's quite hard to shake.
Let me take you back a year or so..... I decided that since I don't have a common name like Johnson, Smith or Jones, we needed a place on Facebook … (10 comments)

family: Speechless Sundays - Making Your Kids Smile...Makes You Smile.... - 01/12/13 11:21 PM
Again....tis past week my kids and I gave mom a bit of reprieve by taking all 5 kids to our farm up north.  Fortunately, close by we have a little ski hill that they call "Sunburst Ski Area."  It's really just a beginner bump, but for all of my kids who don't know any different, it might as well be Vail, Colorado.
Here, I'm riding the lift with my 2nd boy, Jake and heading up the lift with him.
You'd think he'd died and gone to heaven.  He knows that there's better slopes out there, but he's just thrilled to be … (7 comments)

family: MY SHORT BUT HEARTFELT CHRISTMAS STORY - 12/26/12 01:06 PM
Yes...we had a blast!  It was a lot of fun.  Every year I try to write something a bit inspirational.  I couldn't this year...until Christamas day.  Then my 5 year old all but slapped me in the face on the meaning of Christmas.  Here's my message to my staff:

Michelle and I spent less than $50 apiece on each other, but a bit more on the kids.  We had a great Christmas Eve and a nice time at mass this morning before opening up the presents for our kids.  At mass today, I was looking around thinking about what it … (10 comments)

family: Wordless Wednesdays - Summer Family Fun - 08/01/12 04:22 AM
It has been one brutal summer hasn't it?  I have 5 kids, 3 of which are boys.  We did a football camp when it was over 100 degrees and I felt that they needed to have a cool head.  Seriously...with that heat, we need to have a cool head.  But the boys still couldn't resist a bit of fashion this summer when they wanted to get their mohawk on.
School starts in a month and they won't be able to MOHAWK it in school....so I figured...what the heck!!!

family: Wordless Wednesdays - Camping on Spring Break - 03/28/12 12:36 PM
So I'm sitting here with my wife doing work.  She is watching some flick about Marilyn Monroe and I'm contemplating life and my future with every step of all I do.  In the meantime, I'm reminiscing about my childhood as my two boys are camping outside right now with their cousins.  My oldest boys are 13 and 11, and their cousins are 14 year old twins.  For me.....it doesn't get any better than this....

family: Speechless Sundays - Happy Dad and Happy Daughter - 03/25/12 12:31 PM
I gotta tell you that I love being a dad.  It's been 4 years since we've had our last child, Tessa.  Today we're heading to the Daddy - Daughter date dance, but Tessa isn't going.  Rather she's been crying that older sister Claire is going to this Hawiian Themed Dance.  So, in my best efforts to put a smile on her, I try to entertain.  It worked...until I put her down to walk out the door.  In any event....it's still fun being a dad!
I just love the look on her face.  You don't even have to know the kid to … (5 comments)

family: Wordless Wednesdays - Speed is Fun - 03/21/12 12:10 AM
Remember when it was so cool to put your head out of the back of your dad's station wagon and open your mouth?  Or maybe you put your hand out against the resistence of the wind and let it climb and drop?  I was taking my daughter home this weekend and without her knowing just grabbed the cam and let it go.  She said "heyyyyyyyyyy."  I gotta tell you...I just love it!

family: Speechless Sundays - Getting Ready for Summer!!! - 03/10/12 11:36 PM
I used to work at a Camp in Colorado when I was in college.  We had a 12 by 12 foot raft.  I was the head lifeguard and the Atheletic Director.  It was awesome.  In any event, many years later, when we got our new house it came with a 1 acre pond.  I couldn't wait for me to build the same 12 by 12 foot raft.
Guess What?
We get about 100 gallons a minute coming up through the underground springs and it's about 40 degrees.  Yesterday we waded out to bring the raft back and today we're going swimming … (13 comments)

family: Wordless Wednesdays - My Daughter & Dora...what a Cheesy Post - 01/25/12 04:06 AM
OK....so, for me, this is the epitome of the cheesiest post ever.  Can't stand it.  However, my wife sold out and had to get Tessa with her movie star friend, Dora.  They both have great personalities, but I'm not letting my daughter take off and get the "Dutch Boy" haircut.  No way!
Anyway....I'm not really sure where this was, but it looks like it was on the outside of a grade school or a mall.  Who knows?
My daughter is happy, and mom is happy, and if momma's happy, everyone's happy!

family: Wordless Wednesdays - Fun at the Green Bay Packer Loss!!! - 01/18/12 01:45 AM
I went to the Packer Game this past weekend.  It was cold and we had on at least 7 layers a piece.  My friend gave us some cool beer glasses that just seemed like a natural fit in the scheme of a Green Bay Packer playoff game.  Then we came across some dude with Christmas lights in his beard.  For my son, Brett, and me, it just seemed natural that we had to get the picture.  The dude was more than gracious!!!!

