west bank living: New Orleans Moving Tips: Where To Donate or Recyle When Packing for Your Move - 03/01/12 06:48 AM
One of the most common complaints I hear when people have to start the packing process before moving is "I have so much STUFF".   I think that we all have a tendency to accumulate things/stuff/junk in our homes.
If you are one of those people that never keeps something just in case, then this is not for you.
For the rest of us, getting rid of things can be a chore. Fortunately, there are a couple of really easy ways to dispose of items you no longer want, and certainly don't want to move, that could be useful to … (1 comments)

west bank living: Why Is It So Hard to Find New Orleans Homes for Sale? - 11/08/11 05:55 AM
One of my pet peeves with the New Orleans MLS (Multiple Listing Service) is that they have not kept up with the times in regards to how they share real estate listings with the agents that subscribe to the service or with the home buying and selling public.
There are literally hundreds and hundreds of online sites that buyers can go to find lists of homes for sale.  Realtor.com, Trulia, Zillow, Yahoo!...heck, even just a google search will turn up page after page of national sites for your perusal in addition to a large number of local agent websites.
The problem … (14 comments)

west bank living: 2011 Gretna Heritage Festival Photos - 10/31/11 01:09 PM
This year was the first one in a long time that I wasn't able to attend all three days of the annual Heritage Festival in Gretna LA.  But, despite the fact that I missed the final day, I was still able to get some pictures and video of all of the festivities.
The festival seems to get bigger every year, but still manages to keep that small town feel that I love so much. Hope you enjoy the photos!

west bank living: Are You on the Same Page as Your REALTOR®? - 08/31/11 04:05 AM
One of the perks of choosing to work with a great buyer’s agent is that they have the chance to get to know you and find out all of the little things that make you swoon when you see a house.
Finding a home for you that has everything you were searching for and more is what they do, day in and day out….watching the market, checking out the hot new listings, previewing homes that might work for you and suggesting properties that might not seem to work on paper but have the right stuff.
So, it’s a little discouraging to me … (3 comments)

west bank living: Don't Take New Orleans Real Estate Advice from a National Real Estate Site - 08/17/11 11:50 AM
There is a recent article at CNN discussing the merits of buying vs renting in different parts of the country. In some places, rental properties are in high demand, so the price of renting can be higher than the cost of owning. In other places, not so much. It's some fairly good information about what you should consider when determining if it's a good time for you to buy instead of renting.     Here's a bit of the article: Should you rent or buy? The buy-rent calculation is just one part of the decision-making process. Other factors include: How long … (5 comments)

west bank living: If You Don't Want It, What Makes You Think The Buyer Does? - 08/11/11 02:05 AM
I know that moving is hard work. After our last move, I informed my husband that I'd rather burn down the house than have to pack up and then unpack all of our belongings ever again. I can't imagine how much harder that would have been if we were forced to deal with items left behind by the previous owner, but I see this happen all of the time.

If you don't want something that's too big, heavy, bulky, old...whatever...chances are the buyer doesn't want you to leave it behind in your home or garage or shed either.

west bank living: Expect Good Customer Service - 08/10/11 02:56 AM
Real estate is a customer service business.  Yes, there's a lot more to it than that, but the bottom line when you choose a REALTOR®, a home inspector, a lender or a title company is that they should not only provide you with expert guidance in their field, but excellent customer service as well.

Recently, I had an experience with a West Bank closing attorney that left a horrible taste in the mouth of a home buyer....and it never should have happened.
The attorney, in an effort to drum up business, had donated a free closing as a door prize … (5 comments)

west bank living: I'm Not Miss Clairol and You Are Not a REALTOR - 11/15/10 05:05 AM
In an attempt to save time and money, I decided recently to color my own hair. After all, they sell hair color in every drug and grocery store and I’ve watched my hair dresser do it time and time again. How hard could it be, right?

Well, apparently there can be some unexpected results when you are a do-it-yourself hair dresser. In my case, they included:
The need to buy a replacement towel for the one that now has purple spots all over it (no, I did not dye my hair purple, that’s just the color of the stains) Buying … (94 comments)

west bank living: Gretna LA Neighborhoods | A Tour of Park Place Subdivision - 07/19/10 04:21 PM
Developed in the 1980s, the Park Place subdivision is located in Jefferson Parish, in Gretna, Louisiana.
A collection of condos and single family homes make up this community of well kept residences. More than 20 years after the first owner moved in, the neighborhood has matured, with many homes boasting mature shade trees and some beautiful landscaping. Katrina did quite a bit of wind damage in the area, so many of the homes have newer roofs and updates that continue to keep the houses in demand.

west bank living: How Using an Out of Town Lender Can Slow Down the Loan Approval Process - 06/04/10 01:14 AM
Recently, I listed and sold a condo in New Orleans. Now, the entire condo buying and selling experience has changed from years past, with fewer lenders willing to step up and do the necessary work to get a complex approved by FHA. It used to be that by answering a few quick questions a lender could get what was called a “spot approval”. Those days are gone and while the rule changes may have been made for valid reasons (although I’m not quite sure what they are), they have served to make the entire process a little more cumbersome, especially for … (38 comments)
