In my hometown of Jacksonport, Door County Wisconsin, 200 hearty souls took a dip in Lake Michigan at noon today. The Jacksonport Polar Bear Club has been doing this for 30+ years. Other years, with more moderate temperatures, would bring out 800+ swimmers. The temps were below zero today and the fire department/rescue workers encouraged people to forgo the annual dip in the lake. Think about this...if people love swimming in Lake Michigan in January, how fantastic must it be to live on the lake the rest of the year.
