century 21 hardeeteam realty: Olympic National Forest, Hoh Rain Forest and Twilight - 11/04/09 08:50 AM
Olympic National Forest, Hoh Rain Forest and Twilight.  On my trip to the Northwest in September and October of this 2009, I was on the highway in Washington state.  On the way to Olympic National Park I saw this sign in Forks, Washington.  I thought it was unusual.

I'm not a Twilight fan, but apparently it was filmed here and people are crazy about the series.

This is in the Hoh Rain Forest, which is in Olympic National Forest in Washington.  This is a temperate rain forest.  Notice the huge amounts of moss hanging from the tree?  It … (2 comments)

century 21 hardeeteam realty: The Jimi Hendrix Memorial -- Oct 09 - 11/04/09 08:16 AM

This is the Jimi Hendrix memorial in Renton Washington (near Seattle).  I was able to pull this up in my GPS by looking for attractions when I was in the Seattle area.  Jimi Hendrix's grave came up -- I was kind of suprised, but pleased.  To get the exact address, look it up in the Seattle Edition of Fodor's.  The marble and granite were beautiful.

Close up of the interior of the monument.  There is a place in the top of the centerpiece for flowers.  There is also a sundial in the grassy area surrounding the memorial.

century 21 hardeeteam realty: The Bake Shoppe & Cafe makes the Top 10 List - 11/04/09 06:52 AM

The Bake Shoppe & Cafe located at 12724 Grant Road in Houston, Texas is one of my favorite places to eat.  In the October issue of the Star-Express paper (see website at StarExpressNews.com for the article) , the Bake Shoppe & Cafe is listed as one of the 10 Best Local Restaurants for 2009.  The teaser on the front page proclaims "Who was named one of the best local hot spots?"  I was intrigued to see who made the top ten, so while I was at the Bake Shoppe & Cafe eating my spinach mushroom quiche, salad, roll and cookie, I … (3 comments)

century 21 hardeeteam realty: Putt-Putt at Lake Charles Amusement Park -- Oct 09 - 10/31/09 11:19 AM

Putt-Putt at Lake Charles Amusement Park is lots of fun.  Putt-putt is one of my favorite pastimes, and this day we took a road trip which included two putt-putts and a garden.  The Lake Charles Amusement Park has 2 18 hole courses.  There are a couple of holes where if you get a hole-in-one you can get coupons for restaurants.  Theholes are both decorated very well with big animals, like an elephant, gorilla, lion, rhinocerous and giraffe, not to mention the pelican on the roof of the gazebo.

This shows several holes.  It was a gorgeous day and not too hot either.

century 21 hardeeteam realty: Tomball College Fall Fest 2009 - 10/29/09 10:50 AM

Tomball College Fall Fest 2009 was rocking the house today.  They combined the normal Fall Fest activities with Halloween this year.  The decorations and balloons were everywhere in the commons area of Tomball College and there was even a Disc Jockey playing rock/rap music for part of the day.  Various school clubs and activities were represented.

Close up of Trevor the Timberwolf who is the mascot for Tomball College.  He was getting "wrapped" by students.

Here is the DJ and he even did the record scratch thing.  There were lots of kids dancing before I took this picture, … (4 comments)

century 21 hardeeteam realty: Halloween Pictures from Houston & Tomball, Texas - 10/25/09 08:01 AM

Cute halloween decoration in the commons of Tomball College.  They actually have several inflatable decorations around the commons area of the college near the cafeteria.

This house is in Houston and I was impressed by all the decorations.  I don't think I have ever seen purple spider webs before.  There are some tombstones towards the house as well.  These folks really did a good job.

Every year the local church sells pumpkins around this time of year.  This year they also had a display where people can come take a family photo.
Have a great halloween celebration everybody!!

century 21 hardeeteam realty: Seattle Museum of History and Industry -- Oct 09 - 10/22/09 02:56 AM

The Seattle Museum of History and Industry is a great place to spend a few hours.  This unique clock tower is outside of the museum right near the entrance.

They had lots of representations of the olden days in Seattle.  Look at the detail in the blacksmith shop.

Here is the local dress shop, with lace curtains, an embrodiered chair and a marble table.  They also have gloves and hats from the period.

Next door to the Dress shop is the Barber Shop.

Here is the cute little stationary and printing shop, including a printing press.  To the right … (3 comments)

century 21 hardeeteam realty: Come on Baby, Let's do the Twist! - 10/20/09 05:05 AM

My sister Ann threw a 50's party for her husbands birthday.  Here she is with her two daughters in their matching poodle skirt outfits.  Notice my sister's horn rimmed glasses?  And there's Fonzie in the background.

And Elvis stopped by for a few photos.  He is quite photogenic.  The winner of the adult Hula Hoop contest got to go home with Elvis.

There were several contests, bubble gum blowing, a twist contest, and a hula hoop contest.  Needless to say the children were picking up the hula hoops all night long, whether it was during the contest or not and … (2 comments)

century 21 hardeeteam realty: Boeing Flight Museum -- October 2009 - 10/18/09 10:32 AM

This wonderful museum is located near Seattle Washington, and I highly recommend it, just make sure and allow enough time.  I spent 5 hours there and had to rush through the last exhibit hall.  Model planes in the Boeing Flight Museum.  They also have lots of information, models, postcards etc. about the Wright brothers.

This beauty is an SST.  It was smaller than I thought it would be in person.  Entrance is included in the museum admission price.

