gretna heritage festival: 2011 Gretna Heritage Festival Photos
- 10/31/11 01:09 PM
This year was the first one in a long time that I wasn't able to attend all three days of the annual Heritage Festival in Gretna LA. But, despite the fact that I missed the final day, I was still able to get some pictures and video of all of the festivities. The festival seems to get bigger every year, but still manages to keep that small town feel that I love so much. Hope you enjoy the photos!

October is my favorite month of the year for fairs and festivals in New Orleans. The weather is usually stellar and there is fun around every corner. This month, there are back to back events to keep us all outdoors, fed well and having fun. Best of all, they are all family friendly events, so bring the kids and your mama 'n em and get out and have fun! Like music? You can't miss the Gretna Heritage Festival this weekend! Jam packed with live music on multiple stages, this 3 day festival covers over 15 blocks in the heart of Gretna. (0 comments)
gretna heritage festival: The 15th Annual Gretna Heritage Festival Was Rockin'!
- 10/06/09 04:52 AM
The 2009 Gretna Heritage Festival is now part of the history books, and despite the fact that Sunday was dreary and rainy, I’m sure that another new attendance record must have been set. After spending 3 days on the festival grounds, I didn’t even come close to seeing or hearing everything, but I did get a really good sampling of food, music and fun.
The festival opened on Friday afternoon to a queue of waiting people and more continued to arrive in a steady stream throughout the evening. Lines quickly formed at the various food booths around dinner time and (7 comments)
gretna heritage festival: The festival is here! 15th Annual Gretna Heritage Festival this weekend!

From it’s start with one stage and a couple of hundred attendees, the Gretna Heritage Festival has come a long, long way! The fun kicks off again tonight and lasts through the weekend with a stellar line up of music, over 40 food booths, carnival rides and art, jewelry and craft booths to satisfy your need for retail therapy and more.
The weather forecast for Friday is looking a little damp, so throw on your raincoat, pull up your galoshes (or your shrimp boots – we don’t mind) and head on out to Gretna for an amazing start to (5 comments)
gretna heritage festival: 2008 Gretna Heritage Festival - Closing Day Photos and Video
- 10/06/08 10:11 AM
Whew! Another festival has come to a close and it had to be the biggest one yet if the sales at the Krewe of Choctaw booth were any indication. Thankfully, we had more volunteers this year to help out, so I was able to wander a little bit more and eat a whole bunch more...I'm holding the city of Gretna responsible for the 5 pounds that I'm sure I gained in the last three days. Here are some of the sights and sounds of the closing day:
The crowds were unbelievable and the kids were thrilled with all of (17 comments)
gretna heritage festival: 2008 Gretna Heritage Festival - Photos and Video from Day 2
- 10/05/08 03:43 AM
Before I head back over to Gretna for the final day of the Heritage Festival, I thought I would share some photos from Saturday. The weather was gorgeous, the food was incredible and music was being played on 7 different stages all day and into the night. I missed the big name acts, since I was working at the Krewe of Choctaw booth, but I did manage to take a stroll around and catch some of the local artists (who are my favorite anyway) and sample some of the dishes being put out by the other non-profit organizations. I hope they (13 comments)
gretna heritage festival: 2008 Gretna Heritage Festival - Opening Day
- 10/04/08 03:00 AM
I just wanted to share a few photos from the first day of the 2008 Gretna Heritage Festival with you. I didn't get a chance to see everything, but I'm heading back out today to capture some more! Things kicked off with the West Bank's own Chicken on the Bone on the Market Stage:
After the band finished, it was off to the Krewe of Choctaw booth for the best shrimp po-boys around.
The kids had a great time checking out all of the rides and carnival-like games.
The crowds were the largest (10 comments)

The festival is here! The festival is here! My absolutely must attend West Bank festival is taking place this weekend in the City of Gretna and I can't wait to get out there and hear some great music, eat some fantastic food and try to keep at least a little cash in my pocket while drooling over the beautiful arts, crafts and jewelry that fill the booths. Starting at 4 pm on Friday, the 2008 Gretna Heritage Festival kicks off with my favorite local band Chicken on the Bone rocking the market stage. Disclosure: I'm just a little biased since (12 comments)
gretna heritage festival: Gretna Heritage Festival Music Line Up Announced

My absolute favorite festival on the West Bank is the Gretna Heritage Festival, held the first weekend of October each year. There are enough things for the kids to do and ride and eat and play on that I could easily go broke in 3 short days, but we've learned to make them budget their money for the weekend to avoid that sad scenario. Since I belong to the Krewe of Choctaw carnival club, I spend the entire weekend at the Festival, alternately having fun checking out all of the art, crafts and jewelry and then working at the booth we (15 comments)
Friday The festival kicked off on Friday afternoon at 4 pm. While it was overcast with some rain off and on, it didn't stop the visitors from coming through the gates. I was working at the Krewe of Choctaw booth, selling (and eating) shrimp poboys, crawfish pies and "Shrimp in Da Cup", so I did not get a chance to catch any of the musical entertainment on (7 comments)

It's that time of year again. The Gretna Heritage Festival is this weekend, starting Friday, October 5th and running through Sunday, October 7th - are you ready? The festival is held on the West Bank in the City of Gretna on the first weekend of October each year, just as the weather is becoming milder and being outside is fun. Located at Huey P. Long and the Mississippi River, with so much to experience...the festival offers great food, music and fun. Free public parking is available in the parking garage at 3rd St & Derbigny St. There will be an area with carnival (10 comments)
gretna heritage festival: Gretna Heritage Festival 2007

One of the great things about living and working on the West Bank is the fabulous festivals we can go to each year without ever crossing the river. The Gretna Heritage Festival in downtown Gretna, LA is a 3 day event scheduled this year for October 5, 6 & 7, 2007. The Krewe of Choctaw (of which I am a proud member) will once again be there manning a fund raising booth, selling our famous shrimp po-boys and whatever new offering the chefs come up with. Although hard work, it's always a good time, especially when you get to ask a tourist if (0 comments)
