Showcasing the arts and culture for over 90 years, the New Orleans Museum of Art sits on the edge of City Park. The long, long entry drive provides an impressive view of the building and allows you to soak in the beautiful surrounding ponds, walking trails and massive oak trees as you approach the museum itself.
I recently had a chance to stop and snap a few photos of the area and thought I would share them with you:

About NOMA:
The New Orleans Museum of Art, the city's oldest fine arts institution, has a magnificent permanent collection of more … (4 comments)

things to do in new orleans: I Went On Down to the Audubon Zoo... - 04/12/10 04:25 AM
I went on down to the Audubon Zoo… People who live in New Orleans know that the next line is “and they all ask’d for you” (If you don’t know this local tune, listen to the Meters perform it here.)
If you are new to the city or are in the process of relocating, you might not know that New Orleans boasts one of the finest zoos in the U.S. That hasn’t always been the case, because I remember how sad and smelly it was when I was growing up. For years, attendance was low as locals rejected the zoo as … (7 comments)

things to do in new orleans: A Spring Sunday in New Orleans - 03/14/10 01:55 PM
While our Northern friends are still dealing with cold weather, today was one of those gorgeous spring days in New Orleans that make you forget that before long we will be living with the heat of the summer.
It was entirely too pretty to stay inside, so we hopped over the river and spent the morning walking through the French Market and Jackson Square.  Soaking up the sights and the sounds of the city on a Sunday is a wonderful, inexpensive (FREE) way to spend a morning or afternoon and I was reminded how much I love this city that … (9 comments)

After all, what other city in the U.S. can rival New Orleans with its rich history, stunning architecture and gourmet dining?

things to do in new orleans: An Evening in New Orleans with Placido Domingo - 01/18/09 05:11 AM
New Orleans has always been known for the non-stop party atmosphere of the French Quarter, the glorious cuisine that makes every other city pale in comparison and the annual celebration of Mardi Gras. But there is so much more to the city than a 24 hour party and last night we able to soak in some culture of another type.
Since Hurricane Katrina, the Mahalia Jackson Theatre has been shuttered due to storm damage. Flooding and wind damage left the electrical and mechanical system in ruins and mold began its march up the aisles, and across the seats, curtains and walls. … (13 comments)

things to do in new orleans: Art and Linen: A Night Out in New Orleans (LOCALISM FEATURED) - 08/07/08 11:51 AM
This past Saturday, just like the first Saturday of every August, was White Linen Night in the Arts District of New Orleans. I haven't seen such a crowd for a long time and although the weather was hot, hot, hot, it didn't appear to keep anyone from coming out, cruising through the art galleries and enjoying food and drinks all along Julia Street.

My husband and I are lucky enough to have friends who live in a great loft near Julia Street, so we parked by the Piazza d'Italia and headed up 3 flights of stairs to enjoy the … (43 comments)

things to do in new orleans: Wednesday at the Square in New Orleans - 03/28/08 06:56 AM
It's the little things that make New Orleans such a unique place to call home to me.
Post Katrina, my husband and I seriously considered leaving.  Moving to another state and starting over in a place that wasn't damaged, wasn't in a recovery mode 24/7.  We even went so far as to start decluttering the house to put it on the market and looking at homes in a new city and state.
But, one Wednesday afternoon in the spring, we threw the kids in the car and headed downtown to Lafayette Square.  Cowboy Mouth was playing that day and, being fans and having … (21 comments)