This section of the Flight Museum was really fixed up wonderfully.  They had all sorts of interactive things like two flight … (1 comments)

century 21 hardeeteam realty: The Hiram M. Chittenden Locks & Garden -- Oct 09 - 10/10/09 11:53 AM

Okay, so someday I want to go to the Panama Canal and got through the locks, but I'm not sure that is going to happen, so when I saw the locks listed in the Seattle guidebook I kept bugging my husband until he took me to these locks.  You had to pay to park, but it seems like you have to do that everywhere in Seattle.  Anyway, to get to the locks you have to walk through the beautiful garden.  There were bleeding hearts and other varieties of plants that really don't grow in Houston because of the warm climate.

century 21 hardeeteam realty: The Grand Coulee Dam -- Sept 09 - 10/10/09 10:00 AM

On my last vacation in September of 2009 to Glacier National Park, we went to the Grand Coulee Dam, and in the visitors center was this blow up of a three cent stamp.  All the dams in the Washington/Montana area generate hydroelectric power, but what I didn't know is the tour guide said that the power is sent north and south to locations because the magnetic pull of the earth causes major loss of electricity if you send it east and west.  I'd never heard that before.

As you can see, they had all sorts of great memorabilia there are … (1 comments)

century 21 hardeeteam realty: Trains and more Trains -- Glacier National Park - 10/09/09 07:35 AM

My husband loves trains.  This trip to Glacier National Park we stayed at a Hotel that had train tracks in the back, so we knew when trains were passing.  Then we would head out and "chase" the trains.  This Amtrak train had left the Izaak Walton Hotel about 30 minutes earlier.  I'm sure the views from the train are spectacular of the all the scenery around there.

These two Burlington Northern Sante Fe engines are passing under a pedestrian walkway, I think it is the one from the Izaak Walton Hotel.

Sorry, this one is a little blurry.  … (9 comments)

century 21 hardeeteam realty: Love Trains? Try the Izaak Walton Hotel - 10/09/09 07:07 AM

If you love trains, you need to visit this beauty at the Izaak Walton Hotel near Glacier National Park in Montana.  It is being converted into a small apartment with sleeping quarters and living room.  The renovation wasn't complete before I left the area, but it should be really wonderful.  The hotel also has 4 cabooses you can rent and sleep in as well.  They also have a regular hotel which is modeled after a train station.

This picture is kind of blurry, but you can get the gist of the construction.  The rooms are very quiant, and the … (2 comments)

century 21 hardeeteam realty: Interesting Water Features at Glacier National Park -- Sept 09 - 10/09/09 05:52 AM

These are some of the beautiful rapids I saw in Glacier National Park and Olympic National Park in September of this year.  It was chilly up there (at least compared to Texas where I'm from).

This was a very unique waterfall that caught my eye.  It was near the top of Hurricane Ridge in Glacier National Park.  It looks manmade or at least part of it looks like it was assisted by humans.

This beautiful spot is Bowman Lake.  It was very tranquil and quiet.  There were warning signs all over the hiking trails about watching for Black … (3 comments)

century 21 hardeeteam realty: Its a dam good thing -- Cabinet Gorge Hydroelectric Power Plant - 10/07/09 10:00 AM

This is Cabinet Gorge Hydroelectric Facility.  It is near Spokane Washington.  My husband and I always like to tour dams, but you can't go inside this one or walk on top, so we had to take pictures from a view point.  The massive turbine below is about 12' across.  This was one of our first stops on our last vacation in September of 2009.  Our trip was actually focused on visiting multiple national parks, starting with Glacier National Park which is in Montana, but its is actually easier to fly into Washington and drive to Montana than to fly … (2 comments)

century 21 hardeeteam realty: What Do You Know About the Locks on the Columbia River? - 09/05/09 07:59 AM
I'm lookin for information about the locks on the Columbia River.  Are they like the ones on the Panama Canal?  I've always wanted to go to the Panama Canal and ride a boat through the locks, but my husband isn't too keen on it.  We are going away for two weeks starting tonight to Washington and Montana and I would love it if someone told me if you can ride a boat down the Columbia River and go through the locks?  This might be only opportunity.  Thanks for your help.

century 21 hardeeteam realty: Has Anyone Been to Seattle on Vacation? - 09/05/09 06:29 AM
Has anyone been to Seattle on Vacation?  I'm looking for some ideas of what to do when I'm there during my two week vacation that starts tomorrow.  First my husband and I are going to Montana to Glacier National Park for three days.  Then we are planning to go back to Washington and see Mount St. Helens and Mount Rainier.  We love national parks.  Any Suggestions?

A few days ago I was blogging and commenting on a lady's blog, and then subscribed to her blogs.   Later that day I got an unusual comment from her.  She said I was her 100th subscriber and I got a special mention in her blog.  I am very new to Active Rain and this was only my third subscription, so I feel very honored.  Her link is  http://activerain.com/blogsview/1216990/100-blog-subscribers-.  I hope that I referenced it right.  Thanks Chris Ann Cleland.

century 21 hardeeteam realty: Is it Adam Lambert or Sean the Hair Stylist? - 09/03/09 06:02 AM

My friend says Sean the hair dresser at Beyond Fringe looks like a famous person (Adam Lambert I think).  He really takes his time and does a great job on hair styles.
Here is his salon.  It is near Conroe and The Woodlands.  I drove all the way from Tomball to get my hair styled by him after being referred by a friend.  I'm the second referral Connie Pierce has sent to see Sean, and both people referred have loved the results.  This salon is in Montgomery Texas off Hwy 105, right off the lake.  Tell Sean that Liz … (3 comments)

century 21 hardeeteam realty: The Time Traveler's Wife -- A Review - 08/29/09 09:20 AM
Hi all you movie buffs.  This movie is wonderful.  If you saw the twilight zone that I think this was based on, this movie is so much better.  It would be a great date movie, and would be touching to those together a few days, weeks, or even decades.  One thing I can say is that it is never boring, and the main characters are very interesting.  I really enjoyed it, and I hope you like it too.
