I had breakfast at the Tastee Diner this morning. I had a classic diner breakfast - an endless cup of coffee, scrambled eggs, scrapple, toast with purple jelly, and a waitress that calls you "Hon." There are jukeboxes on each formica topped table with songs like "My Way" by Frank Sinatra and "Stand by My Man" by Patsy Cline. It is exactly what you expect a diner to be and that is very comforting. Sometimes you just want two scrambled eggs rather than avocado toast - and that's when you go to the Tastee Diner. I had to return a book to the library today and when I stopped in to the Bethesda's Connie Morella Library, I was surprised to see some new additions in the hallway leading into the library. There were dragons on this Saturday morning at the Bethesda Library ! Dragons are not actually a surprise in a library - lots of children's books feature dragons such as My Father's Dragon or A Dragon on the Roof. I want to give a salute to my favorite restaurant in Bethesda - Mon Ami Gabi, which I admit is part of a small national chain, but they do a great job of serving delicious food in a charming atmosphere. I haven't been to Paris for a while, and I miss the little bistros and restaurants that you find on every corner serving spectacular food, and Mon Ami Gabi does a great job of recreating that feeling in Bethesda, MD, on Woodmont Avenue.
