That was what I read recently in an agent’s remarks in our local Multiple Listing Service (MLS). Now, I’m all for agents communicating with each other that a seller is motivated (although you would think that the mere act of putting their home on the market would mean they want to sell), but this one made me scratch my head and say “really?”
When an agent lists a home they (should) have a few goals in mind:

I got a call yesterday from an out of town buyer, "Joe", who wanted to know about his rights after an  inspection. He is being transferred to NAS JRB New Orleans and had written a purchase agreement on a West Bank home.  As it happened, the inspector uncovered some items that the seller had not disclosed.
Joe had several questions about how to handle this situation and wanted my advice on how to proceed.
 
Unfortunately, I could not help him.

Although there are fewer buyers actively looking for new homes between Thanksgiving and Christmas each year, it's important to remember that the key word here is fewer.  That doesn't mean that no one is looking!  In fact, buyers who are searching for a home during the traditional "slow" time are typically very motivated.  If they are involved in a relocation to the West Bank, you can bet that the holiday season doesn't put their home search on the back burner.

I know...I've gone on and on about the statistics.  Over 85% of today's buyers are looking on the internet for their new home.  Listings with multiple photos and virtual tours get more views and more attention from buyers than those without.  Kind of common sense, huh?
Well, if I know this, and you know this, then please tell me why there are agents who still don't get it.  I'd really like to understand.

There is a perception of many REALTORS as middle aged women or men with too much/not enough hair, too much make up, too much perfume, too much gaudy jewelry, too big of a car....everything in excess and then on top of all of that - they are PUSHY, PUSHY, PUSHY!

This week, the news came out that Starbucks projects a more than 90% drop in 4th quarter 2008 earnings.  As changes in the economy are forcing some consumers to tighten their budgets, high priced coffee is no longer selling at the rapid pace that it once was.  At the same time, McDonald's posted an increase in third quarter 2008 earnings, with much of the continued growth attributed to the value levels of its menu.

Recently, the big daddy of all real estate sites, Realtor.com, changed their look and added several new features designed to make it easier for home buyers and sellers to find out everything they need to know about buying or selling a house.  It's a nice looking site.  It's easy to navigate.  And it's a huge disappointment to me.
Why?
One of the big upgrades to the site is the inclusion of home valuations or "What's My House Worth?".  Unless you are the type of person who looks at every inch of a screen or reads all of the fine print, you might miss … (50 comments)

I've written before about Brechtel Park in Algiers, reminding everyone that we have a diamond in the rough - 112 acres on the America's Wetland Birding Trail that is right in our own backyards and has the potential to rival any other park on the West Bank.
