Face it! Not every condo building in Bethesda loves pets. Honestly, I don't understand their reasoning since Poirot, my standard poodle, is much loved in our family. Good news! As soon as Thanksgiving is over, Bethesda is getting ready for the holiday season. Winter Wonderland takes place on Saturday December 5 from 1 to 4 pm this year. The annual celebration features holiday performances, a live ice-sculpting presentation and a visit from Santa Claus in Veterans Park, located at the corner of Norfolk and Woodmont Avenues, just north of Old Georgetown Road. When you are through celebrating, you can warm up at the Starbuck’s across the street or grab a late lunch at the Tastee Diner!

TripAdvisor either was generous to DC last week or really insulted us when it ranked D.C. as the sixth-best city in the country for pizza. TripAdvisor ranked us behind New York, Chicago, New Haven, San Francisco and ORLANDO (???). I understand New York, Chicago and New Haven (although I have trouble with clams on my pizza.) The North Beach section of San Francisco has great Italian food too so it probably has great pizza, but Orlando throws me for a loop! Sorry to all my AR friends in Florida. I was in Bethesda yesterday running errands and shivering in the cold, like everyone else here in early January! What a cold way to start the new year! I certainly was looking forward to the pot of lentil soup I had warming on the stove and waiting for my return! Serendipitously, my car was parked in front of Spring Mill Bread Company at 4961 Elm Street in Bethesda, MD. Walking down Elm Street in Bethesda, past the new Soul Cycle location and the Dunkin' Donuts, one can't help but stop in front of the windows of Fancy Cakes by Leslie, a bright spot in Bethesda since 2009.
