Earlier this week I went to a small town in northern Wyoming to do an energy audit on the town hall, fire department and library. The current town hall was basically the old school building that became the city hall after the new school was built. One classroom was now the city council chambers. The big long chalkboards and cloakrooms were still there. I started school in the early 1960's so this was like a trip down memory lane. I hope these two photos tickle your memory.

In several recent energy audits of older elementary schools in Utah we found out why we froze to death as a child sitting in those classrooms. No wonder we wore jackets while sitting at our desks.
Even before we started the huge blower door fans to depressurize the building we noticed how cold the entire windowed walls were. These schools are retrofitting and installing new triple pane energy efficient window systems. The results are outstanding - not only is the draftiness gone, but the windows are blocking out the chilling outside temperature.
