active rain: On the Spot at Rain Camp Orlando - 08/24/10 08:17 AM
At Rain Camp, listening to Ben Kinney talk about SEO. Meanwhile, cell phones keep ringing all over the room. I happen to be sitting near Neal Bloom, (new partner-in-crime?) who decided to ask a question.  As he's asking his question, his cell phone rings. D'oh!
Way to go, Neal!  Yes, I had to post this. You all know I couldn't resist something so tempting  >=)   I think you should all go over to his blog and give him an online pat on the back. :-P

active rain: Have You Seen the New Look of Localism? - 07/22/10 11:06 PM
Have you seen the new Localism layout? I LOVE it! In my last blog post, which was a Localism post that primarily focused on the city of Port Orange, FL, I decided to add a link to my own Localism blog posts. So I clicked the "States" button as I usually do, and.... SURPRISE! Localism has a whole new look! And it's so professional!
Take a look for yourself. Click on the "States" button on the bar above. (If you have a black bar and didn't change your text to a lighter color, you can't see the buttons.)  Running down the … (8 comments)

active rain: Things to Do and Places to Visit Around the U.S. and British Columbia! (Part 2 in a series) - 06/01/10 06:07 PM
Last week I began highlighting some of the posts that have been added to the Things to Do/Places to Visit group that exemplified some of what the group is about, as well as giving us a good idea of some things we could do and... places we could visit! =)
I've been loving the posts with tons of links within the posts, plenty of details, loads of variety, and fantastic pictures too. It makes me want to plan a driving tour around our beautiful country, just using the group suggestions of, well... Things I Can Do, and Places I Can Visit! … (3 comments)

active rain: Running the Rat Race? Or Running the Long Race for Real Estate Success? - 04/18/10 03:06 PM
This is another one of Nice Gregor's photos. Since he's been slacking (already!), I'm back to using his photos =P  I've actually had this photo saved on my computer for a long time. You see, what you don't know about Nick is that he's a marathon runner.  His nickname on every forum he joins is "Nickrun".
I know he has several photos of his running exploits. I've seen them. I'm hoping he'll share some of them, and his stories eventually. But for now, I have to say, I was inspired by this photo from the first time I saw it. Thinking … (7 comments)

active rain: Fascinating Things to Do/Places to Visit on Active Rain-You Could Plan A Trip With These! - 11/20/09 07:49 PM
Planning a trip around the U.S.? Did you know you could actually plan your trip just by using the reccommendations by AR Bloggers who post to the Things to Do/Places to Visit group? Seriously!
It's been a long time since I wrote a post that highlighted a few blogs and bloggers that had recently been featured in the Things to Do/Places to Visit group here on Active Rain. (Of course, if I had another moderator it might get done more often... I'm just saying!...)
So... For those of you who are not familiar with the Things to Do/Places to Visit group, … (8 comments)

active rain: Blogging, Features, and High School: Are They Related? - 11/13/09 02:55 PM
Last week, Broker Bryant Tutas wrote a post that addressed the bloggers who complain about not being featured... and all the silly complaining that occurs. He also offered advice to Active Rain Newbies. You can follow the link above to read his post. But to briefly summarize, there are many people who think the only way to get a featured post is to be "popular" (lol). Oh my! If I'm not part of the in-crowd, I can't get a featured post! (WRONG!)
So I'm writing this post to further address this topic, and to share with you, how I commented on … (14 comments)

active rain: A Very Cool Cake! Photo Taken by Lisa Hill, Daytona Beach Native. Please Take Time to Read the Blog Too! - 07/12/09 04:55 PM
It's that time again... time for a REALTOR® to show another aspect of their personality. So here I am, to throw my hat into the ring on yet another Speechless Sunday. And as usual, I'm unable to be "speechless" =P  But as I share this week's photo with you, as usual I will draw the line at any type of description, or discussion regarding the photo itself. But I want to preclude my photo with a little statement about my personal thoughts about photos and any type of art.
Most of the photos we see here on Wordless Wednesday and Speechless … (15 comments)

active rain: Unethical? Inconsiderate? With Web 2.0 & Blogging, The REALTOR® Code of Ethics Needs to Change - 03/28/09 10:59 PM
This post is probably preaching to the choir for most of our Active Rain members, and for that I am glad. I believe that 99.9% of the members here on Active Rain are great bloggers and a good fit, as I recently blogged in my post about the pieces of the Active Rain puzzle. But I just found a comment on one of my blogs that is a perfect indication of someone who is a piece of a different puzzle. I'm writing this blog post as an example for Active Rain newbies, and/or for those who are new to the world … (149 comments)

active rain: 300,000+ Pieces of the Active Rain Puzzle - 03/13/09 02:57 PM
Fellow Rainers, this blog's for you. Yes, it's for you.
I know, I know. You're probably wondering how a post about my 300,000+ points could possibly be about you. But it is! Bear with me and let me paint a picture for you.
To reach 300,000 points, I've obviously written a lot of blog posts, and made a lot of comments. I've even won a couple of contests. But the snapshots of our history pages are what really tell the story of our time spent here. It could be viewed as pieces of a puzzle. To elaborate on this theory, … (43 comments)

