relocating buyers: DC is Still A Southern Town - Check Out Barbecue Battle this Weekend - 06/21/13 10:58 PM
I generally think of myself as a Washington native - after all I have lived here since before elementary school, but occasionally my Southern roots come out.  I am a second generation Army brat with grandparents from Birmingham AL and Lynchburg, VA.  I spent every summer in the mountains of North Carolina as a child and went to Duke for college. I love North Carolina barbecue and am bewildered by the Texas approach to the same meats! In my opinion, once you taste the perfection of North Carolina barbecue, is anything else necessary?
John Kennedy once said that Washington is a … (1 comments)

relocating buyers: It is High School- First You Have to Date - Then You Can Buy! - 06/21/13 01:10 PM

Remember when you were in high school? You dated - maybe you fell heavily in like - you might even have thought that you were "in love" but most of you knew that you were not really in love.  The likelihood was pretty strong that you would not marry that boy (or girl) that made your heart beat faster at the sound of hello or the touch of a hand.
You knew that that stage of your life - the high school dating stage - is devoted to trying on different people - and to finding out who you really were. … (36 comments)

relocating buyers: Sometimes You Just Have to Get Out of Your Computer and Look at Houses - 06/19/13 10:59 PM
It is great to look at properties on line - think of all the time we save by looking at those pictures of listings in the computers! But.... Do those pictures really capture the listing?  How many times do you see miserable pictures and pass up the listing because of bad pictures or no pictures.  As a Realtor, I admit to getting a little snippy - and thinking things like -
Well if the pictures are this bad, then the agent is probably an idiot and hard to work with.
My life is busy enough without having to deal with a … (30 comments)

relocating buyers: Salute to Relocating Families - 07/31/09 07:20 AM
I said good bye to my tenants of three years today, who lived in a rental house we own down the street from our own home.  They are a lovely family of a father, a mother, four children, a Chihuahua with an attitude and a very relaxed cat. The father has been here in the United States as the deputy ambassador and trade minister from Uruguay. Before coming to the United States they were in Geneva where he was at the GATT, and now they are moving to Bogata, Colombia, where he will be the Uruguayan Ambassador to Colombia.

relocating buyers: Finally, They Closed This Morning! - 06/23/09 04:04 PM
There is always one deal that makes you crazy! Mine settled today; I will get paid, and then I can send the clients Christmas cards forever and ever!
This couple found me on the internet because I included the words relocation specialist in my metatags, and it worked. I remember that phone call from their home in London to my car in Raleigh NC as I sat outside a hockey rink waiting for my daughter's game to start. How cool was that - getting a call from London from a new client that I had never met before.  They moved to DC from London in … (11 comments)
