Great Smoky Mountains National Park -- Part 1, From Your Houston Real Estate Professional

It looks like the Smokies are low on water.  It is definitely smoky looking in this picture.

Are you ready for your boat ride?

This cute white church is on the Cades Cove Loop.  The park department put together a brochure you can purhcase for $1 that tells the history of Cades Cove and its residents.

This inviting little lake is on the Builtmore Estate, owned by the Vanderbuilts.  The tour is not to be missed.  As a realtor I loved the architecture of … (4 comments)

century 21: Trip to Great Smoky Mountains National Park -- August 2011 - 08/31/11 11:38 AM
Great Smoky Mountains National Park -- August 2011

My summer vacation was to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.  I took some interesting pictures on the way over to the park.

This bridge spanned the Mississippi.

This is a picture of kudzu.   Kudzu was introduced to the south and has taken over.  In the 1930's the government paid farmers to plant Kudzu.  Now it grows over trees and even power lines.

Lovely Mississippi River setting with a paddle wheeler.

 White barn near Shiloh.

Shiloh military museum.  This cannon is on display with some other great … (1 comments)

Credit Score Estimator -- From Your Houston Real Estate Professional
What Is Your Credit Score?  This is a simple way to get an estimate.  Here is a link to a program that asks about 8 questions and can give you an estimate of your current credit score.    Your credit score is very important and can make a difference in how much you pay for interest rates and loan charges.  Sometimes it can even make the difference being able to qualify for a loan for a home or not.   The credit score calculator is only about 8 questions and should takes less than two minutes.   Credit … (3 comments)

Happy Birthday United States National Park Service -- from your Houston Real Estate Professional.
August 25th, 1916 the United States National Park Service was created.  Yellowstone was the worlds first national park, and today more than 388 additional sites have become part of the National Park System.  I personally enjoy travelling to these National Parks and getting my Passport to Your National Parks book stamped with the date and park information.

This picture of the Grand Canyon National Park was taken on December 29th, 2009.  It was snowing so hard that Christmas that the roads were almost impassable for two days.
Hope you … (3 comments)

Celebrating Another Home Sold In Tomball -- Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen!  I just closed on a house in Tomball today that was one of the toughest sales I have had in a long time.  Everytime we thought it was ready to close, something else would come up.  Today all the things finally fell into place and the deal closed.  I felt like treating myself for the hard work I put into selling this Tomball house.

I decided to treat myself to some stuffed shrimp at Pappadeaux.  Here is the sign out front from one of the best seafood establishments in the world … (5 comments)

century 21: The Great Train Robbery: This Day In History,1963 - 08/08/11 05:51 AM
The Great Train Robbery: August 8th,1963.

There was a movie made about this robbery.

"The Great Train Robbery" took place in England.  A gang of 15 train robbers stole 2.6 million pounds in bank notes.

If you watch the movie you can see what the producers and directors think took place to plan and execute the robbery.  One of the robbers that was captured was Charlie Wilson.  I found an interesting tidbit on Wikipedia about him:
On 12 August 1964, Charlie Wilson escaped from Winson Green Prison in Birmingham in under 3 minutes, with the escape being unprecedented … (2 comments)

Happy 100th Birthday Lucille Ball!!
For those of you over 40 years old, you probably know who Lucille Ball is, as the star of "I Love Lucy".  The "I Love Lucy" show ran so long that many people associate Lucille Ball only with that show and not her early movie rolls.  She was a true cinema beauty in those early movie rolls.  Sometimes you can catch one of those early movies with Lucy in them on Turner Classic Movies (TCM).  Her acting in those movies is really wonderful.
CNN has a great article about her, along with pictures, click here to view it.  … (4 comments)

Ke$ha and LMFAO Concert August 2, 2011-- Or Was It Just An Awesome Party!!!

Here is the approach to the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavillion.  I love to park on the side of the woodlands that has the lake.  It is always so soothing to see the lovely river.

LMFAO was the second group to come on the stage.  I can't remember the first group's name.

This is the park that is outside of the pavillion.  You could just sit in the park and hear the music if you wanted.

Another Great Reason To Live In Mandolin Gardens -- New Park with Water Features

Mandolin Gardens is located off of Grant Road in between Perry and Jones Road.

This greenbelt is now a super water park that is enjoyable to hike on, sit and watch sunsets on or picnic on.

The designers really did a great job with the landscaping.  I think these are purple verbenas (or a close cousin).

I happen to think the HUGE gazing ball is a neat addition.  It is on a little island in the middle of the newer section.  You have … (1 comments)

Chappell Hill Sausage -- Great Food and Great Gift Ideas

Chappell Hill is off Highway 290 about an hour West of Houston going towards Austin.  (This is also a great spot for bluebonnets and wildflowers if it is a wet spring).

Aside from the wonderful food at Chappell Hill Sausage, there are also a lot of great gift ideas.  Above are some of the Chappell Hill Preserves.  I wonder how the Red Tomato Preserves would taste.

Here is the meat case with the cryopacks of meats.  The sausage is shipped to local grocery stores in the Houston area.  I … (4 comments)

Fun At The Farm OR Congratulations, Its A New Horse!!!

Meet the newest horse on my daughters ranch, his name is Flame.  He only arrived last Tuesday.

He seems perfectly content living here already.

This is Bonnet.  She was one of the first horses my Grand Daughter ever got.

She looks great with her mane braided, doesn't she?  The cool thing about this horse is that she has one brown eye and one blue one.

This is J Lo.  She was just visiting (do horses have sleepovers???).

Fun at the Friday Night Astros Baseball Game -- Baseball and Fireworks!  Astros Game 7/15/11.

The seat I had was in the "Table" section.  They served appetizers (popcorn and chips), dinner (a choice of 10 entrees) and desert (ice cream).  The view was actually pretty good from my seat.

Here is a banner showing the evolution of the Astros.  For years they had the white uniforms with the yellow, orange and blue stripes on the shoulders.  And the games used to be played in the Astrodome.  Now they play at Minute Maid Park. The new stadium does have a retractable … (0 comments)