active rain: Florida's Home Foreclosures - 10/15/08 07:07 PM
I was just commenting on a real estate blog post here on Active Rain, with the TV turned down pretty low. I tend to blog this way quite freqently. I don't really like to just sit and watch TV. Actually, I think I'm incapable of doing just one thing at a time. Anyway, I wasn't really paying attention to the TV until I heard a commercial that had just one statement that got my attention. It was about the real estate foreclosure market in Florida.
With the presidential election coming up in just a few weeks, there have been a lot … (11 comments)

active rain: Real Estate Takes A Moment of Mourning - 09/22/08 06:02 PM
I recently posted a blog about a house I sold last week, that was in the worst condition I had ever seen. I also mentioned in that post that the listing agent for that house pretty much acted like he didn't want to sell the house. It was the worst transaction I've ever had.
Well, a little while ago I was just reading a couple of recent real estate blog posts by Broker Bryant titled "Does that 50 Cents Have to Be on the HUD?" and "Increase Property Showings by Treatng Your Peers with Respect". In writing this post, I was … (16 comments)

active rain: Continuation of Blogging, Commenting, Link-Backs, Photos and SEO. A Beginner's Guide - 09/05/08 05:25 AM

A few days ago I wrote a blog post to explain the basics of technology and search engine placement, and how we help each other when we post blogs with links to each other in them. I also addressed the importance of photos, and gave a very basic explanation of SEO (Search Engine Optimization). The general idea is that we all need to help each other.
This post is to address the one thing I left out of the last post. It was in the title, but I didn't really address it in the post. The part I left out is … (3 comments)

active rain: Blogging, Commenting, Link-Backs, Photos and SEO. A Beginner's Guide - 09/01/08 05:26 AM

Yesterday, I wrote a post that featured bloggers from around the country, who had written extraordinary blog posts for the Things to Do/Places to Visit Group, here on Active Rain. (Thanks for the gold star) Today I wanted to take the opportunity to point out something that most of you probably didn't realize when you read and commented on that blog post, and explain how and why I did it.
With each person that was featured in that post, I inserted their name, their profession, their place of business, and the area they served. I then highlighted all that information … (15 comments)

active rain: Great Blogs From Around the Country. Things to Do/Places to Visit - 08/30/08 12:28 PM
I had other plans for today's blog, until I started reading the blogs in the Things to Do/Places to Visit Group, on Active Rain. I have to admit, I'm not always on top of things in the group, so thank you, everyone who continues to post great information about things to do in your areas, or places you recommend we visit (or move to). We now have over 1,000 posts in the group and I think in all this time (actually only 8 months), I've only had to remove one post that didn't follow the guidelines of the group.
As I … (28 comments)

active rain: You found my blog online. And now I have the opportunity to pay YOU for leads? - 07/18/08 07:07 PM

Well, the title pretty much says it all. Earlier this week, I posted to my blog, information about buying real estate in golf communities in Daytona Beach. I plan to post several more, about buying or selling real estate in golf communities in Port Orange, Ponce Inlet, and possibly New Smyrna Beach too. But that's all beside the point for this post.
The very next day after I posted the blog about the Daytona Beach golf comunities, I got a call from a lady who works with a company that targets real estate buyers who are specifically looking to buy … (22 comments)

active rain: Congratulations to Me. 200,000 points and counting! - 06/09/08 03:58 PM
This is a silly, lighthearted post. My comments today just pushed my points beyond 200,000. And my last post was my 400th. So here are my official stats...

BTW, I found this cool, freeware tool for screen captures like this. Follow the link to get yours. This is one of the most simplistic pieces of software I've ever seen, but it's not like I needed something fancy for a screen shot.

One thing I'd like to point out about my stats. I have way more comments than I do posts. It's a way of paying it forward. We should … (19 comments)

active rain: Blogging & Commenting Protocol. Know your Netiquette! - 05/20/08 05:05 AM
Lately I've read several blog posts from Active Rain bloggers who are receiving derogatory comments on their posts, and are seeing them on other posts as well. I knew this would eventually happen as the site continues to grow, but I was hoping it would be later, rather than sooner.
The scenario I'm about to share, is not one that I had planned on sharing. However, in light of what seems to be a rampant problem, I'm going to do my best to do it justice and not offend the parties involved... well, actually only one party is aware of this … (51 comments)

active rain: Do You Use All the Tools at Your Disposal? - 04/23/08 05:37 AM
Hello, all my fellow REALTORS, mortgage brokers, title companies, home stagers, and all bloggers who are looking for ways to make their blog posts more colorful, refreshing, interesting and/or professional! This post is going to be an open-ended, shared information blog.
There are so many
web sites, widgets, HTML flyers, video sites, blogs, photo hosting sites, photo editing sites and more... that it's next to impossible to keep track of them all. And we really don't need to track them all. We just have to decide which ones best meet our own needs and the needs of our clients. I'm going … (61 comments)

active rain: Blogging for Real Estate. Does it work? - 03/27/08 03:08 PM
Yes, this is another real estate blog... kinda. I see the question being tossed around a lot amongst other real estate bloggers, as to whether blogging actually works or not.
Yesterday, I wrote a quick post to this blog, about the 3 new real estate listings I had just taken. But I neglected to mention one thing. The lead that brought those listings came directly through my Active Rain real estate blog. A man who is trying to help his parents get their investment properties sold, after having a bad experience with another local REALTOR®, did an internet search and found my … (10 comments)
