west bank living: Jazzin' Up Algiers with a New Hot Spot! - 08/13/08 06:52 AM
Are you a jazz fan looking for a new dining spot on the West Bank of New Orleans?
Look no further than right here in Algiers and check out The Suite Jazz Cafe, a jazz and supper club offering dinner and Sunday brunches. I had the chance to drop in and visit with the owner last week and check it out at the end of the brunch. With a glass of the best sweet tea I've ever had right in front of me, Dr. Camacia Ross (an Algiers resident, she's also running for a position on the school board) allowed me … (16 comments)

west bank living: 4 Things You Should Expect From Your Listing Agent - 08/11/08 04:39 PM
Choosing the right agent to list and sell your New Orleans West Bank home has become more important than ever.  Inventory rates are at historic highs in some neighborhoods and choosing the person who is responsible for helping you move on to the next phase of your life should NOT be based on:
The fact that they charge the lowest commission The fact that they are your sister-in-law's cousin twice removed who just got their license and could use the business The fact that you've seen their picture in the newspaper and they just look like a such nice person Instead, … (43 comments)

west bank living: Got Time? - 08/11/08 10:04 AM
People who are moving because of a job change or transfer usually have a specific time frame for when they need to be in their new city. Jobs have a report to work date, kids may need to be enrolled in school and you'll need time to find a place to live in your new city or town.
Relocating is a big deal with a lot work that goes along with it, even for those who have done it over and over again. Unfortunately, it is not always possible to plan far enough ahead. Sometimes a dream job drops in your lap or … (6 comments)

west bank living: Art and Linen: A Night Out in New Orleans (LOCALISM FEATURED) - 08/07/08 11:51 AM
This past Saturday, just like the first Saturday of every August, was White Linen Night in the Arts District of New Orleans. I haven't seen such a crowd for a long time and although the weather was hot, hot, hot, it didn't appear to keep anyone from coming out, cruising through the art galleries and enjoying food and drinks all along Julia Street.

My husband and I are lucky enough to have friends who live in a great loft near Julia Street, so we parked by the Piazza d'Italia and headed up 3 flights of stairs to enjoy the … (43 comments)

west bank living: Garden Park: A Gretna LA Community - 08/03/08 04:30 PM
Garden Park is a well established and high demand neighborhood located inside the city limits of Gretna, Louisiana.  Winding, tree lined streets and a range of home ages make it a very pleasing place to call home.  The neighborhood is actually divided into 2 sections, Garden Park on the south side of the Expressway, and Old Garden Park on the north side.  Mature trees and some fabulous landscaping line the streets.  Conveniently located, it's a hop, skip and jump to get to the New Orleans Central Business District, NAS JRB New Orleans, NSA New Orleans or the Manhattan shopping corridor.

west bank living: Frames and Fun Fabulous Gifts on the West Bank - 08/02/08 08:48 AM
How could I have grown up in Algiers and never stepped foot into Frames Inc.? I don't know how this major oversight happened, but I made up for it today! My husband visited the store earlier this week and told me that I had to check out some of the beautiful fleur de lis gift items they have in stock since he knows I am all about using the fleur de lis to decorate everything and everywhere. Since we had a few minutes to spare this afternoon, we ran over to grab a colorful flag to hang in our garden room.