family: Wordless Wednesdays - Best Friends - 12/28/11 01:26 AM
It's not often that the kids are in sync with each other.  They all have their moments, but Tessa and Grant seem to be in love with each other.  Wish I could capture the moment, but like any married spouses they have their good days and bad days.  The best thing about these two is that they really love hanging with each other.   Now...as for the other three.....I need to duplicate this moment

family: 2011 is Gone. How's Your Lifetime Legacy Coming Along? - 12/22/11 03:13 PM
It's amazing!  2012 is finally upon us and 2011 is nothing but about 2 weeks away from being a memory.  How'd you do with your goals?  Me?  I did really well.  I failed in many areas, but I held fast to some massive memories.  I hired a few new just great and new branches.  I can't even tell you how excited I am to have them on our team and helping us penetrate our market.
Work I'm expanding further and further and getting more financially sound.  Really, one of my biggest goals in 2011 was to have a laser like focus.  … (10 comments)

family: Wordless Wednesdays - Dad's Rookie! - 12/21/11 01:16 PM
Nothing better than getting your own into sports.  My daughter, Claire, has her first season as playing basketball of any sort at all.  Never dribbled, never shot, but.....SHE'S VERY ATHLETIC!  She is into gymnastic, and is very even keel in all that she does, but it's a steep learning curve if you're not playing a long time.
This was one of her last games of the season.  In fact, then she had a double header.
SHE HAS NEVER SCORED A POINT ALL YEAR, BUT I told her that this is the one sport that it is acceptable to fight.
She was … (11 comments)

family: Wordless Wednesdays - Mom & Daughter at the Roller Rink - 12/14/11 03:24 PM
So my wife and I take our 9 year old out for her birthday party after Thanksgiving.  She's stoked.  Claire is my Steddy Eddie of the family.  They're all great in their own way, but she is Ms. Steady Eddie.  Needless to say, you would have thought that we purchased the entire Chuck E Cheese franchise.  After the older brothers got tired, she kept on keeping on.
Here is mom helping our four year old by acting as a pair of training wheels.  Life doesn't get much better now does it?

family: Speechless Sundays - Bathing Suits and Snow....You B Chillin!!!!!! - 12/11/11 01:19 PM
So.....today was a fun day at the Bettag house.  The 50,000 foot flyover went like this:
Church with the family; Homework; Basketball with just the 5 kids and myself; Watching the Packers Win......and....... Went into the steam room and let the kids run out and play in the snow and run back on it.

family: Wordless Wednesdays - Four Year Old living as a 9 Year Old - 12/07/11 02:37 PM
So....here she is at my other daughter's 9th Birthday, living high off the hog and thinking that she's a 9 year old 3rd grader.  Obviously, she isn't one of the girls, but you wouldn't know it by the looks of Tessa here.
She is riding in the wake of 8 different 3rd graders.  I've never seen her like this, but I will say that she sometjhing else.
Living, loving life, and wanting to be big.  Happy Wordless Wednesdays....

family: Speechless Sundays - Like Mother, Like Daughter - 12/04/11 08:34 AM

Gotta tell you, I love my women.  I don't think that I show my love for my wife nearly as much as I should, but I'll say that she does rock my world.  She's a great wife and a great mom of 5.  Our first two are boys and "boy" did my wife, pray, and pray, and pray, and pray for a girl.  She got two of them.  I imagine that it's for theses moments for them to bond.  Like I said....a chip off the ole block

family: Wordless Wednesdays - A face that melts a dad! - 11/30/11 01:25 PM

Need I say anything more?  I'm on the road and coming back again tomorrow....but just one day makes the heart grow fond.  Here's my "Dude," Grant.  Looking like a model.  He's cute as a button, but a lot of boy.  Loves football, but has a heart of passion that could make the Pope cry.  Compassion and Passion all built into one!  Gotta love being a dad.

family: Wordless Wednesdays - Here's Who I'm Thankful for This Thanksgiving - 11/23/11 03:08 PM

OK....nothing over the top.  Nothing too outrageous.  Something a bit boring.  Something a bit old - fashioned, but in truth, my wife is someone who I am incredibly thankful for.  Remember that dream that you had as a kid?  Football player, Rock & roll singer, Astronaut, president.  Me?  My only dream was to get married to someone who loved me, have a bunch of off the wall kids who'd appreciate a freak daddy, like myself, and change the world.  Michelle took a leap of faith...and for that....
I'm THANKFUL!  Always will be....Thanks babe!  Happy Thanksgiving Michelle! … (9 comments)
