While foreclosures are up for the 2nd straight year, recent filings have gone down!!!!  Let's hope that this is a sign of good things to come shortly....for those who are serious about doing well in this industry!

Dec. 10 (Bloomberg) -- Foreclosure filings in the U.S. will reach a record for the second consecutive year with 3.9 million notices sent to homeowners in default, RealtyTrac Inc. said.
This year's filings will surpass 2008's total of 3.2 million as record unemployment and price erosion batter the housing market, the Irvine, California-based company said.
"We are a long way from a recovery," John Quigley, economics professor at the University of California, Berkeley, said in an interview. "You can't start to see improvement in the housing market until after unemployment peaks."

U.S. home foreclosures soared by 121% in second-quarter year-over-year results, according to a report issued by RealtyTrac.  Realty Trac (RT), said that there were 739,714 foreclosure filings in the second quarter of 2008, a 14% quarterly increase. According to RealtyTrac, 48 of 50 states and 95 of 100 of the largest metropolitan areas experienced year-over-year increases in foreclosure activity in the second quarter.

On Tuesday RealtyTrac released some pretty scary numbers relating to foreclosures. According to its data, RealtyTrac said, more than 176,000 people got foreclosure notices in May, an increase of 90 percent since the same month one year ago and the highest figure ever recorded in their monthly report.
The bad news made all of the network newscasts but we have always been a little leery of this particular source because RealtyTrac basically sells information on individual foreclosures to those interested in investing in the product.
