Have you ever walked or ridden along the bike path that runs from Algiers to Gretna? It's a great ride, with a spectacular view of the city and the skyline serving as a backdrop to your exercise program. Plenty of people would love to be able to continue their ride into lower Algiers, but haven't been able to do so. That's all changing.

Up until the crazy post Katrina market of 2006, we really considered ourselves insulated from the real estate woes that so much of the rest of the U.S. was experiencing. Yes, according to an article in City Business. Don’t get too excited. One thing that being a data geek has taught me is that you can make numbers say almost anything you want them to.
According to the article, there was an increase of 20.1% in home sale prices in Algiers from October to November and an increase of 5.4% on the West Bank of Jefferson Parish. Sounds like great news. The Aurora Methodist Church in Algiers has been hosting volunteer mission groups since right after Hurricane Katrina. Hundreds of adults and youth have made the church their home for a few nights or even a few weeks while they have helped in the clean up and recovery efforts of the city. Today, the youth and counselors of Aurora Methodist packed up and headed out to Atlanta for their own mission trip to assist in cleaning, painting and repairing two homes for elderly Georgia residents.
